I felt a little sorry for him . A crippled, young, motherless boy . However, that just cannot excuse his cruel behavior. I suppose he needed to be seen by a psychiatrist/ psychologist and counselled / treated .
Kudos to SH for his great insights, wonderful observations and brilliant deductions . I'm so glad he solved the case . (hide spoiler)]

John Garrideb aka James Winter was such a cunning man, the way he plotted and convinced poor guy Nathan was so bad.. thanks to SH, Winter didn't lay his hands on the printing press...

What was most endearing about the case was SH's concern towards Dr. Watson.. we all know and that SH cares about him and he is one of the closest friend he has, but admitting to that in face of danger was such a beautiful thing.... Dr. Watson's feelings melted my heart --- "It was worth a wound, it was worth many wounds, to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask" (hide spoiler)]

I have finished The Problem of Thor Bridge:

(view spoiler)[As soon as the manager Mr. Bates entered the scene all nervous and jittery I was interested in the case.. and then when Mr. Gibson entered the scene, his description was so vivid and intimidating.. and the way SH just called his bluff out was amazing! I felt sad for Mr. Gibson's feelings and how they never worked out..

Once again, amazing deduction skills by SH.. A poor soul lost, out of love and rage Mrs. Gibson ended her own life.. such a tragic end and a way to show us how love when gone out of control can turn into a sour relation... although Mr. Gibson was a little bit at fault but he definitely didn't do anything to hurt his own wife of Ms. Dunbar..

I guess Mrs. Gibson may have also planted the manager Mr. Bates to make it look like Mr. Gibson is a bad man in front of SH.. what do you think? (hide spoiler)]

What a web of deceit he had spun , to lay his hands on the counterfeit printing press . SH saw through his lies right from the start ! Obnoxious character - this James Winter !

SH once again excellently showed his skills.. he was unable to remember what the words 'Lion's Mane' meant bit was sure he had read it somewhere.. I liked what he said about his queer habit too: “I am an omnivorous reader with a strangely retentive memory for trifles. That phrase ‘the Lion’s Mane’ haunted my mind." (hide spoiler)]

It was so unfortunate to hear about Mrs. and Mr. Ronder.. Mr. Ronder to lose his life in such a tragic way and for Mrs. Ronder to bear the scars of her husband's death and her own tragedy for the rest of her life... 😟

Mr. Ronder wasn't a good man and agreed that he treated his wife and others with such harshness.. but I still can't find justification for Mrs. Ronder an her lover to kill him.. he deserved to die yes, but still.. a crime is a crime.. I felt sorry for Mrs. Ronder too, she went through so much trauma but at the end I was glad she took SH's friendly advise on not ending her life...

As SH said, it would've been good if he was employed for the case when the tragedy actually happened and not dismiss the case as a mere accident at that time.. but what was the use anyways, Mrs. Ronder had never intended to give a statement against Leonardo even though his cowardice was the cause of this tragedy... sad story! my heart aches with this one! 💔 (hide spoiler)]

I finished The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place:

Such strange happenings that the trainer John Mason couldn't figure put but he was right in coming to SH although he had no idea what he wants SH to look into... such a clever thing to do on SH's part to use the dog as a key to resolve the mystery.. it was a delightful case but with a tragic end!

What Sir Robert did wasn't the right thing to do morally or ethically, but people seldom think of morals and ethics when there is so much as stake.. and in this case it was for Sir Robert his pride and honor which were to be gone for a toss hadn't he paid his debts...

It also makes me wonder on how much progress medicine had made.. diseases that may have killed people in the past are now treatable completely or in some cases at least modern medicine allows it to be in control.. As I type this, the current situation depressed me, the pandemic, the cases rising!!! I hope you and your family is staying safe and healthy... (hide spoiler)]

I liked the case and SH's tricks to fool both Amberly and poor Dr. Watson.. I felt pity for poor Dr. Watson but he really displayed exceptional skills in tracking some important information, a perk of being in SH's company for so long I guess...🧐😉

Also, the encounter with Barker was fun to read, but glad that Barker and SH finally worked together even though being rivals....

SH's deduction skills are amazing as usual.. Amberly was a stupid man to think he can outwit SH and win this stupid game.. I feel sorry for the two souls lost.. and Amberly should definitely put in an asylum than in the jail...

For me the entire series for a 3-star read, some cases weren't criminal cases at all, they were enjoyable no doubt but with SH we naturally expect a lot of drama, crime and action... I missed that in some cases.. some cases touched my heart, innocent people dying/suffering is a bad thing... overall, it was enjoyable but the experience with fellow-readers was more enjoyable than the stories... we should definitely buddy-read some other stuff sometime soon.. until then, I wish you all good luck in your life and wish you amazing experiences with amazing reading!!!!

I finished The Veiled Lodger . Well written , Sehrish ! I agree with your points . (view spoiler)[ It was a strange , horrifying story. Mrs Ronder and Leonardo were not justified in their actions . The retribution was terrible, especially for Mrs Ronder - life in death , like a caged animal ! Worse than death itself .
I was struck by SH 's words - " If there is not some compensation hereafter , then the world is a cruel jest . "
And- " The example of patient suffering is in itself the most precious of all lessons to an impatient world . "
Powerful , thought provoking words . Mrs Ronder gave up the idea of suicide. (hide spoiler)]
I love the author's words, the characters and situations that he creates , and the lessons learnt . It's not just SH 's brilliant deduction skills . 🤩

I finished Shoscombe Old Place . (view spoiler)[ It ended quite well for Sir Robert , Sehrish. His horse won the race and the debts were paid off. There was only a mild problem with the police. He got off quite easily. True, money made him forget his morals and ethics , but there was no murder or some such serious crime. Apparently , the police let him off easily.
It is very true , Sehrish , modern medicine has made great strides in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases . But here we are all stuck with this dreadful pandemic ! Thank you for your good wishes!
