I think this is the Journey to America series by Clare Pastore. Book 1 is Fiona (fleeing from the potato famine) and book 2 is Aniela (fleeing from Nazi occupied Poland).

One book was about an Irish girl who left during the Potato Famine. I believe her name was Fiona and she had an older brother named Patrick who went with her to America. I think her father died before or after she left. She had to leave Ireland because she stole food from a British storehouse so they wouldn’t starve. In America she got a job as a maid for a rich family. Picture on the cover was a painting of her with red hair holding a bag or basket.
The other book was about a Polish girl, I think her name started with A. I don’t think she was Jewish, but she (and I think her father went with her, though he may have stayed behind) fled to America during WWII and the Nazi occupation. Cover was a painting of her looking out at the ocean or a boat (I think?) possibly wearing a hat and a gold locket necklace.
