SOLVED. Children's Fantasy book in which the main character has a book and if he reads the book the characters (evil?) from that book escape to his world. [s]

I read this book around ~2007 from my elementary school's library. The main character has a special power (?) that when he reads from this book the characters from it escape to his world and he then has to save the world. It might also not be the main characters' special ability, but that only reading from his specific book brings the characters to life (regardless of who reads it).

Sounds like The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep but as far as I can see that wasn't published till 2018

wow, the summary sounds exactly like the book! Unfortunately because of when it came out it can't possibly be it haha. thanks anyway, because maybe I now can start looking through the books that are described as similar
