Reed | 2 comments 2008 Sci-Fi story (a pretty long book) where humans have stone age technology and aliens with teleportation capabilities have taken over the earth. The hero of the story discovers that the method the aliens have used to protect their teleportation methods involves vaccum sealing the control panel so that it destroys itself when opened. I remember the main character attends a council of some kind during the book wearing a shimmering multicolored kimono esque garment

Andy Phillips | 240 comments I don't think this is right, but elements match. Can you rule out Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000?

Is the only SF novel I can think of - caution - it is a massive book on a par with LOTR.

Reed | 2 comments It was battlefield earth! thank you all so much I've been trying to find this goddamn book again for years. Spectacular story I'd recommend to anyone who hasn't already read it

Andy Phillips | 240 comments The book is certainly better than the movie!

Andrew Walker-Shard | 37 comments I tend to find that is usually the case. I have on the odd occassion seen the film before the book and wondered if the two were related or if the director had even read the book.

I think the best film adaptation I have seen is Peter Jacksons LOTR but even then he missed a lot of material. And how he got THREE films from the Hobbit I do not know.
