Lee Loved that series and it was hard to move on
well there is not another series like Harry Potter
so if you can, try some thing different.

I read The Morganville Vampire series
its really good and as the last book(2014)
finished the series you wont have to
wait between editions.15 books in total
but you have to read them in order

Deanna It's not YA, but The Magicians has been called the adult version of Harry Potter. I read the first book and it was pretty good.

I really liked the Morganville Vampire series, too. I would also highly suggest The Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvator.

A Long Walk to Water.
It is nothing like Harry Potter, but I loved it!
(I am a HUGE HARRY POTTER FAN and this book was so good)!
I still don't think I will ever get to read something as good as Harry Potter though

Nikita Percy Jackson

Lariela Lord of the Rings.

Sanne Blomme - The Maze Runner Quadrilogy (their is a fifth one coming in 2016);
- The Millenium Trilogy (maybe a fourth one is coming);
- 1984 by Orwell closely followed by The Circle by Dave Eggers;
- Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick;
- The first two Hunger Games novels, the third one doesn't exist.
- The Tunnels Serie (after the cliffhanger in the third book, this serie becomes somewhat shitty, but still readable though);
- Kick Ass Graphic Novel Series (4 parts, Hit-Girl included);
- A farewell to arms, the old man and the sea + A moveable feast (One of Hemingway first novels + the one that one a noble prize + a posthumously novel. All 3 are different.
- A Song of Ice And Fire (But the dude will probably die before finishing it, so wait and see what will happen if he can write his end in time...yeah begin with it if not...no.

:)

Just as a warning if the OP is young The Magicians may not be the most appropriate. It is written for adults so it has some content that might not be good for a young teen.

Lesley Arrowsmith Diana Wynne Jones, especially the Christopher Chant series.

Sophy Bengts The Poison Study series by Maria v Snyder is amazing! It was the first series I read after Harry Potter!

Elise Williams FableHaven. Just like Harry Potter, the cover is stupid, but don't judge it. Amazing content, perfect ending, big book, AND lovable characters.

Shiah I don't really know if you just want books like Harry Potter or other types as well so I'm just going to list a bunch of ones I like and think you might as well.

Fantasy
The Percy Jackson Series - Rick Riordan
The Heroes of Olympus Series - also Rick Riordan
The Mortal Instruments Series - Cassandra Clare (Although its a bit more mature than Rick Riordan's and JK Rowling's stuff)

Dystopian
The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Divergent - Veronica Roth
The Maze Runner - James Dashner
Replica - Jenna Black
Matched - Allie Condie
The Way We Fall - Megan Crewe (not super dystopian it's kinda set now but the world is ending so I just put it here)
Enders Game - Orson Scott Card

Realistic Fiction
The Fault In Our Stars - John Green
If I Stay - Gayle Forman
Torn Away - Jennifer Brown
The Half Life Of Molly Pierce - Katrina Leno
Before I Fall - Lauren Oliver
Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell

You've probably read some of these I just listed what I could think of.

bookgirl I have read Percy Jackson.i agree with the people who have said There is nothing you can compare to HP. but..... I still need almost as good books. :D Thanks everyone!!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes Percy Jackson is awesome. At one point it was a very close tie between HP and PJ but PJ ended up winning after a year or two.

message 15: by AgCl (last edited Jan 13, 2015 08:19PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

AgCl uhm...pottermore? jk, well i suppose the 1. Fable Haven Series is good, 2. Septimus Heap, and 3. Artemis Fowl both are along the line of adventure, magick-ishism but they're more like the first 3 books (children's), 4. Skulduggery Pleasant, its a bit dark and the MC's well..the title says a lot about how the theme and the characters are like, but its a different take on magic (if you like a bit of noir), and that's all i can think off the top of my head so...

message 16: by Marce (last edited Jan 13, 2015 01:11PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Marce Haberkorn Well, depending on your likes, but if you are in a mourning period beacuse of The Deathly Hallows, I´d tell you not to start another saga yet. I recommend you to take up a couple of fun contemporaries, after which you can take up a new series!!

FUN CONTEMPORARIES
1)JOHN GREEN BOOKS Will Grayson, Will Grayson(in colab with David Levithan);Looking for Alaska; An Abundance of Katherines or Let it snow (in colab with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Miracle)

2) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

3) I´ll give you the sun

Or whatever you feel like enjoying for a couple of weeks

Then you can start a brand new adventure-like saga, like PJO and heroes of Olympus, which are extremely fun and packed up with action and lots of lols. Kane Chronicles (by Rick Riordan, as well as HOO and PJO) are also a very good choice!!

Good luck!!!!!!! :D

Calypso Septimus Heap Sires - Angie Sage
Dream House King Sires - Robert Liparulo
Zaharah; The Windseeker

Ella Just going to tell you right now... You will NEVER find any book that is up to par with Harry Potter. Ever. I finished the book four years ago and I still haven't found anything better. But I do recommend the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, The Maze Runner series by James Dashner, Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth, Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore...

Kenna Winters Unwanteds.

message 20: by E (new) - rated it 5 stars

E I read The Unwanteds. It is an excellent series!

Elise Williams Ever since 4th grade I have kept track of how many books i've read, and have read more than 800 books. Out of these 800 books I have picked my 6 favorites. (I hope you like it!)

1) His Majesties Dragon
2) The Rangers Apprentice
3) Fablehaven
4) The Mortal Instruments
5) Legend (you've probably already read this)
6) Artemis Fowl

bookgirl Thank you guys!!! I don't even know where to start with all these books! Elise, I have read one of the artemis Fowl books. But... I have not read legend. What ages would you reccomend it to?

message 23: by Gina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gina The Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is tied with the Harry Potter series as being my favorite books, so those may be good to try out!

message 24: by Yash (new) - rated it 5 stars

Yash Mehta Maybe after the Harry Potter series, you could read books by J.K. Rowling only like 'Quidditch Through The Ages' or 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them' or perhaps 'Tales of Beedle the Bard (although I didn't find it good, 'coz its moral tales, basically, with additional notes from Albus Dumbledore)'.

Karen The Immortal Life of Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott (Series)

message 26: by Suz (new) - rated it 5 stars

Suz Percy Jackson series and then the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. I read these right after Harry Potter and I liked them even more than HP. :) Rick Riordan The Lightning Thief

"The third one doesn't exist."

Yes. I agree. This is a true statement.

bookgirl Oh... and please write what the ages are for the books please.
Thanks! :)

message 29: by Gigi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gigi I would recommend three books for stepping out of Harry's wonderful series.

1: The Fault In our Stars By John Green.
This is a teen/YA novel. Age... 12 to Adult?

2: Dog On It By Spencer Quinn.(Series)
This is just really laid back and funny. It has a good mystery and plot line, but it does entertain you. I'd say for people... 11 or so to Adults.

3: The Giver By Lewis Lowry
Ages 10 to Adult. I LOVED this book and it is one of my all time favorite novels. It really won't disapoint.

Hope you like my suggestions. :)

you can also try The Mysterious Benedict Society. But it is more likely compared to Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events.

Aneesha percy Jackson series
heroes of Olympus
divergent series
the series of unfortunet evnts
the hunger games
the lunar chronicles (cinder , Scarlet ,Cress ,winter , Fairest)
four series
witch and wizard series(the kiss)
Bewitched in Oz
The fault in our stars

Those were the books or series I enjoyed and I hope you do to

Carla Ramos The Sevenwaters trilogy, by Juliet Marillier.

message 36: by Ryan (new)

Ryan There is the Magisterium: The Iron Trial by Holly Black/Cassandra Clare. Which has quite clearly influenced a lot by HP, but only the first book has been released so far.

message 37: by (new) - rated it 5 stars

✩ I think the best books to read are the Percy Jackson series.Cause its kinda like the same thing 3 kids going on adventures in the first couple of books,And in the others things start getting serious.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

I too am wondering on this same thing. I am currently reading the 7th book and honestly though I think I'm going to read Illusions of Fate once I'm finished with this one because I've really been wanting to read that one so hopefully the transition into a new book won't be too hard once I depart with Harry Potter (for now, until I do a re read)

Nikta Green lord loss book one

''darren shan'' 12 books
''deltore ''15 books
''pendragon'' 10 books make me sure you'll read them to the end! ok?
''septimus hip''
and do not read ''the last apprentice ''please!! it is useful for 12 years old person!

darren shan and Pendragon are best!

message 40: by Leon (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leon Kock I enjoy the Diskworld books (Terry Prattchet) as much as I did Potter, and I re-read them as often.

There are 36 individual novels, which you don't have to read in any specific order, although it adds to the laughs if you do read them in order.
