We knew from previous books that she was smart and could take care of herself. I really wasn't surprised to learn that she had left an abusive situation and changed her identity. She actually handled the situation with Lionel very well. I don't remember much about Samuel in the previous books in this series. It was easy to tell that he had a thing for Sandy. I'm not sure if she returns the feelings.
I'm not sure if she reciprocates Samuel's affections or not but it would be nice if she found a good man to share her life with. I love when the abused woman kicks her abuser's butt. I like a woman who finds the strength to fight back against abuse. Him peeing himself was the cherry on top.
It was a good side plot to throw some doubt into the bank robbery mystery as well. And who doesn't like it when a victim gets to kick the perpetrator's a**.
It was interesting how Sandy first reverted to the fear she used to have of this guy when he broke into the B&B. I loved how her evolved self kicked in and managed the situation. Even if Lionel was locked up in prison, I don’t think he’d come after this new person again.
Color me very surprised to learn Sandy had a secret identity. She hadn’t shown any signs of a history of abuse, a tribute to the work she’d done on herself.
I hadn’t noticed Samuel’s interest in Sandy in past stories either. Seems like a lovely match.

I was surprised by Sandy's past. I totally bought into her being an independent business owner. I thought she belonged into the Prepper community.I didn't remember Samuel's past association with Sandy either. I like the match. I felt bad for Samuel when he thought she was part of the Gamble group.
