A bacon eating fluffy bunny Patti !
Hi Ianhopwood, welcome to the group, we all like to leave real life behind whenever possible, even if it is only for a little while ! Look forward to seeing you around. Bringing cake is always a good way to get started so please feel free to do so, chocolate is always good
Hi all - yeah real life needs as many interuptions as possible, and anita its mars bars and chocolate cake on me
Ianhopwood wrote: "Hi everyone. Just joined and am looking to contribute to discussions when possible. Interests are mainly sci fi and fantasy but real life tends to intervene more often than not. Cheers ian"Can't beat a bit of good SciFi and Fantasy, Ian - love the stuff myself. :)
Yep we've got some decent SF and Fantasy (and that's just Patti's Laundry) on the group. Welcome aboard
Hello, Ian! I read those two genres too. Well, the good stuff. These days I put down anything I find tedious. Life's too short (when You're my age!).

I see where we can announce a countdown deal, but where does one announce a permanent price reduction without having ninja moderators jump out of the ceiling and banhammer you?

Hi all, I joined goodreads earlier this year after writing a book, but I've not really got round to engaging in forums on here. I just came across this forum and found lots of interesting comments. I'm interested in humour stories at the moment cos that's what I've written & am currently doing so. I'd like to know is there a specific type of humour people like, or a format that makes people laugh?
Humour is a tricky one, Chris. We all have different criteria. I hate puns, for example! Some love slapstick and others prefer a more gentle, subtle wit. You'll never win 'em all.Edit - welcome, by the way!
Whereas, I love puns. We've got a few very good humourous writers in our group, Chris. Have a nose round the author threads.
And welcome from me too!
Hello all!!! :)So great I found this group!
Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Andreas, my birthday was less than 2 months ago (july 3), I love any good book from fiction to non fiction, I'm a doctor, and besides reading during my spare time, I enjoy writing, and I also love music. My favorite color is green, I mean, who doesn't love green right :).
Ok, can't wait to get more actions in this group.
Hello, I'm Victoria from Kent. I've been dipping my toe into Goodreads here and there for a while, but am trying to get more involved. My favourite genre is historical mystery, maybe with a bit of romance on the side, but I'll try most things if I like the look of the story and characters.
Hello and nice to meet you. We have authors of historical mystery here - look at Anna Faversham's author thread. Looks like you write too so maybe we can see what you're up to. Start an author thread and tell us.
Thank you. I think I have one of Anna's books on my Kindle, waiting to be read. I'll move it to the top of the list! Will definitely start an author's thread when I've settled in a bit.
Hello Victoria, really nice to meet you, I love historical mystery ! Who do you enjoy most ? Amongst my favourite are, Sansom, of course, Karen Maitland, Sharon Penman, and....... Well you get the picture, what about you ?
Anita wrote: "Hello Victoria, really nice to meet you, I love historical mystery ! Who do you enjoy most ?"Hi, Anita. Among my favourites - Sansom, definitely. I love his depictions of Tudor London. Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond series; her research and her knowledge of literature, politics, etc, and the way she wove real life events and people in with her fictional characters was brilliant. I liked the early Cadfaels; again I thought she was very good at creating a sense of the period. A current favourite is Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Mary's - not strictly historical mystery, but it's got history and mysteries.

I've read the first book in the Chronicles of St. Mary's and loved it - a thoroughly irreverent take on history and a breath of fresh air to read. Almost made me want to become an historian!

Almost made me want to become an historian!I am an historian (although no-one's ever offered me the opportunity to time travel) and her history is very good, although as you say, with an irreverent twist. She's never had me shouting 'No, that's WRONG!' at the page or screen, which is more than I can say for a lot of historical fiction.
Honor wrote: "Hi every one.I'm Honor and I'm just back from summer holidays where I've done loads of reading on my kindle. I also like walking and drinking wine. Hello to all xx"
A jolly good and warm welcome to you, Honor - reading, walking and wine, a wonderful combination. You'll fit in beautifully here. :)
I like walking and wine.In combination, I fall over.
I should do less walking, I reckon.
Welcome, Honor!
And welcome Victoria!
Thank you, Patti. And hello, Honor. I agree, reading, walking and drinking wine are excellent hobbies. The only thing missing is eating chocolate!

I haven't tried Chronicles of St Mary's, I will go and have a look now.
Honor how lovely to meet you, come in and make yourself at home.
Hello, I'm Pam. I've been on Goodreads for a few months now and written a fair number of reviews though up to now not very active in forums - I've mostly been posting in the library group (for corrections re books I've read not written!) I'm currently doing a final edit on a book that I wrote many years ago and have updated a lot since, with the intention of self publishing. I have always read a lot and am currently reading through a big collection of fantasy and SF acquired years ago, which I didn't have much time till now to tackle. Children's and YA books are another interest of mine, plus the odd historical or crime novel, and have read quite a few history books in the past also.
