Book with time travel I read in middle school in the 1970s

I read a book in middle school, somewhere around 1975, about a tall girl who was visiting a relative in New England. She had a very poor self-image. She either starting having dreams about an ancestor or went back in time and saw a relative's life. Does anyone have any ideas about what this book might be?
