Shomeret | 1493 comments I didn't have quite as many reads in August as I did in July, but I blogged almost all of them setting a record in number of blog posts in one month on my blog!

1)The Day Lincoln Lost by Charles Rosenberg (alternate history) Source: Publisher via Net Galley for blog tour Started: 8/1 Finished: 8/2

Why Read: I had read Rosenberg's previous alternate history The Trial and Execution of the Traitor George Washington. This time the publisher asked me to participate in the blog tour and I agreed because I'm interested in alternate history.

Comments: This is not as much of a departure from history as Rosenberg's previous book. There was a wonderful female Quaker abolitionist, and other great female characters. Rating A. See my review at https://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/2...

2)Song for a Lost Kingdom: The Heart Beats in Time by Steve Moretti (science fantasy) Source: Author for beta read. Started: 8/4 Finished: 8/10

Why Read: This is the last book in a trilogy. I love the premise involving a 21st century cellist in 18th century Scotland and her relationship with a very special cello. But this book also involves an 18th century woman who has a relationship with the same cello time traveling to the 21st century.

Comments: I've called these books Outlander with music, but they're a great deal more than that. I gave it a B+. See my review at https://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/2...

3)Crier's War by Nina Varela (YA LGBT fantasy) 435 pages. Source: Library Started: 8/10 Finished: 8/13

Why Read: I've been wanting to read this book about an artificial princess and her relationship with a human woman.

Comments: Crier believes that her feelings of love are a flaw because she was told they were. I thought that was a terrible lie. I'm hoping Crier realizes this in the sequel. Rating A-

To be continued...

Ann (annrumsey) | 16982 comments Shomeret: Nice list, two A rated in the first three books and lots of blog posts sounds great. I've been meaning to start the Song for a Lost Kingdom trilogy ever since you posted about book one. The short (prequel) is free on Kindle Unlimited so I've added it to my "pile" :)
Is your library open for in person browsing? We are still curb-side and that only after the early voting hiatus for three week in early August. After the resumption I've only picked up twice. I miss being able to go inside.

Shomeret | 1493 comments I hope you like Song For A Lost Kingdom, Ann.

Our library has only curbside pick up of holds at a few designated branches. The branch I need to use is out of the way from home. It's closer to work, but it's closed when I get off work. So I need to make a special trip to pick up my holds. The branch that I had normally used is walking distance from work, but it doesn't have curbside pick up.
