The book I just read had a bunch of food items. I added it as a sandwich, but I can change some of those food items if I need to.

Or should I pose it in the questions thread?"

So, the Mods said to use my discretion and check with my team. Pine Nuts were specifically mentioned while describing the pasta dish so I'm using it. Plus they are an ingredient in Pesto.

Thanks for putting this together, Jenn! I think this will be very helpful for those instances where a book does not have a complete meal, but we find some food items.

Just my initial thoughts.

I was thinking more of using the strikethrough thing to cross it off. That way it'll be easier to see how many times a book has been used.

A strike through sounds good to me! Just was thinking something so that we don’t double count words.

It can only be one category. Either scavenger or spell it out. Was there any food items in the book?

It..."
Yes and i had a plan for them but was looking for ways to get better points. haha

More points is always better lol

Well I believe we actually choose what meals are served. The mods only choose which customers we get. It's up to us to link them together so it doesn't matter if it's just an ingredient. At least that's I took it when I looked through the game. But yeah, you should be able to spell out the name of a sandwich as long as it meets the word requirements. Sandwiches have a minimum of 4 and maximum of 10.

Yes it can, as long as you follow the page count:
up to 2 scavenger words / spell-it out letters per book >50 pages and <=160 pages
up to 4 scavenger words/ spell-it out letters per book >161 and <=300 pages
up to 8 scavenger words/ spell-it out letters per book >301 pages and <=500 pages
up to 12 scavenger words / spell-it-out letters per book >501 pages
So if your book is 200 pages, it gets 4 scavenger words or 4 spell-it out letters.
For example, let's say I'm reading a 200 page book called "Everyone's Okay". It has characters in it named George, Gerald, and Susie. I could then spell out "eggs"
E - Everyone's Okay
G - George
G - Gerald
S - Susie
Eggs is an ingredient in Quiche. The requirements for Quiche is 160+ pages and a minimum of 4 words. So my book and spell-it-out meets both requirements. I can add Quiche as a meal to the menu.
Alternatively, say my 200 page book "Everyone's Okay" only as a character named George it in. Another person's 200 page book has characters "Gerald" and "Susie" in it. Then we could put those 2 books together to spell out "eggs" and complete a quiche meal.
I also feel like scavenger hunt is easier, especially since we keep reading books with so many food items in them, but spell-it-out is an option if we have books that don't mention food.

You're welcome :)
For character names, you can use their first name, last name, or nickname. So if you have a character named John Smith, who goes by "Moose" as a nickname, you can use "J", "S", or "M".

I'll send her a message and see if she's still wanting to participate. If we don't hear from her, I'll ask about finding another person to join us.

I'm going to see about binge reading some more manga and try to make us some more sandwiches. Going with that, if everyone could see about focusing more on frozen meals (pasta, quiche, and curries) with their books, that would be helpful. We only have 8 frozen meals. While we do have some juices and desserts for teenagers, if we end up having a lot of teenagers we might not be able to serve all of them.

I was figuring to read another 500+ book this weekend, so that should add some more dessert/drink options. I could add a third one if needed.

If need be I too have a bunch of unread manga & graphic novels just waiting for me.
Doesn't this round last until the 17th?

Namita, did the book have a lot of characters? Cause if need be we could also just use it for a spell-it-out. And if that is the case, go ahead and add the characters' names to the food list.
Vianvamp, we do have until the 17th. Unfortunately manga and graphic novels can only be used for Fresh meals, and we have more of those than Frozen meals. That's why I was thinking we should try to make more Frozen meals with 160+ page books. Just to balance it out.

Yes, the book had lot of characters. I'll add the names to the spreadsheet.

Jenn, I have shared my email with you over messages. feel free to add me to the google sheet whenever you have some time.
I am participating in this kind of challenge for the first time, so to be honest I am not very clear on all the rules (gosh there are so many!). I did go through all the relevant materials posted on other threads but I am still not very confident if I understood everything clearly. It would be really helpful if someone can briefly explain what I need to do next.

Welcome to the team :)
I've added your email to the google sheets so you should be able to start editing them. As for the rules, I feel like it'll probably come easier to you once you start working with the spreadsheet. So start a book and add it to the tab "books read". The green columns will fill themselves in automatically and tell you how you can use that book. Further back on this thread I explained how to make meals using the spell-it-out method so you can check that out too here

I completed 2 books a couple of days ago and have added them in the Books Read tab. I also created a few meals in the Round 1 tab. Can someone take a look and see if I am doing it right?

Your tea 63 and salad 64 is wrong.
Tea has a minimum of 2 so just using "tea" won't work. Also Tea has a special rule for scavenger hunt:
◈ tea(tea, milk, sugar, water, cream) Note for scavenger hunt only: Must contain at least tea and water. Other items are optional.
Tea has a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 items.
Same with Salad. It's minimum is 5, so it needs at least 5 items to make it. Even though the word text you used says "salad", it's technically not a full meal as that counts as only 1 item. 4 more items need to be added to it.
You have the right idea with your curry 65 with leaving an extra space for the fifth item. That's where the food items spreadsheet comes in. You can take an item from someone else's book and use it to finish your meal. Just make sure you strikethrough the item you take and change the book's "words can be used" line. That way no-one else uses it too.
And your coffee 60, fish and chips 61, coffee 62, and sandwich 66 are perfect :)
Once you've fixed up your meals, move on to the "shop front created meals 1" tab. This is where the meals are "displayed" for the customers. Match up the corresponding numbers (like your sandwich 66 goes to line 66), and be as creative as you want with the meal description. I'm not very creative so I've been using recipe names I found on the internet lol

Yes! We're actually in 2nd place so far. So happy to be teamed up with all you amazing people

Sure can... there is lots of mention of water. I add a few more.

Really? This is so cool!! Great job everyone.

I'll ask a mod to look at it. I think it's probably because the "meal catergory" column ends there.

I'm not really sure how much we can deviate from the listed items so go ahead and post it in the questions thread.
