well there is not another series like Harry Potter
so if you can, try some thing different.
I read The Morganville Vampire series
its really good and as the last book(2014)
finished the series you wont have to
wait between editions.15 books in total
but you have to read them in order

I really liked the Morganville Vampire series, too. I would also highly suggest The Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvator.
A Long Walk to Water.
It is nothing like Harry Potter, but I loved it!
(I am a HUGE HARRY POTTER FAN and this book was so good)!
I still don't think I will ever get to read something as good as Harry Potter though

- The Millenium Trilogy (maybe a fourth one is coming);
- 1984 by Orwell closely followed by The Circle by Dave Eggers;
- Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick;
- The first two Hunger Games novels, the third one doesn't exist.
- The Tunnels Serie (after the cliffhanger in the third book, this serie becomes somewhat shitty, but still readable though);
- Kick Ass Graphic Novel Series (4 parts, Hit-Girl included);
- A farewell to arms, the old man and the sea + A moveable feast (One of Hemingway first novels + the one that one a noble prize + a posthumously novel. All 3 are different.
- A Song of Ice And Fire (But the dude will probably die before finishing it, so wait and see what will happen if he can write his end in time...yeah begin with it if not...no.
:)

Just as a warning if the OP is young The Magicians may not be the most appropriate. It is written for adults so it has some content that might not be good for a young teen.

Fantasy
The Percy Jackson Series - Rick Riordan
The Heroes of Olympus Series - also Rick Riordan
The Mortal Instruments Series - Cassandra Clare (Although its a bit more mature than Rick Riordan's and JK Rowling's stuff)
Dystopian
The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Divergent - Veronica Roth
The Maze Runner - James Dashner
Replica - Jenna Black
Matched - Allie Condie
The Way We Fall - Megan Crewe (not super dystopian it's kinda set now but the world is ending so I just put it here)
Enders Game - Orson Scott Card
Realistic Fiction
The Fault In Our Stars - John Green
If I Stay - Gayle Forman
Torn Away - Jennifer Brown
The Half Life Of Molly Pierce - Katrina Leno
Before I Fall - Lauren Oliver
Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell
You've probably read some of these I just listed what I could think of.

Yes Percy Jackson is awesome. At one point it was a very close tie between HP and PJ but PJ ended up winning after a year or two.

FUN CONTEMPORARIES
1)JOHN GREEN BOOKS Will Grayson, Will Grayson(in colab with David Levithan);Looking for Alaska;An Abundance of Katherines or Let it snow (in colab with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Miracle)
2) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
3) I´ll give you the sun
Or whatever you feel like enjoying for a couple of weeks
Then you can start a brand new adventure-like saga, like PJO and heroes of Olympus, which are extremely fun and packed up with action and lots of lols. Kane Chronicles (by Rick Riordan, as well as HOO and PJO) are also a very good choice!!
Good luck!!!!!!! :D

1) His Majesties Dragon
2) The Rangers Apprentice
3) Fablehaven
4) The Mortal Instruments
5) Legend (you've probably already read this)
6) Artemis Fowl

"The third one doesn't exist."
Yes. I agree. This is a true statement.

1: The Fault In our Stars By John Green.
This is a teen/YA novel. Age... 12 to Adult?
2: Dog On It By Spencer Quinn.(Series)
This is just really laid back and funny. It has a good mystery and plot line, but it does entertain you. I'd say for people... 11 or so to Adults.
3: The Giver By Lewis Lowry
Ages 10 to Adult. I LOVED this book and it is one of my all time favorite novels. It really won't disapoint.
Hope you like my suggestions. :)

Lord of the Rings?

maybe for teens, then up.=)

you can also try The Mysterious Benedict Society. But it is more likely compared to Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events.

heroes of Olympus
divergent series
the series of unfortunet evnts
the hunger games
the lunar chronicles (cinder , Scarlet ,Cress ,winter , Fairest)
four series
witch and wizard series(the kiss)
Bewitched in Oz
The fault in our stars
Those were the books or series I enjoyed and I hope you do to

I too am wondering on this same thing. I am currently reading the 7th book and honestly though I think I'm going to read Illusions of Fate once I'm finished with this one because I've really been wanting to read that one so hopefully the transition into a new book won't be too hard once I depart with Harry Potter (for now, until I do a re read)

''darren shan'' 12 books
''deltore ''15 books
''pendragon'' 10 books make me sure you'll read them to the end! ok?
''septimus hip''
and do not read ''the last apprentice ''please!! it is useful for 12 years old person!
darren shan and Pendragon are best!

There are 36 individual novels, which you don't have to read in any specific order, although it adds to the laughs if you do read them in order.
