Plot: a boy with a perfect memory- who remembers all the important dates in a village. He gets tested on his memory by an important traveler. He passes the test and is taken to a school where he learns how to use his memory like a filing cabinet. He becomes and traveling storyteller.
Another plot is of a man labeled "the most dangerous man in the world" who is shipwrecked and almost dies but is then rescued. The warrior helps the storyteller conquer whatever the evil was in the book.

Adult I guess. It reminds me of The Belgariad series by David Eddings.
