SOLVED. YA book with vague native American mythology themes. A high school girl moves to a new town in the desert and attends a new high school where she meets two guys one good and one bad. Both seem to know things about her. Bird follows her. [s]

I read this book between 2011-2014 and from what I remember the cover had a girl on it with birds and a desert sunset background but I'm not positive. I think the girl moves in with her grandmother, possibly in New Mexico near the desert, at the beginning of the story and her grandmother is big about tradition/mythology. There is one scene where she follows the "bad" boy to a cave/tunnel in the desert and she sees him talking to a demonic creature. I also remember a bird, possibly a raven, always popping up and following her however it wasn't a normal bird, there was more behind its presence in her life. The two boys in the story know each other pretty well and are working against each other i think, each trying to sway the MC to trust them. I remember the MC being important and special in some way that could change the outcome of something big; this revolved around something from mythology. I think it was the first book in a series but I'm not positive and i cant remember if i finished the book or not so all of this probably happens within the first half of the story. Also this is a bit random but there might have been something about a coyote.
