Sky | 1291 comments Gah, not sure what to think at this point.

Long Fist seems to be lying that his move is purely defensive. Then again, I don't really blame him after Il Tornja's missions over the river the last few years. But it almost feels like other Sky's theory is right, Il Tornja and Long Fist have some kind of prior connection. Whether Long Fist is Meshkent made flesh, or something else, there is something larger driving these two forces towards each other.

I liked Kaden's attempt to break the board. The whole constitutional drafting and bickering over the # of representatives, attempts to create a true political utopia was brief but great. Very likely the way things would go should this play out in real life. I like Kiel a lot - Let's hope there is no twist in the end where he is manipulating things for his own ends.

Not sure what I expected when Adare and Valyn finally met. I was hoping they'd see a bit more eye to eye than they did. Now Valyn's met up with the female contingent of his wing but stuck on the tower.

One section last section to go. I hope book II doesn't end on too much of a cliffhanger, no idea when book 3 is coming out :)

Tammy Not sure I am pleased with valyn's decision to wait in the tower while Gwenna tries to organize the town against the massive Urughal onslaught. I am enjoying the killer lady trio though and their bad assedness. Escaping from the Urughal and commanding the defences. This part of the story is one of my favourites so far.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I said I was impatient at all the characters believing lies....but now I really don't know what is lie and what is truth! So...I have a bit more patience with them!

Suzanne | 1582 comments I agree Tammy - I don't agree with Valyn's decision. Even HE kind of thinks its wrong and IMO if you feel so strongly something is wrong, it probably is!

The brutality in this section was pretty extreme - and the torture on the riverside really got to me.

Tammy The torture was definitely horrible. It actually seemed a mercy when Gwenna blew the prisoners up so that the leach could not continue to grow stronger.

I'm getting kind of frustrated with all 3 of the Emperor's kids.

Adare is maybe the least annoying at this point, but I'm still having trouble moving past her dumb luck in succeeding despite her previously blind stupidity.

And, personally I hated the idea of Kaden trying to break the board, simply because his plan to do it was downright awful. I'm glad it failed, because if that had worked I'd be further annoyed. It wasn't very well thought out at all. I wonder if he was really planning to follow through with it, or was simply trying to make a stopgap to thwart his sister and Il Tornja.

Either way, seems downright stupid. Especially given the people he was going to supposedly empower. If it was me, I'd rather my sister run the empire than to give control over to those people.

And Valyn's far too obsessed with revenge that it may cost his friends their lives. He should have gone down to help Gwenna. I guess the plus side of this is, I'm enjoying Gwenna's POV with no Valyn around.

At least you all seemed to have been where I am right now. Who the hell do you believe? It seems like all of them are telling some truth and some lies.

Did Il Tornja know about Adiv trying to kill Kaden? How could he not, especially as this ancient badass? If so what is his real plan for the empire?

Meanwhile Kiel claims Il Tornja wants to wipe out humanity, but Il Tornja told Adare he created the empire to attempt to restore what was lost when the Csetriim started to die off.

And obviously Long Fist lied to Vayln about his forces, but the best way to sell a lie it to tell some of the truth, so what's really been happening with the empire, Il Tornja and the old emperor along that border?

Meanwhile what happened to the Flea's wing?

Trevis | 2 comments Here's the most amazing scene in this book for me;

The Ran-il Tornja confrontation, here's a mighty leach, Nira and her bro and a very angry Empress, hellbent of taking the head off this dude and Csestriim walks away from that with all the cards in his pocket then goes on to show us, he's so uber badass with both his god-mode stratagems and sword skills. Dude became my favorite character at that moment.

He's the only one you feel as a grasp on everything and even when shit happens he's holding all the cards!
