Paul A | 16 comments A group of computer scientist enter a computer generated fantasy realm, one as a dwarf, one a wizard etc., I remember an important plot point was when they solved the computer memory problems when they realised they didn’t need to create the whole world all of the time (which needed far too much memory) just the parts they were looking at. Probably read in the late 80’s.

Paul, I added some details to the topic header, so your book might be recognized from the header alone. Feel free to update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website – not the Mobile website or app.

Paul A | 16 comments Thanks for that, I also remember it being a very thick book.

Paul A | 16 comments It’s not that one - but thanks, i clearly remember the part where somebody realised they were using too much memory in the computer trying to create all of the world at once - rather than just the bits being looked at.

Paul A | 16 comments I have another book I'm looking for and I'll post details for that one - beginning to think these are just ideas I've had and not books at all.

Paul is still looking for this book:

"Sci-fi / Fantasy cross over, American students create a fantasy world and somehow enter it.
I read this in the early 80's I think. A main plot point was that the characters in the book creating this fantasy world were struggling with the amount of memory needed in the computer, but they realised they only needed to generate the images in the filed of vision of the characters (they must have been wearing some sort of headset to enter the fantasy world - but I don't remember that part) they each took on a fantasy character, wizard, dwarf etc., I do remember that they were American students living on a big campus."

No computer, not students.

Paul A | 16 comments Thanks but it's not that one. The key points are the American students and the computer memory.
