What's up with re-release of Hathaways on Audio?

Audible just re-released the first few books of the Hathaways series. The narrator is the same (Rosalyn Landor). I read the description for Mine Till Midnight and it says 'A revised and updated edition..'

Anyone know what is up with this? Wondering if new material was added or if the audio was just re-recorded?

I do enjoy her narrations :) I'm not quite sure what is different here or if it is simply a marketing ploy to re-release the existing recording.

I read some comments on Audible and apparently they are “sanitized” for 2020.

I’m not 100% certain of what has been removed in the re-release. But I think some would argue that carrying off your Gypsy bride is a little rape-y? That’s the only thing I can think of from that series.

Update on this after listening to Seduce me at Sunrise. The stories are the same, but definitely rewritten in places.

Kev's prejudice toward the Gypsies was toned way down. During the betrothal feast, I recall he was worried about the silver being carried off and nowhere near as thrilled to have his long-lost Gypsy cousins around as Cam was. His snide, grumpy comments were cut. I thought his original reaction was very in-character, but I suppose it was cut because he was being prejudiced.

The love scene in the bedroom against the wall was sanitized. I can't remember exactly what is missing, but I remember it being more intense (and hot). This is after the drama with the poisoning and Kev is still a bit angry regarding the glossing over of pregnancy risks. Kev is less dominating in this scene.

I'm sure there are more bits that were tweaked. Nothing to change the story, but I wish she'd left it alone. YMMV.

It is. I'm not sure if this is the author's idea or the publisher. I realize things are tense in the U.S. right now about any content considered 'problematic' racially or sexually, but IMHO Lisa Kleypas' books are far from bodice rippers (except for her very first few novels). I grew up reading bodice rippers, Kleypas' well known books are tame, even her first couple of edgier novels are fairly tame when stacked up against the heyday of bodice rippers.

I'm not a fan, in general, of "updating" published books. I'm not a child, as you say. I can differentiate fantasy from reality and can handle things that may not be considered 100% politically correct. Life isn't 100% politically correct. So many pitfalls here.

Sighhhh.... I just hope I have the original versions on audio saved somewhere. I also need to research how Audible handles it when you have purchased an earlier edition. If you delete it, does that mean you automatically get the newer version?

FYI - I just downloaded all of the Hathaway books I’d previously purchased from audible. Thankfully, in every case, it did give me the version I originally purchased
