Brandy Does it matter which series you read first? will it cause spoiler?

Megpie (meaganleann) | 3 comments It doesn't really matter I don't think. But you will notice after reading both the ways they are connected like characters being descendants from characters in the Infernal Device series and certain characters popping up in both.

I read Mortal Instruments before the other series was even a thought. However, after reading both I'd say Mortal Instruments is way better and one of my all time favorites so I would say start that one first. It's totally up to you. :)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 188 comments As per the author read in publication order. So that means start with the original trilogy and then I think it goes to the fourth book then the first book of Clockwork etc. So instead of reading one series at a time you read them both.

Ahnya I agree read in publication order. I didn't and some of the jokes, or references didn't make sense.
I am going to disagree with Megpie. I love Mortal Instruments, but I thought Infernal Devices was better.

Lanie (Lanies Book Thoughts) (lanieadamsk) | 17 comments I read the first three Mortal Instruments and switched over, but I never went back to the Mortal Instruments anyway. The Infernal series was much netter and wasn't as creepy.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I've never heard of the Mortal Instruments being described as creepy. Trying to think of how it could be considered that way. Is there a certain character or theme that's creepy?

I'd guess the whole incest plotline is what is most off-putting (and I know how it all resolves itself, but there are 2.5 books to go through first).

Brandy I had issues with the incest as well. But I still enjoyed the books

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I don't think it bothered me because I didn't believe it, figured it was just a plot crunch the author was temporarily throwing in there. I know a lot were turned off from it, but I'm used to weird stuff in books I guess.
