PattyMacDotComma The Kopp Sisters are as entertaining as ever in Amy Stewart's third in this historical mystery series, Miss Kopp's Midnight Confessions. New Jersey just before America's entry into World War One makes a great setting.

RJ, you're game to tackle the second one after being let down by the first. Or maybe you just really really want to think about going back to Hawaii, eh?

PattyMacDotComma Lara Hawthorne has produced the loveliest Christmas book I've seen in a long time. The Twelve Days of Christmas is beautiful and has a lot of interesting details kids (and grown-ups) will love. Great gift!

message 277: by Pinja (new)

Pinja I'm currently reading 13 Secrets. I've read it before and it was one of my fave series when I was younger and I still liked the first 2 books in the series upon my re-read but I'm taking forever with this one. It's not bad, I just think I'm not in the mood for it. I actually have been reading other stuff while reading this one so that I won't get into a reading slump. I made a little plan to read 2 chapters a day and if I stick to that I think I'll be done by next tuesday. I also have The Bat on my currently reading shelf but it's been forever since I last picked it up and I even had to return it to the library so idk when I'll finish that up, 'cause it's not something I'm super excited for and I'm not reading it for any reading challenges so I don't "have" to read it. It's not bad or anything, I only got 10% trough it but I just have other stuff I'm more interested in, so we shall see when I get around to finishing that one. Thankfully it doesn't seem to be too popular at my local library so I'll probs get to pick it up whenever I want to :D

That's an illusion, Sarah. Just check the bookshelf for the group and you'll see all kinds of books have been read and discussed here!

For me, I like to mix up books I've always "meant" to read with modern mysteries, a bit of non-fiction, and the occasional YA or chick lit. Just go with your mood and enjoy!

PattyMacDotComma Olav Audunssøn: I. Vows takes place in Norway in the 1200s. This translated edition was released just this month. Author Sigrid Undset won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1928. This has all the feuds, arranged marriages, hard times, difficult romancing you'd expect from such a cold place so very long ago, but I think some of her other writing must have been what earned her the Nobel.

message 297: by Pinja (new)

Pinja I'm currently reading The Bat and Kärleken and both of them are making me a bit slumpy but I don't want to pick up other stuff 'cause I'm not really in the mood for anything and I don't want my currently reading shelf to have over 2-3 books at a time :(

I read quite a lot of The Bat today and I'm currently a third through it. I want to finish it soon so that I can move on to other books. I'm only about 20 pages into Kärleken and reading it started this mini-slump so I'm a bit scared to continue it although I think I'll start to like it more as I go :D

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments Currently in the middle of City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert which is so damn funny! Finishing up The Grace of Kings (Dandelion Dynasty #1) by Ken Liu. Early on in The Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard which is quite enjoyable but I think must wait until I have larger chunks of reading time.

Then I want to finish How to Be an Antiracist and Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You. Plus I want to make further progress on these books that I have begun reading:
Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family--so fascinating, especially since my aunt suffered from paranoid schizophrenia)
The Souls of Black Folk--I learned more ACCURATE US history in the first chapter than in my whole life thus far! (And I'm old!)
White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism--I personally do not find it difficult, but most do...
Learning Race, Learning Place: Shaping Racial Identities and Ideas in African American Childhoods
