Hi there,I'll inaugurate this nice thread, then! I'm co-founder of Reedsy (https://reedsy.com/), an absolutely fantastic resource for authors. However, as I'm tired of spreading the word about it here and there, I'm just here to discuss books, and wander the Author Zone as I'm always on the look for new topics to blog about.
Ah, and I read all kinds of speculative fiction :)

Don't like giving up info when I don't know what it is for!
"Tried the Reedsy site and I'm afraid it asked for too much information prior to seeing what it's all about. However we've updated our landing page to better explain what to expect now :)
Hi there. I'm new to the group, i found out about you through being a member of the C J Sansom group on facebook and Met Anita who told me about you. I love reading, will try any genre but have to admit to avoiding chick lit. Favourite books are probably supernatural or historical. I am also a member of watrstones reading club in Warrington and we read a great variety of books. I love book series and am halfway through the game of thrones. My to read list is getting to be as long as my read list, will there ever be enough time? I look forward to some lively discussions and debates.
Welcome Jeanette. I'm afraid I'm not into Historical but I do like some supernatural, and I'm definitely with you on the chick lit! I know what you mean about time, and have to admit to having gone on a re-reading spree (Sandford and Connelly, murder mysteries series')last year which i'm still on.
Welcome Jeanette. I hope you enjoy getting to know lots of people in this group - all very friendly.C.J. Sansom is a favourite of mine though I haven't yet read his latest for the reason you mention - insufficient time.
L.A. wrote: "Welcome Jeanette. I'm afraid I'm not into Historical but I do like some supernatural, and I'm definitely with you on the chick lit! I know what you mean about time, and have to admit to having go..."Hi LA, is the connolly you mention John Connolly
Hi Jeanette and welcome, pleased you found us. How often does your Waterstones group meet ? Does every store have a book club ? I must admit I hadn't heard of them before, mind you I don't like shopping so I don't spend much time round the shops. I can't remember the name of the next book out by John Connolly, memory like a sieve ! Would you let me have it again please.
Thank you in advance. It's lovely to see you.
The next John Connolly book is song of shadows out on April 9th, looking forward to it. You can sign up for a monthly newsletter from John Connolly full of info and he can be quite funny as well. Don't know if all waterstones have reading clubs, our one advertised theirs 3 years ago so I signed up, one of their founding members. One of the perks is we get to read some of the samples sent to them by new authors which we can review. We have also had a local Warrington author who did a question and answer session on his first book.
Hi Anna thank you for the welcome. I've just finished lamentation but sadly was a bit disappointed in it, found it a bit plodding. Heartstone was my favourite. My dad was in the navy so I love old ships, went to see the Mary rose museum after reading that book
Anita wrote: "Hi Jeanette and welcome, pleased you found us. How often does your Waterstones group meet ? Does every store have a book club ? I must have a look in our local Waterstones next time I go.
We saw the Mary Rose just after they brought her up back in the 80s. There wasn't much to see at that point but I would guess the museum would be really good and I shall look it up if we ever go near it.
Hi I'm KirstyI love reading, have my kindle in my hand 99% of my spare time. I love my boyfriend, family (especially my much younger sisters who are 6 and 3), my kittens, hamster and TEA! I'm from Yorkshire England.
Hi Kirsty, I'm from South Yorkshire, children, animals, tea and kindles, you will fit right in. Nice to meet you.
I hope that's Yorkshire tea you're drinking then, Kirsty?Welcome to the group, from another avid tea drinker.
This could be the perfect moment to revive my 'Nice cup of tea and a biscuit' thread. Please feel free to contribute Kirsty :)https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Anita wrote: "Hi Kirsty, I'm from South Yorkshire, children, animals, tea and kindles, you will fit right in. Nice to meet you."We're practically neighbours, Anita. I'm in South Yorkshire too.
Hello, I'm Carl, I'm from Surrey and I'm into thrillers, good sci-fi and a bit of crime but not really police procedurals (blimey, that sounds a bit pedantic but anyway). All recommendations very much appreciated!
Many thanks Kath, I'm still getting the hang of groups so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place!
Cheers David, it took me a while to find it!
... Maybe we should form an escape committee... Digging a tunnel could be a start!
Rosemary (The Nosemanny) wrote: "They'd just end up digging back into your dungeon anyway."My dungeon has been closed down for renovations for quite a while. They would find themselves trapped in there with the torture instruments.
Oh dear I am sorry Carl. Well now you know not to follow David! I think there should be a bottle of turps somewhere.
... But somebody mentioned bacon!
Ah. That would have been me. Ooops. Well let me guide you back to safety. Once you have cleaned off that paint.
Hi Anna, well so long as it's a slope and not a sudden drop...!

If you are struggling to get round our site try Group Quick Start
Please start by adding a post to our ‘Introduce Yourself ‘ thread. We are a nosey lot and would love to know who you are, what you like to read (and write), where you live and what you drink, eat, wear and grow.
This thread meanders off-topic quite a bit but as soon as a new member comes along our friendly but bonkers members soon appear to give you a warm welcome.
Of course you don’t have to introduce yourself if you prefer.
Getting started is often a bit of a problem. Try our Group Quick Start for tips.
Many people just stick to reading the Unread Threads
Section. You can even mark everything as read and start with an empty list.
You could head off to Meet The Authors check out the New releases or play some Group Games.
The Author Zone is going great guns. This is not just for authors by any means but gives them a place where they can talk about publishing challenges and resources. It is a no-promo zone!
Even if you don’t feel ready to post something you are most welcome to sit back and watch the fun.
This forum is very lightly moderated (hardly noticeable), occasionally we will ask you to keep a particular thread on topic and we have a few simple rules about author threads and new releases.
If you have any problems you can post questions on the threads or visit our Agony Aunt and someone will come along and help. If you would rather not ask your question publicly by all means send a personal message (PM) to Patti or myself and we will try to help.
I archive this section from time to time, so if you want a conversation that isn't going to disappear, feel free to use any of the existing threads or start your own.
