I agree - let’s go ahead and see if we can get a replacement player.

CB (cb33) | 404 comments Not sure if there is maybe an issue with the spreadsheet for the second round, but I just added a couple of Spell it Out options, at 4 letters each, and after adding them to the shopfront, it says that each meal has one ingredient. I checked the shopfront in round one, and sure enough, it indicates the number of ingredients equal to the number of letters used.

So either I entered something incorrectly for all three postings, or something’s off with this spreadsheet in the second round.

Namita (-namita) | 699 comments CB, I think they switch things up in around 2. I’m not sure, will have to review the rules.

message 154: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 209 comments I don't see any changes in the rules and it looks like you entered everything correctly to me, so I'll ask a mod to check it.

That's good than.

The 3 books I've entered, I listened to on Audio. I have borrowed ebooks from the library so I can list the food items. It might be a little later.

Jenn | 209 comments We got a score of 17 with the restaurant critic!

Round 2 Additions

17-20 You're the hottest place in town this week and everyone wants to try your meals. Now is the time to think about what your niche market is looking for to maintain your popularity

Meals with the word "ube", "watermelon", or "legume" in the text or title, or used as a spell-it-out will attract more adults for round 2

That is great! Nice work everyone.

I’ll admit I just had to google “ube” - I have honestly never heard of it before 😆

LOL ...yeah, I didn't either...LOL

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments Congrats everyone!

Yeah, I too had to google ube.

message 161: by CB (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments I noticed something else - row K under the Meals and Points tab is not tabulating the number of meals for Round 2 like it did for Round 1, which would help us keep track of how many type of each meal we have

message 162: by CB (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments I just asked about it in the Q&A

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments On the spread sheet do you always check the box for graphic novels?

I read Pumpkinheads which isn't the most dense of things but I wanted to be safe.

Jenn | 209 comments Vianvamp wrote: "On the spread sheet do you always check the box for graphic novels?

There is a special rule with Frozen meals:

No graphic novels, cookbooks, poetry or childrens books unless audio version is more than 5 hours or wordcount can be verified with arbookfind as more than 40,000 words

So unless Pumpkinheads has more than 40,000 words according to arbookfind or the audio version is more than 5 hours, you do need to check the box. And since most graphic novels won't meet either of those requirements, it's pretty safe to assume you'll always need to check the box for them.

message 166: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments Thanks Jenn.

I entered it as Fresh, a sandwich, so I shouldn't need to change anything.

I have a couple of graphic novels that have been hanging out on my TBR forever so I'll keep that link close.

message 167: by Kim (new)

Kim | 68 comments Way to go team!! I’ll try to get through these books in a timelier fashion this round! So mad I missed out on that last one.

message 168: by CB (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments For some reason when I go to enter my books on the Kitchen Meals tab, it does not automatically populate if it’s scavenger or spell out, and the meal category that can be used. I tried a couple cells down the page and was still having this issue, for 2 different books I was entering.

Is there another issue with the spreadsheet (Or is it user error)? Don’t know why this is always happening to me 😂

You do seem to keep finding all the errors lol! I tried putting a book in line 63 and it worked fine so not sure what happened with your lines. It did let me change it manually though so I put scavenger on them for you.

Awesome, Vianvamp! So because you read a BOM and participated in a BOM discussion, we can switch out one customer, correct?

Kim | 68 comments I think I might do one of the November BOTM. Has anyone else looked at them?

message 173: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments I've been wanting to read Cemetery Boys so I might read that. I gotta get through some of my tbr backlog first.

message 174: by Kim (new)

Kim | 68 comments I feel like anytime I read a book from my TBR, I’ve already added 10 more to it. Never enough time...*sigh*

Namita (-namita) | 699 comments Hi Team,

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to bow out of this challenge. I had fun but personal and work are being a hindrance right now. I won't be able to read or contribute anything.

message 180: by Kim (new)

Kim | 68 comments I’m glad I’m not the only one who has fine tuned hearing for it haha

message 181: by Kim (new)

Kim | 68 comments also i finished a big book but had to use spell it out because there was like 3 food items and it felt wasted on all the water haha. the next one i will finish is blood and honey.

it has vinegar in the text so if anyone is planning on a scavenger fish & chips, I can add my vinegar result for it for extra points!

I haven't used anything from my book Sliced Up because I was looking for 'vinegar'. Sliced Up has all 4 ingredients needed for fish and chips.

message 183: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 209 comments Of course after I say that I find 'vinegar' in the book I just finished. Should I just add it to a fish and chips meal that's already made?

message 184: by Kim (new)

Kim | 68 comments Jenn, I’ll hold on to my vinegar. That way yours will be all set. I won’t be able to finish blood and honey until Sunday at the earliest.

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments I'm totally unhelpful in all of this, none of the books I've been reading have good food options.

Jenn | 209 comments Vianvamp wrote: "I'm totally unhelpful in all of this, none of the books I've been reading have good food options."

Spell-it-out's are still helpful. I'm reading a manga series that has quite a few vowels so if you need to use one just say so :)

message 188: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments Thanks! So far I've been able to do ok, but I might take you up on that offer for my next two books.

Dracula had more food in it than I remembered so I was able to use that as a scavenger.

message 189: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments I almost forgot... Happy Halloween!

Kim | 68 comments I'll be doing the BOM for Farenheit so should i post the link to my comments on here? or just the number for my DQ posts?

message 193: by CB (last edited Nov 01, 2020 07:34AM) (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments Spell it outs have been a fun challenge - I’m trying to get as many of the special words as possible so when I have “u” I’m aiming for “ube” or “legume”. I was able to spell out “watermelon” one time but it used so many letters. “Kale” has been a good easy one.

I’ve found “mushroom” a couple of times in the scavenger and one time “pumpkin”, but nothing else of the special words, they’re pretty tough to find.

message 194: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments I thought we were only looking for/spelling the three words ( legume, ube, watermelon)?

message 195: by CB (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments From the Rules, this was posted:

Score Round 2 Additions

17-20 You're the hottest place in town this week and everyone wants to try your meals. Now is the time to think about what your niche market is looking for to maintain your popularity
Meals with the word "ube", "watermelon", or "legume" in the text or title, or used as a spell-it-out will attract more adults for round 2

13-16 You're now on the list of places to try for young singles and DINKS. Keep up the great work, but perhaps get a bit more creative or reduce your waste for round 2 to increase popularity.
Meals with the word "mushroom", "bamboo", or "tumeric" in the text or title, or used as a spell-it-out will attract more adults for round 2

6-12 Now known as "cheap and cheerful" you attract families which mean messy children. Try some new, more popular, dishes to attract your target group for round 2.
Meals with the word "kale", "avocado", or "truffle" in the text or title, or used as a spell-it-out will attract more adults for round 2

0-5 Your chef quit. Try a new theme for round 2. Pensioners will be attracted to your restaurant, but you will need to work to get other groups in the door
Meals with the word "tuna", "soy", or "pumpkin" in the text or title, or used as a spell-it-out will attract more adults for round 2

message 196: by CB (last edited Nov 01, 2020 03:03PM) (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments So the top ones will help get us a higher restaurant rating, but it looks like adding any of these will help attract adults, to serve more meals and get additional points. But watermelon, ube, and legume are the best it seems.

Jenn | 209 comments CB wrote: "So the top ones will help get us a higher restaurant rating, but it looks like adding any of these will help attract adults, to serve more meals and get additional points. But watermelon, ube, and ..."

I thought it was because we scored a 17 that we're in the 17-20 one? And because we scored that high is why we have harder/rarer words like ube instead of tuna. The teams that scored lower get a little extra help to catch up with the easier words.

message 198: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 209 comments Ok yeah, according to the challenge page:

Swinbourne Score
All teams have received a score which is available on the Status Sheet.

In round 2, enter the word you find (if doing a scavenger hunt) related to your Swinbourne Score in the justification on your kitchen tab ; and then when creating the meal tick the highlighted box (column G)

Our Swinbourne Score was 17 so our words are ube, watermelon, and legume. Right? Or am I reading it wrong?

message 199: by CB (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments Ok, I think I misunderstood how that worked - thanks for clarifying, and sorry for any confusion.

message 200: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments Jenn, thats what I was thinking.

I thought that you had three words depending on your score.
