I think that would be great for a boat!

I am working on The Nothing Man as my next Kindle and audio read so should have that hopefully done in the next couple days for our polar bear answer. :)

I have a couple other in progress reads I should be able to wrap up soon too. Hoping to finish up Rebel today (I have about 2 hours left on audio) or definitely by tomorrow which will fit a few prompts.

Others in progress that I plan to finish this week:
Northanger Abbey
Tehanu
You Look Like a Thing and I Love You: How Artificial Intelligence Works and Why It's Making the World a Weirder Place
There Once Lived a Woman Who Tried to Kill Her Neighbor's Baby: Scary Fairy Tales

It seems this is my week for weird and long titles. :) This readathon hit at a great time - the extra motivation is keeping me reading instead of crashing in front of the TV!

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I just finished The Sparrow and put it into 27) something you'd want on a desert island since they had a lander full of provisions for survival, I mean it's kind of cheating for the typical "one thing on a desert island", but that's okay! It can also be moved to a few other spots if necessary.

I thought about putting it into weight for a polar bear, but seems like the group likes Nothing Man for that. I was thinking that weight is relative because it depends on gravitational pull, and would vary on Earth, Rakhat, and in space (and is weightless in 0g).

message 53: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I finished Rebel and put it in for the time travel one because a glimpse at a futuristic society in Antartica sounds like a good place to visit, but it would work elsewhere if we need to move it. :)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I like the idea of endless pasta! :-)

message 55: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I had a very busy weekend so I didn’t get a lot of reading in. I did get to listen to about 2 hours of The Haunting of Hill House while I was driving though. Going to sit down before bed and try to get some more of it read before bed tonight though! Luckily I was able to get the ebook and the audiobook from the library.

message 56: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mmmm, sign me up for the endless pasta too!! I already eat it on close to a daily basis! (I mean, it's a good vessel for vegetables too)

I finished The Vanishing Half and added it for #4) what would you do in life if you knew you could not fail. One of the characters is in musical theater, and I've been thinking lately that it would be fun to be in a musical in community theater. Though I hate being in front of crowds, so don't know how fun it would actually be.

I really want to read that one soon! I would fail at being musical or in front of an audience! lol

I finished Tehanu and put it down for favorite Halloween costumes because pirate and witch are the two that come to mind from when I was a kid and there's a character who has done a lot of sailing and there's a witch so it works!

I'm about a third of the way into The Nothing Man. It's only 300 or so pages so I likely should finish this one tomorrow.

message 58: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat I tried really hard to finish Color of Magic today, but my kids needed attention. I just have 60 pages left so I'll finish tomorrow and I'll try to find another one to start for one of the prompts that doesn't have anything yet.

I finished 2 books, one on audio, one in print. I put Astrophysics for People in a Hurry under something I hate but wish I loved. I put The Island of Sea Women under color that looks good on me, cover is turquoise & the women wear white to dive, both colors are good on me.

Don't feel bad, SarahKat, you are allowed to have a life!
Good job, everyone!

message 60: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I put a total at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as I couldn't see an overall count of how many we've finished. We answered 18 questions over the weekend! Woohoo!

message 61: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Go us!

I started 2 shorter books, so should be able to finish both of them in the next couple of days. Work is super busy right now, so I won't be reading as much during the week as the weekend, but I do have a few that should be easy reads/engaging in mind, so might go better than expected.

message 62: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Yay team! I'm never sure how reading will go during my work week but we'll see! I am hoping to keep the momentum going. I do have some report running and brainless data entry to get to at some point which is usually a good time for audiobooks! :)

When you finish a book, you can gray out the row and type DONE in the last column, or if you are on a device where you can’t easily do that, one of us will update it. We are doing great and there are still lots of fun prompts left.

message 64: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1144 comments I finished The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine and put in for 2. Bad habits in others that drive you crazy. Amber has SO many bad traits... lying, jealousy, stealing, intolerance, snobbishness... I hated her from the beginning of the book.

message 65: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat I finished The Color of Magic for Favorite Season (Fall, when the colors change).

I will start Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay for 26. Animal I'd want to wake up as (a niffler! Because they are so cute and can sniff out valuables).

message 66: by Dori (new)

Dori (daisydori) | 169 comments I finished A walk by the sea for an outdoor activity that I like.

I'm now reading A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, I'm desperate to finish this as it's this month's book club read. I'm listening to The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on my way to work, I dont know where these would fit but I'm not sure if I can finish them by the end of the week, so I won't commit to anything just yet.

message 67: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat I finished Then She Was Gone for a phobia (kids going missing)

message 68: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I finished The Library Book by Susan Orlean for 16. What is your favorite hobby? reading library books

message 69: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Monday was long, but I did get The Nothing Man finished cuz as far as I'm ever going to know a Polar bear weighs nothing because I'm not about to get close enough to talk one onto a scale! :)

I may work on finishing up Northanger Abbey which would work for a tie in with a favorite show (on the Rory Gilmore reading list for Gilmore Girls) and there are a few characters in there who hit on some pet peeves and I'm sure I could fit it in elsewhere too.

message 70: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I finished The Poet X. Turns out a YA book of verse is pretty easy to finish in small breaks from work.

I was thinking of putting it in "social event you hate most" because she reads her poetry aloud in a few group settings and I hate public speaking. Do you think it would count for "social event" though?

I will finish Away in a Manger tomorrow which is good for favorite holiday.

message 73: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments Hannah, I think so too!

I'm starting two shorter books today Coraline by Neil Gaiman and Amsterdam by Ian McEwan.

message 74: by Edie (last edited Jul 21, 2020 07:47AM) (new)

Edie | 1144 comments Finished Redhead by the Side of the Road by Anne Tyler
When I went to add it to our spreadsheet, got a message that the SPREADSHEET DID NOT EXIST. Help, Emily. Where has our spreadsheet gone???

Well, tried after writing this comment and the spreadsheet was there. Perhaps someone else was editing??

Put this in 38. A genie shows up, what do you wish for? A computer with no issues, Micah, the main characters fixes computers.

message 75: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I made some of the gray completed lines just a shade darker gray. I was having trouble seeing the difference on my computer screen between the lightest gray and white.

message 76: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments Eddie, I can see the book you just finished on the spreadsheet.

message 77: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I also added the done and gray line too it.

message 78: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Make sure you use the link in the second post, the URL gets cut off in the quoted replies so doesn't work.

message 79: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I snuck in a couple of hours of audio today. I will have to find a question for The Body: A Guide for Occupants as I wasn't expecting to finish it but I might be able to now. We have after work remote drinks so not sure how much reading time I'll get for the rest of the evening.

Edie | 1144 comments Ellie wrote: "Make sure you use the link in the second post, the URL gets cut off in the quoted replies so doesn't work."

I have used the same link everytime... glad whatever the problem was has been resolved.

message 81: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat I finished Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay this morning for 26. If I woke up as animal what would I choose to be? A niffler. I'd be cute and rich.

I'll try to find something for one of the prompts with no options on them yet to read next.

message 82: by SarahKat (last edited Jul 21, 2020 10:29AM) (new)

SarahKat I'll start The Turn of the Key for place I'd love to move to (Scottish Highlands). I usually get through mystery/thrillers pretty fast. It would also work for age I'd like to be forever. The MC is 27. I always liked being 27.

Finished the short #NeverAgain: A New Generation Draws the Line and put it under fad I hate (Twitter) The book is inspiring and well read by its young authors.

message 84: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I started listening to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which can be slotted in to a bunch of slots, but will likely take a few days to finish (unless I'm really good at walks and chores after work).

My first goal is to finish A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee's Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival since I have nonfiction goals in my yearly reading (at least every 5th book is nf and next book I finish will be the 5th).

It's really short, only 2 hours audio. David talks about what an awful kid he was in some ways and how he didn't exactly have the privileged life everybody thinks, but it turned out he was perfectly suited for the moment. I thought it would be grim, all about the shooting, but that is only one chapter.

We have read enough to earn 2 wild cards. My understanding is that with a wild card, you can put any book in any category. If we get all categories filled, we can start on a 2nd round.

message 88: by Deborah (last edited Jul 21, 2020 03:47PM) (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Happy Tuesday all!

I finished Northanger Abbey which I filled in for related to a favorite TV show. Gilmore Girls was an easy one since a) a fave and b) there's a book challenge based on it and NA made the list.

I think I'm going to start Rosewater next because I have a buddy read chat for it this weekend. No clue where it would fit best, but flowers are a good smell and roses are pretty. And maybe once I figure out what the book is about I'll have more ideas. :)

message 89: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I'm working on A Horse and His Boy. Been busy and haven't had much reading time, but hope to finish in the next few days.

message 90: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I finished A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee's Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival.

I put it into Olympic sport: mine would be white water kayaking (I mean, not really, because it would be scary, but I've actually said this before) and I think the ocean waves she experienced would feel like whitewater.

I could move it to job you'd hate (border patrol) or best gift (being corny - life, or less corny - a trip) if either of those seem better.

message 91: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I should finally finish The Haunting of Hill House tonight! And I’m off Wednesday Thursday and Friday so I should actually have time to get some good reading in.

The Great Passage is over 200 pages in Kindle but it was a very fast read so I finished it. It's about making a Japanese dictionary and words in general. I put it under pet peeve, as I get peeved when people use words wrong.

message 93: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I did end up finishing The Haunting of Hill House and am slotting it for #25. I think staying overnight in a house that is supposed to be haunted would be both crazy and thrilling.

message 94: by Dori (new)

Dori (daisydori) | 169 comments I'm going to finish The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes today / tomorrow - for now I've put this under 41. the best present I've ever been given because I've always preferred adventures (a day out with family or a weekend trip) rather than physical gifts - Not sure if this could work?

Should finish A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Thursday / Friday which, for now, I've put under 42. the age I would choose forever, many of the characters are in their early 20s - can be moved or used in the second round of course!

I think both sound good for the prompts.

message 96: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat I finished The Book of Three for 12. A goal I've been able to meet. I've met all my Reading Challenge goals for the last few years, so Book-related goals met

message 97: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I noticed Hannah has 32. Fear (Berlin) in dark black type but it has not been marked as done or highlighted gray. I was wondering if this was finished or just a planned book.

message 98: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments 36. How do you like to spend a rainy day? I added Coraline by Neil Gaiman (listening to audiobooks) Today as I was listening to Coraline, it was raining so I thought this fit perfect.

message 99: by Deborah (last edited Jul 22, 2020 10:10PM) (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I finished Rosewater which I put down for something you think is beautiful because roses are pretty and we didn't have anything else slated in on that line.

Also finished You Look Like a Thing and I Love You: How Artificial Intelligence Works and Why It's Making the World a Weirder Place and this one is hard to place. I put it down for thing that you use to motivate you because I have been setting Alexa to give me reminders when I need to attend meetings to motivate me to remember to log in? :)

message 100: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I read a graphic novel yesterday during work breaks, so I've put Victor LaValle's Destroyer down for a job I would hate, unethical medical experimentation (plus she gets fired for being pregnant, so not a good employer).
