Jaye Card (jayecard) I don't really have any holiday reads, so I started reading How to Train Your Dragon instead since uh...vikings, snow, cold, winter, I figured it would somehow fit. It's pretty hilarious so far, though nothing like the movies. Very interesting to see how they adapted it.

message 155: by Amelie (new)

Amelie | 1656 comments I used to be obsessed with the How to Train Your Dragon book series in primary school, but I agree that it’s very different to the movies. I’m currently reading Let It Snow, which consists of three Christmassy holiday romance novels, and I recently finished We Jace You A Clary Christmas which I highly enjoyed! :)

Lucy Tonks (the invisible life of a reader) | 2037 comments i've never watched how to train your dragon....
i wanna read we jace you clary christmas so bad, but i haven't really had the time to, yet. so i started yesterday we are the wildcats, which is okay so far, not much to say on it and also i'm trying so hard to finish the book of dust, but i think i may end up dnf-ing it..

message 158: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) how to train your dragon is a middle grade masterpiece. the movies were a letdown though- nowhere near as funny. the wizards of once series by the same author is also good.

message 159: by Jaye (new)

Jaye Card (jayecard) I love the movies, but I see them more as vaguely related essentially seperate pieces. Like...cousins. I think the emotional beats from the movie resonate with me more so far, but you're right, there's a lot more (insanely good) humour in the books. The book in the book where you look at a copy of the in universe "How To Train Your Dragon" killed me. All the details...and it has a tenth anniversary edition sticker, on a huge leather tome, I don't know why, but that one really sealed the joke for me - like, it was funny already, but that made it insanely hilarious.

message 160: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) it’s just an excellent book. cowell has a gift. speaking of disappointing movies, i’m thinking of rereading harry potter. again. kind of obsessed. no, very obsessed.

message 161: by Jaye (new)

Jaye Card (jayecard) I got Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 and 3 for Christmas, so I started reading Part 2 for the series finisher challenge (trying to finish all of Volume 1) and I forgot how good these books are. As awkward as the style and translation are, I just enjoy the contents so much. And the artwork is quite nice too!

Jaye Card (jayecard) I started Cress today and Cress is such a precious cinnamon roll...I want to protect her. I want to marry her. I'm 50 pages in and I want to marry her. She lives just like me during quarantine too (ouch).

Thorne is a total himbo though. I mean, I respect that. But he is a himbo.

Jaye Card (jayecard) Cress' book is honestly so far also the best part of the series, in my opinion. Not just because I love Cress, but because I feel like all the other characters are more interesting in this one.

clara [inactive account] (nowaymonet) | 24 comments Jaye wrote: "Cress' book is honestly so far also the best part of the series, in my opinion. Not just because I love Cress, but because I feel like all the other characters are more interesting in this one."

for real! cress is my favorite for sure. though both cinder and winter have quality moments.
to be honest, i don't really like scarlet (the book itself) because i wasn't a huge fan of the plot and both scarlet AND wolf tend to bother me, so.

message 186: by Grace (new)

Grace Broadway I’m reading Harry Potter and I love it! I’m only like 20% of the way through the first book and I’m already looking up decor I can make for my room. I’m going to fangirl so hard for this series aaaaaah

message 187: by Jools (new)

Jools | 8 comments Oh niceee! I really enjoyed Harry Potter, still have to read half of the books, though the movies are amazing tooo!!! Have you seen the movies Grace?:)

message 188: by Grace (new)

Grace Broadway I haven’t but I’m really looking forward to watching them after I finish the books

I saw you're reading Anne of Green Gables it's one of my favorites. How are you linking it so far? You should check out Anne with an E on Netflix when you finish. :)

message 190: by Jools (new)

Jools | 8 comments Oh yeah, I already watched the serie on Netflix and adored it! That is also the reason I started on the book, but I’m the kind of person to just read a million books at the same time and just never finish it haha... so far so good though!!!😅

Jaye Card (jayecard) clara wrote: "Jaye wrote: "Cress' book is honestly so far also the best part of the series, in my opinion. Not just because I love Cress, but because I feel like all the other characters are more interesting in ..."

I was ok with Scarlet overall, but I totally feel that. I don't actively dislike the characters or anything, but I just can't really relate as much to Scarlet and Wolf. Wolf is waaay too serious about everything, and Scarlet...has a lot of anger in her.

message 192: by Grace (new)

Grace Broadway I accidentally stole Cinder from my school’s library a few years ago

I’m currently reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I absolutely love this series! If only it wasn’t written by she who shall not be named :(

message 193: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm currently reading We Were Liars and What if it's Us! Loving both of them.

message 194: by Jaye (new)

Jaye Card (jayecard) I'm a little bit disappointed by Winter so far. I'm two thirds through and while I like the characters, there are scenes with zero build up to them that I just...can't buy. But maybe it's a case of mid book slump, and the final third will drive it all home?

Also, not enough Cress! There is never enough Cress.

message 200: by Jaye (new)

Jaye Card (jayecard) Well, I finished The Lunar Chronicles. I thought it was alright, entertaining, but I didn't LOVE it. My favourite character is definitely Cress, and I found her romance the best one too (Even though Thorne is such a himbo, lol). Iko also surprised me with how much development she got. She deserves to have a book. Maybe The Little Mermaid but instead of a mermaid, she's an android that gets some opportunity to be "human"? IDK.
