Let's talk about Pride and Prejudice!

This discussion board is for talking about the book as we go - so, feel free to discuss what's happened in the chapters assigned for the day on which you're posting, or before, but PLEASE be considerate to other readers and avoid spoilers if you've already read this novel or are reading ahead of the schedule. I will delete any posts that I think might spoil the novel for new readers. I know it feels like everyone knows the story of Pride and Prejudice, but not everybody does.

Our schedule:
18th July: chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
19th July: chapters 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
20th July: chapters 11, 12, 13, 14
21st July: chapters 15, 16, 17, 18,
22nd July: chapters 19, 20, 21, 22
23rd July: chapters 23, 24, 25, 26,
24th July: chapters 27, 28, 29, 30,
25th July: chapters 31, 32, 33, 34, 35
26th July: chapters 36, 37, 38, 39, 40
27th July: chapters 41, 42, 43, 44
28th July: chapters 45, 46, 47, 48
29th July: chapters 49, 50, 51, 52
30th July: chapters 53, 54, 55, 56,
31st July: chapters 57, 58, 59, 60, 61

If you're behind schedule, it's probably best to avoid the boards until you catch up.

If you've already finished the book - head over to the SPOILERS board.

Mandy | 3 comments I’m really excited to get started on the P&P read along in a couple of days. It’s always been my favourite Austen novel and I’ve decided to read it as an audio book this time around. Should be great fun.

A Bear and a Bee Books | 2 comments I’m so happy that I finally picked this up. I’ve loved the story for many years but am glad to be finally consuming the original text! Ah, the banter is so good! I’m loving this!

I love Jane's wit and that opening line is a great example.
And if Jane had kept the copyright, there's either be fewer parodies and copies of it or her the descendants of her nieces and nephews would be very, very rich from that one line!

Rachel Binning | 33 comments I'm just starting this tomorrow because I've just finished Sanditon (which was brilliant). Luckily for me my reading of P&P will be a reread so I do hope to be able to catch up with the schedule. Anyone who hasn't read this - you're in for a treat. Love love love it!

I am absolutely loving my reread so far - every time I reread Pride and Prejudice it's just so amazing <3

Kelsey Carlson | 22 comments I’m still quite confused about what is so amusing about Mrs Bennett saying they dine with 4 and 20 families. Would anybody be willing to shed some light?

So, the idea that Mrs Bennet says they dine with 24 families, meaning to show how many friends they have/how many people of their class there are hereabouts, and Miss Bingley finds it funny because to her mind it's not that many people at all.

Rachel Binning | 33 comments Mr Collins proposal to Lizzie! So brilliant, makes me chuckle every time - how he's so convinced her refusal is not really a refusal but encouragement and she is mortified trying to tell him really she doesn't want to marry him, and that her refusal is perfectly sincere :D

Some advice books actually did tell young ladies to refuse at first because no actually means yes eventually!

Jennie (jenniejohnston) | 1 comments I am listening to this on audio for the first time and really enjoying it. The banter, and relationship development is perfection.

Which Audio Book Version are you using please? Have never listened to PP in full yet, though I believe Rosamunde Pike version is good. I listened to a part of it sometime ago but never got round to getting it.
Thanks!
