Adult - leader of a group is approached by one of his men to watch out for/protect his daughter. 2010-2020?

have not actually read the story, so can only remember pieces of info from blurb/preview. (also no spoilers)
-could possibly be fantasy
-leader of the group comes off as cold, doesnt trust many
-approached by one of his men (at some sort of bar possibly) and asked of he could watch over his daughter, wants him to as he may be the only one to protect her? (not sure)
-leader isnt quick to agree, but thinks about it because he doesnt dislike the man and has some respect for him
-may be a series, where each book is a different character?

in regards to it possibly being fantasy, i mean characters could be of some paranormal / immortal race...or hust human. (just not sure if im jumbling stories together though!)
