Summer '20 Read-A-Thon: Team Icepops

I thought about putting it into weight for a polar bear, but seems like the group likes Nothing Man for that. I was thinking that weight is relative because it depends on gravitational pull, and would vary on Earth, Rakhat, and in space (and is weightless in 0g).

I finished The Vanishing Half and added it for #4) what would you do in life if you knew you could not fail. One of the characters is in musical theater, and I've been thinking lately that it would be fun to be in a musical in community theater. Though I hate being in front of crowds, so don't know how fun it would actually be.

I really want to read that one soon! I would fail at being musical or in front of an audience! lol
I finished Tehanu and put it down for favorite Halloween costumes because pirate and witch are the two that come to mind from when I was a kid and there's a character who has done a lot of sailing and there's a witch so it works!
I'm about a third of the way into The Nothing Man. It's only 300 or so pages so I likely should finish this one tomorrow.

I finished 2 books, one on audio, one in print. I put Astrophysics for People in a Hurry under something I hate but wish I loved. I put The Island of Sea Women under color that looks good on me, cover is turquoise & the women wear white to dive, both colors are good on me.
Don't feel bad, SarahKat, you are allowed to have a life!
Good job, everyone!

I started 2 shorter books, so should be able to finish both of them in the next couple of days. Work is super busy right now, so I won't be reading as much during the week as the weekend, but I do have a few that should be easy reads/engaging in mind, so might go better than expected.

When you finish a book, you can gray out the row and type DONE in the last column, or if you are on a device where you can’t easily do that, one of us will update it. We are doing great and there are still lots of fun prompts left.

I will start Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay for 26. Animal I'd want to wake up as (a niffler! Because they are so cute and can sniff out valuables).

I'm now reading A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, I'm desperate to finish this as it's this month's book club read. I'm listening to The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on my way to work, I dont know where these would fit but I'm not sure if I can finish them by the end of the week, so I won't commit to anything just yet.

I may work on finishing up Northanger Abbey which would work for a tie in with a favorite show (on the Rory Gilmore reading list for Gilmore Girls) and there are a few characters in there who hit on some pet peeves and I'm sure I could fit it in elsewhere too.

I was thinking of putting it in "social event you hate most" because she reads her poetry aloud in a few group settings and I hate public speaking. Do you think it would count for "social event" though?

I would say yes, it counts! :)

I'm starting two shorter books today Coraline by Neil Gaiman and Amsterdam by Ian McEwan.

When I went to add it to our spreadsheet, got a message that the SPREADSHEET DID NOT EXIST. Help, Emily. Where has our spreadsheet gone???
Well, tried after writing this comment and the spreadsheet was there. Perhaps someone else was editing??
Put this in 38. A genie shows up, what do you wish for? A computer with no issues, Micah, the main characters fixes computers.

I have used the same link everytime... glad whatever the problem was has been resolved.

I'll try to find something for one of the prompts with no options on them yet to read next.

Finished the short #NeverAgain: A New Generation Draws the Line and put it under fad I hate (Twitter) The book is inspiring and well read by its young authors.

My first goal is to finish A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee's Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival since I have nonfiction goals in my yearly reading (at least every 5th book is nf and next book I finish will be the 5th).

I haven't heard of this one, looks interesting.

It's really short, only 2 hours audio. David talks about what an awful kid he was in some ways and how he didn't exactly have the privileged life everybody thinks, but it turned out he was perfectly suited for the moment. I thought it would be grim, all about the shooting, but that is only one chapter.

We have read enough to earn 2 wild cards. My understanding is that with a wild card, you can put any book in any category. If we get all categories filled, we can start on a 2nd round.

I finished Northanger Abbey which I filled in for related to a favorite TV show. Gilmore Girls was an easy one since a) a fave and b) there's a book challenge based on it and NA made the list.
I think I'm going to start Rosewater next because I have a buddy read chat for it this weekend. No clue where it would fit best, but flowers are a good smell and roses are pretty. And maybe once I figure out what the book is about I'll have more ideas. :)

I put it into Olympic sport: mine would be white water kayaking (I mean, not really, because it would be scary, but I've actually said this before) and I think the ocean waves she experienced would feel like whitewater.
I could move it to job you'd hate (border patrol) or best gift (being corny - life, or less corny - a trip) if either of those seem better.

The Great Passage is over 200 pages in Kindle but it was a very fast read so I finished it. It's about making a Japanese dictionary and words in general. I put it under pet peeve, as I get peeved when people use words wrong.

Should finish A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Thursday / Friday which, for now, I've put under 42. the age I would choose forever, many of the characters are in their early 20s - can be moved or used in the second round of course!
Dori wrote: "I'm going to finish The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes today / tomorrow - for now I've put this under 41. the best present I've ever been given because I've always preferred adventure..."
I think both sound good for the prompts.

Also finished You Look Like a Thing and I Love You: How Artificial Intelligence Works and Why It's Making the World a Weirder Place and this one is hard to place. I put it down for thing that you use to motivate you because I have been setting Alexa to give me reminders when I need to attend meetings to motivate me to remember to log in? :)

I think that would be great for a boat!
I am working on The Nothing Man as my next Kindle and audio read so should have that hopefully done in the next couple days for our polar bear answer. :)
I have a couple other in progress reads I should be able to wrap up soon too. Hoping to finish up Rebel today (I have about 2 hours left on audio) or definitely by tomorrow which will fit a few prompts.
Others in progress that I plan to finish this week:
Northanger Abbey
Tehanu
You Look Like a Thing and I Love You: How Artificial Intelligence Works and Why It's Making the World a Weirder Place
There Once Lived a Woman Who Tried to Kill Her Neighbor's Baby: Scary Fairy Tales
It seems this is my week for weird and long titles. :) This readathon hit at a great time - the extra motivation is keeping me reading instead of crashing in front of the TV!
