Jackie | 2143 comments Thanks for all your hard work, Louise!

message 166: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Now we get to assign meals. And whoever did the BOMs, we need to decide what customers we're trading and PM the mods. we have time though :)

message 167: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I think Louise and Jackie did the BOMs, so we have 2 trades. It looks like we have made a few more meals that what they requested, so that's good...that we aren't short. So fingers crossed we have the right mix.

message 168: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I can start playing with meals tomorrow afternoon Louise, if you need a break. Let me know.

message 169: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments So we have 160 customers and 166 meals.

Children - 27
Teenagers - 40
Adults - 52
Pensioners - 41

We only have 33 dishes that we can serve to Teenagers we definitely need to trade 2 pesky teens for adults. That would give us 38 teens 5 will go hungry. We have plenty fish and chips and sandwiches for the other customers . At a quick glance if we keep the alcohol until next round our only fresh wastage will be 3 salads.

message 170: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Stacie can you pm the Mods with our trades.

Louise | 3331 comments Tips For Round 2
• The most time consuming part was creating meals from long lists of ingredients. (Note to self don’t leave it til last minute to update and eat first 😂)

• To make it easier things like soups and stews can’t be used in the challenge. So no need to track these although if it is specified as something like tomato soup or beef stew the beef and tomato are ingredients that can be tracked.

• Page counts impact what dish the book can be used in.
50 - 160pgs - fresh dishes (fish/chips; sandwiches; salad; tea; coffee
161 -500pgs - fresh or frozen dishes (Fresh & curry; quiche;pasta)
501pgs and more - Any dish (fresh; frozen & desserts; alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks)
When tracking near these page counts in mind a chocolate milkshake although tasty can’t be used if the book is less than 500 pages or less. Although a chocolate based sandwich is a firm favorite.

• We are limited on the number of ingredients we can use from a book depending on length.
up to 2 >50 pages and <=160 pages
up to 4 >161 and <=300 pages
up to 8 >301 pages and <=500 pages
up to 12 >501 pages
An ingredient can be used as many times as it appears in the book or on the cover.

• Fish & chips with vinegar remains our priority but we need to make more frozen meals for round 2.

• Our book limit for Round 2 is 90

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Done

message 173: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments I’ve fed everyone that we’re able with our trades. 6 teens have gone hungry and we have 4 fresh items wasted.
And we are currently in 2nd place. 🎉🎉

Jackie | 2143 comments I'm starting Truly Devious this week.

message 178: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments Wow, Louise! You're amazing. I don't think I could keep all of this straight! Thanks for taking care of our restaurant.

message 179: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments To make sure I understand what you need, generic food terms for the food categories such as soup, pasta, curry, sandwich, quiche we shouldn't track, just the ingredients that could make them. But generic terms for drinks are okay?

message 180: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Generic is good for things like pasta, curry, salad. Things like soup, stews and casseroles aren’t able to be combined into our main base dishes.

Our main base dishes are:
Sandwich
Pasta
Salad
Quiche
Curry

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Our Swimbourne scoring:

You're now on the list of places to try for young singles and DINKS. Keep up the great work, but perhaps get a bit more creative or reduce your waste for round 2 to increase popularity.
Meals with the word "mushroom", "bamboo", or "tumeric" in the text or title, or used as a spell-it-out will attract more adults for round 2

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Round 1 Complete - what to expect for round 2

Thanks cooks, chefs and kitchen hands - you have survived the opening of your restaurant and round 1 customers. Phew!

Frozen Meals from round 1 not consumed
Can be used in round 2. You should copy and paste these from your Shop Front Round 1 to the Shop Front Round 2 tab (Note: column D on the round 2 tab won't populate - don't worry we will fix it up)

Desserts, Drinks and Cocktails from round 1 not consumed
Can be used in round 2 or round 3. You should copy and paste those you want to use in round 2 from your Shop Front Round 1 to the Shop Front Round 2 tab (Note: column D on the round 2 tab won't populate - don't worry we will fix it up)

Fresh Food from round 1 not consumed
Fresh food not used will be rotten unless you received tips from adults to preserve.
The amount of tips you have from round 1 is directly attributable to your Swinbourne Score.

Score Tips
17-20 20% of adults tipped

13-16 10% of adults tipped

6-12 5% of adults tipped

0-5 0 adults tipped

Adults were pretty crumby tippers in round 1, but now your doors are open and you have a Swinbourne Score and media buzz, expect much higher tip rates in round 2!

If you have Fresh food from round 1 you are preserving by using a tip, copy and paste those you want to use in round 2 from your Shop Front Round 1 to the Shop Front Round 2 tab (Note: column D on the round 2 tab won't populate - don't worry we will fix it up)

Swinbourne Score
All teams have received a score which is available on the Status Sheet.

In round 2, enter the word you find (if doing a scavenger hunt) related to your Swinbourne Score in the justification on your kitchen tab ; and then when creating the meal tick the highlighted box (column G)

Books read cap
For round 2, it is 90 books per team

Customers round 2
The exact number of customers won't be known until they arrive, but be sure it will increase for round 2 as your restaurants gain in popularity!!

Favourite customer meals for round 1 - just for fun and team kudos
The Bees Buzz
Pizza in a Bowl
Forbidden Fruit Salad
Possum Curry, done right with sweet potatoes
The Makes You Pucker Tart
Christmas Mystery Curry
Boozy Broccoli Spaghetti with Crunchy Almond Slivers
Salt tea

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Louise, let me know if you need help with the meals this round.

message 193: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Will do. Working on meals tomorrow. Month end on work was a little bit hectic

Ghost in the Stacks ...so why do I feel so stupid...? I am really missing something. I check the list on this link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... for words, however you all seem to have ingredients that are not on the list. SO I definitely know I am missing something or I overlooked something at this point.

message 195: by Stacie (last edited Nov 02, 2020 08:23AM) (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I mark any food items I see. Anything beverage related other than tea, coffee and water I don't mark unless the book is over 500 pages because it won't count. Same with desserts. Then Louise just takes whatever food words we find and makes them in to dishes. I think the list you linked to is just examples. Also, key items we need right now are turmeric, bamboo and mushrooms and then always vinegar if you come across any of those. Turmeric, bamboo and mushrooms will get us more adult customers if we use them in dishes for round 2 and vinegar allows us to get an additional point for fish and chips.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I found turmeric in a book, I'm shocked. I didn't think I'd see it.
