At this point, most Americans react with, "Oh look, people in the sand box, killing each other again."

message 3202: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I was unaware of this. However, we must acknowledge the US more or less protected the Kurds and gave them the safe haven to engage in terrorism in Turkey. Turkey has responded. Hitting the water supplies may well be a war crime.

Is the juice worth the squeeze? Does the tax revenue equal the dispossession of farmers from their land?

The juice is the squeeze. Private farmers are cash poor, but their lifestyle is not inherently reliant upon government largesse. That makes them dangerous. Kulaks anybody?

message 3205: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments The problem is, if the farmers have to sell land to pay the tax, we end up with the country littered with life-style blocks, and that is bad for overall food production at reasonable cost.

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Australia's ABC receives 1.8 billion Australian tax payer dollars per year. In return, they dutifully spew government propaganda.

ABC CEO Kim Williams was recently asked about how Joe Rogan draws such a big market share and what the ABC can learn from his success. This is his response.
https://youtu.be/ZgDlVqnEJIs?si=CMfRd...

I love that he can't speak about the matter because he doesn't watch Rogan. But Joe Rogan is the MAGA Devil!

message 3209: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly | 5042 comments Funny, Rogan was not a Trump guy to start. He was for Bernie.

message 3210: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments I suspect that after eight years of Obama the world of politically left wing people believed their promised land was nigh at hand. They could literally taste the government milk and socialist honey. Then Trump's election shattered their shared delusion. All they know is resentment and hatred.

No vicky noland, no anyone else - genuine people’s wish. Very similar to 2013 in Ukraine.
Think how come they choose “evil” West over rotten “russian world”, they know all too well

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Replacement Theory is a racist conspiracy theory...

From the UK:
Muhammad overtakes Noah as most popular boy's name
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly...

message 3220: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I saw that. Don't know if it accounts for the multiple spellings of Muhammed or not, but I'm pretty sure that Western Europe will become predominantly Muslim in the not too distant future (as I predicted in a book I published in 2020).

Is this part of a Great Replacement conspiracy theory or a naturally occurring phenomenon? I've no idea. But if you ask the question you're a 'racist' and if you demonstrate against it you're jailed.

Meanwhile, schools are encouraging British students to become gay or transition (sorry, J, the US gave us this nonsense). Sardonic lol.

Welcome to UK Plc, which of course tells you the truth about everything else, like covid, climate, Ukraine and Syria.

I'll probably stay put but if I was just starting out in life, or had a young family, I'd be off. I am a patriot for what we were, not what we are. And unfortunately, things are probably too far gone to rectify. Same with rest of W Eur.

Have you seen what they did to Jaguar?

message 3222: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes. Apparently, it was the work of a New York advertising agency. There's been widespread mockery/ criticism of it here and the gay advertising guy has said we're all full of vile hate (or something similar).

Here's another for you...the security services are advertising for unpaid interns. The only stipulation is that you can't be white British to apply.

There are countless other examples of this wokery in every other form of life. They've captured every institution. Perhaps an Islamic regime will help save us from ourselves lol? They certainly cook nice food.

You are v lucky. Because Saint Donald had the springboard of being in charge of one of the two major parties, he had a chance to win. If he'd been an indy, it wouldn't have happened. Remember, Nigel is practically building Reform from scratch.

I think 2nd Amendment might've saved you from worst of Biden regime too. (I've changed my mind on that and now support it.) There's also the timing aspect of things...

Imagine that from 2020-4, you had been governed by a 'progressive' Republican party and that everyone was so disgusted with them that they voted for their main rivals and so got Harris.

Lol. That is where we are at right now. Four (or more( years of it to go. What will be left by then? It's like watching a slow motion car crash.

You will struggle to find any Brit who feels optimistic about the country's future. Most people I know (other than wokes and CEO types) are in absolute despair.

The transgender Teletubbies on Mars ad was pretty bad. But have you seen their new prototype Jag?
https://media.jaguar.com/news/2024/12...

Seriously? Customers wanted a rakish touring car. They could have followed suit from Porsche and Ferrari by shoehorning a hybrid drive and battery pack into a XKE, XKR, or XK120 inspired body and collected the checks. Instead they covered a Chrysler Crossfire in Bondo and asked Mommy to put it on the fridge.

If so, Jaguar and Tata have completely misread the room. In the USA, Jag is competing for market share against Aston Martin, Audi, and Lexus. That's a legend and two monsters of the automotive industry who will not cede the ground Jag is giving them.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments A while back, we had a Canadian guy - I think his name was Matthew - who was all for Trudeau's policy of allowing illegal immigrants into the country. I suggested that we fly the people coming over our southern border up to them, if it was such a good idea. As I recall, he also excoriated the States for our treatment of indigenous people while ignoring Canada's treatment of their indigenous people.
