MountainKat | 31593 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 5, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Lea | 1631 comments Hi everybody
Checking in:-) I live right outside Copenhagen Denmark so my time zone is CET. Making my 6 hours ahead of east coast US and 9 hours for the west coast
I am awful with team names, but are open to all suggestions and will just go with what the majority likes😀
Looking forward to play

Lea | 1631 comments Should we start to look for an author we can all agree on reading a book by?
And a series we all will like to read.

For series I would suggest the in death series by J.D. Robb it would give a lot of books to choose from:-)

One the reasons I join these challenges is to read books outside what I would go for normally. I am very open to read anything that is suggested

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments Lea,
I agree that JD Robb is an enormous series that we could use. I am probably one of the few who haven't read it. I read the first one and it was OK but didn't grab me like it did many others. But I would be willing to use it since there would be no problem finding a volume to read.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Hi all! Lea and I are on a team in another challenge (the Pass the Parcel challenge) and I'm hoping to be able to double up some of these books with the weekly one over there.

Linda C and I have known each other for awhile now...Linda, was it back during Shelfari days? I know it's been a long time for sure. Linda and I have very similar TBRs. I'm not sure our ratings of the books we mutually have read are the same but I feel they are fairly close.

I'm happy to meet Shandrea!

Linda, I think you may have put Lea's information under my name. You'll want to switch that out. Here is my info....

time zone: CST
Hometown (born in, raised in, currently live in): I'm from and live in a small city in Iowa that would never have a book set in. From past experience MKat opens it up to our birth State (if we want to read a book from the US) especially if our hometowns are pretty obscure.
What year you joined RRRC: 2015 looks like both Linda and I joined the same year. (Keep in mind #58 says joined RRRC not GoodReads)
Month and Year of birth: January 1973

I've made a few lists and suggestions for some of the tasks...I'll post them next.

message 16: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Task 1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.

This a hard one just based on all four of our To Be Read Shelves. I'm glad Lea is open to finding new to her books because I'm the opposite. I have thousands of books already I want to read so I prefer to read those rather than getting new ones.

I found a bunch of authors in 3 out of 4 of our shelves but only 1 on all 4....
Nalini Singh is on all of our TBR

Authors on 3 out of our 4 shelves are...(I've put a * by my preferences Just as an FYI)

Carrie Ann Ryan
Rainbow Rowell
Toni Aleo
Ann Aguirre
Jennifer L Armentrout
Kristin Hannah
Whitney G
Kristen Callihan *
Julie James *
Elle Kennedy *
Christina Lauren *
Melinda Leigh *
Nora Roberts *
Kylie Scott

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Task #9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.

This one was harder because some people tend to binge a series they find and like having none left to read but Lea's suggestion of JD Robb would work out great for me personally. Linda it took me 2 tries to read Naked In Death before I got through it...it just didn't grab me. I continued with the series though and am now completely hooked. Don't give up on Naked.

message 18: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Task #29. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.

My suggestions are...
Law Enforcement Professional
Lawyer
Dr./Medical Professional
Sports Professional

message 19: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Task #33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.

I'm super fine with any of these....
Paranormal/Urban Fantasy
Romantic Suspense
Historical Romances
Western Romances

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Task #49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.

I was thinking about nothing older than 2010. Maybe 2015?

May or September

I thought May would bring in a bunch of Summer published books and September would be the beginning of the holiday books.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments Christina, great posts

I did have Lea's info under you. Now corrected.

Thanks for catching joining RRRC instead of GR - I totally misread that. I think you are the one who told me about RRRC while we were still part of Shelfari and I hadn't really gotten into challenges on GR yet. What a difference 5 years makes!

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments 50. Read 6 books set in the same location, teams decide the location.

Maybe England?

51. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.

Suggestions

Nora Roberts
Nalini Singh
Linda Howard
Sandra Brown
Ilona Andrews

52. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.

Red
Black
White
Blue

54. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.

I prefer Mountains but will go with the majority

55. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country.

England would be easy but maybe Australia would be fun

56. As a team, pick a list with over 100 romance books on it, each member reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.

here are some suggestions

Best Adult Urban Fantasy, Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance

Best Ever Contemporary Romance Books

Best Ever Historical Romance Novels

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments Comments on Christina's 5 Task messages.

Task 1 - same author - Since we all have Nalini Singh on our shelves I'd be willing to go for her. Others I have several choices for are Julie James and Nora Roberts

Task 9 - same series - I'd be willing to give JD Robb/In Death series another try or if we are all reading the same Nalini Singh series we could consider reading a second book by her to further our series progress.

Task 29 - same professional - I would opt for Law Enforcement Professional or Dr./Medical Professional as my top choices.

Task 33 - same sub-genre - any of those 4 work for me

Task 49 - anything works for me; I have tons of books

message 24: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Some of the list really needs planning so we aren't scrambling for a few days to get everyone's input when one of those tasks happen to get called. I am happy to help out a bit while I'm on vacation but definitely won't have the extra time once I'm back to work. I appreciate you taking the reigns, Linda.

Last round of the Amazing Race Challenge the first task called was #1. Not sure if this is always the case or not.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments Comments on Christina's 2nd set of tasks

Task 50 - England is good because there are lots of English historicals

Task 51 - I have several to read by Ilona Andrews, I would love to read

Task 52 - can go with any of Christina's suggestions or any color really

Task 54 - also prefer mountains over beach

Task 55 - could do England here also, Australia OK, have quite a few set in France. Would also be willing to check my shelves for other countries, if someone has a strong preference

Task 56 - those all look like good lists, I'd go to any of those

message 27: by Lea (new)

Lea | 1631 comments Thanks, Christina, for all the work you have done in nailing down options for us. I have tried to answer below 😊
The last info on me: I joined the RRRC in 2019
Date of birth Oct 1978.
I have grown up in Esbjerg Denmark and 1 year in Medford Oregon.
Task:
#Task 29 - same profession
I would prefer Athlete or law enforcement, but do not have a strong opinion
Task #33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.
Of the suggested genres I would prefer
Romantic Suspense
Historical Romances
I would like to avoid Paranormal/Urban Fantasy

#49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.
I agree with a not far back, so May or September 2015 will be fine with me😊

#50. Read 6 books set in the same location, teams decide the location.
I think England is a really good choice since there is a ton of options in both classic, historical, WWII and contemporary.

#51. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.
I would prefer Nora Roberts, Linda Howard or Sandra Brown. Since I am not huge fan of PNR but as I have said before I like trying new things so I go with the majority

#52. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.
I good with all Christina’s suggestions

#54. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.
I am good with both

#55. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country.
I think England is the easiest as I wrote above it gives a lot of options in subgenres. But Australia could a really fun challenge.

#56. As a team, pick a list with over 100 romance books on it, each member reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
I would prefer one of 2 last of Christina’s suggestions

Best Ever Contemporary Romance Books
Best Ever Historical Romance Novels

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Thanks Lea for the input. I hope Shandrea gets here. After looking at her profile she was probably born during the 1990s which, no offense meant, is a better romance decade than 1940s or even our own 1970s. Although, stepping out of the romance genre one could probably find a few gems in either decade.

I'm also glad, Lea, you included your preference to stay away from paranormal stuff as much as possible. It's my go to and I'd choose it 75% of the time. With this challenge there will be plenty of opportunities for me to read those without making paranormal one of the "everyone reads the same".

I also have some thoughts on some of the tasks in the last half of the list but for busy and stopped where I was. I'll post those in the next few days for discussion.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments We originally were talking about Nalini Singh for our first task. She writes a lot of paranormal, but has some earlier contemporaries. Do you want to do her, Lea? OR we could go with Nora Roberts who has stuff in both categories.

What do people think about a Team Name?

I definitely think the 1990 would be a nicer option.... I think the 70’s has a lot good things but my first thought would not be books 🤣

For other challenges I have read PNR and will also do it for this one. Then I just need recommendations, as on my own I am totally blank on this genre. I like my paranormal to still have some realistic elements in it:-) but I love good recommendations so that reading gets a little broader

I will try to go through the hole task list while watching Tour de France with my husband. You can do a lot of other stuff while watching cycling 🚵‍♀️

message 35: by Lea (new)

Lea | 1631 comments I tried to go through the list and find remaining task where we need to agree on things beforehand, I might have missed some :-)
#75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
I think that both T, H and R maybe A or I would give a lots of options

#76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item. .
Suggestions
Car
Airplane /aircraft
Cake
Hat

#79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
Suggestions
Enemies to lovers
Second chance romance

#80. Read 4 books initially published in different decades. 82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
Anybody have a preference, I could go for a classic thereby staying away from the last 2 decades

#82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
If we do not use the in death series for other tasks it might be a good option here due to its many books
Another option could be virgin river series

#84. Pick a category from the current RRRC Monthly Challenge and read 6 books for that category

88. Read 6 books with a boat, plane, car or motorcycle on the cover, teams decide which
I would prefer car or plane but are okay with them all

#90. Each member reads a book published in sequential months, i.e. June, July, August and September 2019. Teams decide which months. No pass for this task.
I have no preference for months

#91. Add up the years of the teammates' births and each teammate reads a book with that minimum number of pages. For example, teammates were born in 75, 83, 87 and 94 - each teammate reads a book at least 339 pages long. No pass for this task
47+73+78+x=?

#92. Read over 1500 pages in books set in the future or the past - teams decide
Would prefer past but okay with both

#94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years
I would something pretty recent
Eg 2016,17,18 and 19

#95. As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
My suggestions would horse or dog

#96. Read a minimum of 1200 pages with the sun or the moon on the cover, teams decide which.
I okay with both

#99. Each teammate lists 5 favorite books. Select books from 2 different teammates and read them
I have chosen 5 books that stayed with me long after I read. These a favorites from different stages in my life
Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood
Still Alice
Little Women
The Pillars of the Earth
The Brothers Lionheart (the book from my childhood that made the greatest impression)

Shandrea Freeman | 888 comments Alright, I have had a chance to read all the comments and suggestions. I am at work so I apologize for my absence.

So, I live in southern Idaho, Castleford, Idaho, close to Twin Falls. I was born in 1991, which had me turning 29 on the 30th this month.
I am generally reading contemporary romance right now but I am open to reading other things.

As for the tasks:
Task 1- I am ok with Nalini Singh, she has some books that I was looking at reading

Task 29 - okay with all professions listed. Romance makes it easy

Task 33- as for genres, I would prefer something like “romantic suspense”

Task 49- okay with what was suggested

Task 50- unsure

Task 52- okay with suggestions

Task 54 - either is okay

Task 56 - would probably have better options with “best ever contemporary romance”

Task 9- unsure

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments #99. Each teammate lists 5 favorite books. Select books from 2 different teammates and read them

I have so many favorites. I tried to pick ones that represent some of my favorite authors in a variety of genres, but all romance:

1. Blue Smoke - Nora Roberts
2. Perfect Partners - Jayne Ann Krentz
3. Mrs. Drew Plays Her Hand - Carla Kelly
4. Finders Keepers - Linnea Sinclair
5. On the Edge - Ilona Andrews

My all time favorite book is 84, Charing Cross Road - Helene Hanff - however, it is less than 100 pages and doesn't qualify

message 38: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments Some tasks agreed or almost agreed on. Everyone OK with these or do we need more discussion on any?

Task 1 - same author - Nalini Singh

Task 9 - same series - JD Robb/In Death series

Task 29 - same professional - Law Enforcement Professional

Task 33 - same sub-genre - Romantic Suspense

Task 50 - same location - England

Task 51 - a different book by the same author - Nora Roberts

Task 54 - beach or mountains - mountains

Task 55 - same country outside the US - England or Australia if has to be different

Task 56 - 100 romance books list - Best Ever Contemporary Romance Books

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments Opinions on Lea's latest task list

#75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
I think that both T, H and R maybe A or I would give a lots of options
I can go with any letter

#76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item. .
Suggestions
Car
Airplane /aircraft
Cake
Hat
I like aircraft - can do contemporary or historical or sci-fi; also maybe food or drink to broaden category from cake

#79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
Suggestions
Enemies to lovers
Second chance romance
either of those works for me

#80. Read 4 books initially published in different decades.
Anybody have a preference, I could go for a classic thereby staying away from the last 2 decades
what if we each find a pre-2000 book we want to read and see if we can cover 4 different decades

#82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
If we do not use the in death series for other tasks it might be a good option here due to its many books
Another option could be virgin river series
I like Virgin River - I have those but haven't read any yet

#84. Pick a category from the current RRRC Monthly Challenge and read 6 books for that category
One of the choices is - Fall Foliage Week:
🍂 Read a book with a character who enjoys nature, or spends time around trees or in a forest. You can also read a book with yellow, orange, or red on its cover; a book with leaves or trees on its cover; or a book set in autumn.

How about this? Trees on the cover could be easy to work with

88. Read 6 books with a boat, plane, car or motorcycle on the cover, teams decide which
I would prefer car or plane but are okay with them all
Car, if we do aircraft for the other category

#90. Each member reads a book published in sequential months, i.e. June, July, August and September 2019. Teams decide which months. No pass for this task.
I have no preference for months
I don't have a preference for the months, but 2019 or before since I don't have a wide selection of 2020 books

#91. Add up the years of the teammates' births and each teammate reads a book with that minimum number of pages. For example, teammates were born in 75, 83, 87 and 94 - each teammate reads a book at least 339 pages long. No pass for this task
47+73+78+91=289 - minimum pages

#92. Read over 1500 pages in books set in the future or the past - teams decide
Would prefer past but okay with both
I could do past

#94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years
I would like something pretty recent
Eg 2016,17,18 and 19
this is fine with me

#95. As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
My suggestions would horse or dog
dog over horse, but cat might be good also

#96. Read a minimum of 1200 pages with the sun or the moon on the cover, teams decide which.
I okay with both
looked for this not too long ago and found that moon was easier to find than sun; lots of bright sunlight but often sun is not shown

I have so many favorites too! Here are some of my 5 star faves....

Saving Grace by Julie Garwood (historical romance)
Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (contemporary romance)
Risk It All by Katie Ruggle (Rom/Suspense)
I Have Lost My Way by Gayle Forman (Contemporary Fiction...not sure how else to describe)
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover (Contemporary Romance)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1697 comments Opinions on Lea's latest task list

#75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
C added....I am not sure which one would be best so I'm going to say R

#76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item. .
Suggestions
Car
Airplane /aircraft
Cake
Hat

C added....If many of us like Rom/Susp maybe a gun? Badge? Man Nipple (almost joking about this one LOL)

#79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
Suggestions
Enemies to lovers
Second chance romance

C added....I like both of those but Amnesia is my absolute favorite

#80. Read 4 books initially published in different decades.
Anybody have a preference, I could go for a classic thereby staying away from the last 2 decades
what if we each find a pre-2000 book we want to read and see if we can cover 4 different decades

C added....I really don't care for earlier than 90s but would read something in the 80s if I had to.

#82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
If we do not use the in death series for other tasks it might be a good option here due to its many books
Another option could be virgin river series
I like Virgin River - I have those but haven't read any yet
C added.....I also am half way into the Virgin River series

C added...If this one is called in September there is this one...
Read the Month 10th Anniversary English Edition
September
Read a book with an author's name (first or last) beginning with the letter S

88. Read 6 books with a boat, plane, car or motorcycle on the cover, teams decide which
I would prefer car or plane but are okay with them all
Car, if we do aircraft for the other category

C added...Car is ok with me too

#90. Each member reads a book published in sequential months, i.e. June, July, August and September 2019. Teams decide which months. No pass for this task.
I have no preference for months
I don't have a preference for the months, but 2019 or before since I don't have a wide selection of 2020 books

C added...2019 works for me...whoever posts first if that one is called can start the month chain.

C added....past is best for me as well (we'll have to wait for more info if this one is called though because I bet MKat will have some parameters on how far in the past the book needs to be)

#94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years
I would like something pretty recent
Eg 2016,17,18 and 19
this is fine with me

#95. As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
My suggestions would horse or dog
dog over horse, but cat might be good also
C added...I vote Dog as I have so many possibilities.

#96. Read a minimum of 1200 pages with the sun or the moon on the cover, teams decide which.
I okay with both
looked for this not too long ago and found that moon was easier to find than sun; lots of bright sunlight but often sun is not shown
.
C added...good point on the sun so I'm voting for Moon

Task 1 for all teams!

0. As a team select your favorite month of 2019 (because 2020 basically SUCKS!) and each player reads a book initially published in that month. No pass for this task.

For this task we are using the initial publication date. If one is listed at the top of the editions page, use that. Otherwise I will be looking for the first published date of an English language edition. Remember to use the first English language Kindle edition for your page count and ensure that your completion posts contain all the required information listed in message #3 of your team thread.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments We didn't talk about this exactly but #49 had month and year and we were talking about May or September.

How about picking Sept because it is now Sept and would be connection to game kick-off?

Also we need to get our name picked. What do you think about Amazing Task Masters?

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments In case it wasn't clear it has to have been first published in Sept of 2019.
It also has to be at least 150 pages and your completion post must follow the format listed in msg #3 above with a short review. It does not have to be romance but it has to be fiction.
