High school girl is a regular babysitter for a little boy around 4(???) She notices he is becoming more withdrawn and sad, and then starts noticing bruises on his body. She assumes the dad is a using him but when she finally works up the courage to bring it up to the mom, the mom breaks down crying and admits that it’s her. That she gets so stressed out wanting things to be perfect for her husband that she loses her temper with the son. Not part of a series but there were other books (MSU e by the same author?? Maybe not) that covered serious topics like this. Not Lurene McDaniel books but around the same time as them
