Yay, one of my nominations finally won :D I'm excited to read this one, too! Just ordered my copy from Amazon
Is anybody else having a hard time getting into this one or is it just me? The summary seemed so interesting. I'm over two thirds of the way through, so I'll finish it. But I doubt I'll ever revisit it.
I was so disappointed I didn't like this. It wasn't even scary or creepy. The change between narrators was confusing, so it made it difficult to follow at times. Hopefully everyone else finds more enjoyment form it.
Chandler, I started reading it, but the writing style in the first chapter was difficult for me to follow. I put the book down to take a break because I was getting impatient with myself. And I never picked it back up. 😞
Chandler wrote: "I was so disappointed I didn't like this. It wasn't even scary or creepy. The change between narrators was confusing, so it made it difficult to follow at times. Hopefully everyone else finds more ..."I wouldn't bother. It doesn't get better. I was hoping it would :/
I saw the group was reading this in August and meant to pop in to discuss, but must've completely spaced it :(Anyway, like most in this group I did not think this was creepy or scary. The POV changes were abrupt and made the plot, or trajectory of the story, incomprehensible.
There was a whole chapter where a new character was introduced and I didn't even realize it for a dozen pages or more!
I rated it higher than my actual enjoyment (rating was 3, but enjoyment was 2 or less) because it was apparent Oyeyemi is a great writer and I would love to read other work from her.
Still, I can't believe I finished this since I basically had no clue what was going on most of the time :(
