Quinn Maybrook just wants to make it until graduation. She might not make it to morning.

Quinn and her father moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs to find a fresh start. But ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half. On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can.

Kettle Springs is caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress. It’s a fight that looks like it will destroy the town. Until Frendo, the Baypen mascot, a creepy clown in a pork-pie hat, goes homicidal and decides that the only way for Kettle Springs to grow back is to cull the rotten crop of kids who live there now.

First quarter - (view spoiler)[The adults in this town seem to react so badly to the presence of the teens. First the teacher exploded over some average teenage sass and then the sheriff dissuaded the group from entering the diner. I wonder why? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I love her Dad. He just seems like such a good guy and it is refreshing to see a teen with a great parental figure in YA fiction.

The rest of the adults in this town are very suspicious, though. I have no clue what is going on with them but there is clearly something going on to make them dislike the teens so much. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[Okay, that was an intense quarter but also oddly not suspenseful at all. There were so many deaths, whilst the teens were at the party, but I didn't feel any tension as the murders came in such quick succession. I'm not sure this type of horror is really for me but I'm glad to be giving it a go. It is still definitely fun and action-packed but isn't giving me any chills or thrills. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[I've said this on all of my updates, but this was so FUN. That might be an odd choice of word for a book featuring multiple murders. I can't say I found a life-long favourite or a story that will stay with me forever, but it made for a super quick workday to be flying through these action-packed scenes, via audio. Slasher books are never going to be my go to, but it made for a great change of pace to consume one. I'll stick to supernatural horror to deliver the goose bumps and this genre for some belief-suspending entertainment. I also quite like the politics differences between the generations to add some depth to the plot. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 7 (view spoiler)[Ok so we have our first killing....the mayor. Poor guy, seemed more level headed than the crazed people he left in the hall. They really have it out for the teens. I can see why but who knows what they plan to do. Can’t believe after Coles sister died they even still film and do pranks anymore at all. Quinn should probably distance herself from them obviously but I guess that’s not going to happen lol So far so good, can’t wait to see where the story goes, I imagine things are about to get a lot more bloody. Finished (view spoiler)[I just knew Rust was alive, didn’t see him and Cole hooking up at all. That came out of left field. Also the had a heart attack when Quinn’s dad donned the costume, I knew she was going to end up shooting him, thank goodness the gun was empty.
Still can’t believe Matt and Ronnie. But I bet they were just jealous being second best behind and Cole and Janet. Doubt they would have made it out after this, bet the sheriff was going to kill them anyways. They were good leverage to help keep cole safe and cornered. Just hope Cole is smart now he has money and hires security because his dad won’t give up. Also umm not sure how safe I feel with Quinn’s dad running for mayor. I mean the last guy had good intentions too and look what happened to him 😲 Really good gory slasher read, totally movie material! (hide spoiler)]

It certainly was fun and I've surprisingly thought about it a lot since finishing. It's nice to change the reading pace sometimes and this was definitely more of a joyride than a sedate drive through the countryside haha.
