Now onto What Nature Does for Britain. Juniper is a passionate advocate for all things environments, and the points he is making in this are very well put.

Sophie | 61 comments Just started Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream by H.G Bissinger. Loved, loved, loved the TV show and have been wanting to get my teeth into this for ages!

Attia (rainbowblue) | 3 comments Just started The Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke - I'm finding it a great read so far - I loved the Inkheart trilogy and I find she writes in such a simple but fulsome manner!

Half way through Bad Banks: Greed, Incompetence and the Next Global Crisis. Interesting but quite scary as they still have not addressed the problems that were the cause of the 2008 crash and depression

Jackie | 380 comments I've started Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian. I'm enjoying it so far.

Also half way through Mountains of the Mind now. Hoping to finish it over the weekend

My son went to what will hopefully be his senior school yesterday, and I noticed that the lecture programme includes one by Robert MacFarlane next week! I did think of you Paul, as I know how much you like his books.

Joy Stephenson (joyfrankie) | 463 comments Ive read about 80 pages of Fool's Errand but may give up as nothing has happened yet. I've not read Robin Hobb before and I probably should have started earlier in the series but this was the only one in the library. Anyone read it? Shall I press on?

Jennifer Brown I'm currently reading The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie. I have just started a new job so am pretty knackered at night but it seems ok so far - not as funny as reviews would have you believe. But I am trying to finish it quickly so I can start Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith - loved the last 2 books! :)

Hi Jennifer, long time no see; hope you're well. I have a copy of The Gun Seller at home too. Not got around to reading it yet though.

Jennifer Brown Hi Paul, I know it's been a while since I've posted but am still checking good reads pretty much daily!! Am so happy I came across this site! Almost completed my yearly challenge so very happy with that, especially seeing as I have been cross stitching more than reading lately! But with the summer coming soon in Australia I am looking forward to spending hours outside with many good books!!

message 481: by Jon (new)

Jon Adcock | 255 comments Started A Fan's Notes by Frederick Exley. It's one of those "cult classics" that you either love or hate. So we'll see which side I end up on

Started Our Final Invention: Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era a frankly quite frightening book about the perils of AI and 1519: A Journey to the End of Time, travelling among the Mayans, Aztecs and other cultures of the gulf coast of Mexico. It was kindly provided by the publisher for me to read and review

It was a very cleverly written, heartbreakingly sad read in many ways. I liked it and it got me thinking about it afterwards too.

Just started Life of Pi. Not totally sure yet about it.

message 496: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 494 comments I am guessing Pi isn't my kind of a book, or a movie. I just started Animal Farm, let's see if I managed to finish it, too.

message 498: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 494 comments I'll be interested in what you will think about the Scandinavia book. Which, despite the name, is actually about the Nordic countries, not just Scandinavia.

Personally I am starting to get bored of the stereotypes and cliches, they get less funny every time I hear them. Often they are just plain wrong, too.

message 499: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod

Tytti | 494 comments Paul wrote: "I am sure that you will be my harshest critic Tytti"

Hah, I might, but I can't really blame you if you get the wrong idea. I'll just blame the author instead. I've already read reviews about the book anyway, I believe most have said that he doesn't really know Finland so he just repeats the cliches. Sweden gets a harsher treatment and Iceland just a few pages.
