It is normal behaviour. There is no bookaholics anonymous as no one wants to quit.

That's a very good point you make.

Pink 18. Cry, the Beloved Country I'm making limited progress with this challenge. Currently 10 books behind schedule.

Saffron (celeste1973) | 136 comments I just can't stop buying new books at the moment, I really do need to step away from anywhere that looks even slightly like it may have a book for sale. I now have no where to put another book unless I start piling them up the stairs and as I hate clutter that's not going to happen.

My FIL is the same with CD's the man has thousands of them and does't listen to them more than once as there is always a new amazon delivery to open.

You are right Paul it is an illness but I'm no quitter ;-)

Big Brother Another off my dusty shelf. I really enjoyed this. A lot of reviews of it criticise the ending, but I thought it was the perfect Shriver ending and left a lot of food for thought at the end of the book. Well worth a read.

Also read:

Levels of Life by Julian Barnes which I seem unable to link to, but which is excellent and I would highly recommend it.

The Roots of the Olive Tree which was also a good read.

The last chapter of Levels of Life is very moving

Got three to read over this weekend: Fahrenheit 451 for my The book you always meant to read, Jonathan Livingston Seagull for the 100 pages or less and A book from your childhood which is Stig of the Dump

message 112: by Pink (new)

Pink Looks like you read lots on your hols, a very nice mix. I'm far, far behind with my dusty books.

I don't feel quite so bad now!

message 114: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm currently 21 books behind schedule. That's quite a way behind and I'm not sure how practical it is to think I will catch up!!

I've read quite a few books since last posting, the best of which was definitely The Goldfinch

Wraith
Empath
Blood Faerie
Secrets of the Lighthouse
A Week in December
An Invisible Sign of My Own
The Great Gatsby
Zebras In London
The Phoenix and the Carpet
If
The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Pink I'm 21 behind as well. Set my challenge for 100 books, only read 25 so far, but I won't change it for now.

message 120: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
Likewise. I still need to read them!

message 121: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm doing that too Pat! I'm not going to change my total either. I'm hoping to catch up at some point.

I now have three new bookshelves too, which means I have some space! :-)

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a lot of space for new dusty shelf books.

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
Oh yes.

message 125: by Pink (new)

Pink Haha, three new bookshelves is a lot of space for lovely new books. I bet you'll have fun filling them!

Further books knocked off my list are:

Looking for Alaska Pretty good read, but I was comparing it to the Fault in Our Stars which is a personal favourite and it didn't live up to my expectations.
The Jewel of St. Petersburg I expected more from this too. I've loved her earlier books and this is a prequel to those but I didn't enjoy it much by comparison.
Bright Young Things Fantastic. Loved this one.
Magic Study The second in a series I downloaded onto my kindle a good while ago. Not fantastic literature but gripping enough that I need to know how it ends.
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch Good, but I prefer Gaiman on his own. This didn't sell me on Pratchett as a writer.
Poison Study First in a series I've had for ages. I enjoyed this.
Songs of Morphine this was okay. Worth a read but nothing outstanding.
AOA Enjoyed this one far more than I expected
Covert I enjoyed this too, genuinely didn't work it out until the end although not a fantastic piece of writing.
The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the first in the series.
Broken Silence SilenceSilent Night - a series I've had on my kindle for a long time. Not great or taxing reads, but that kind of series where you need to know how it ends anyway.
The Story Sisters Sublime. Loved this.
The King's Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy I found this far more interesting and less taxing than I had anticipated and am glad I read it.
Starter for Ten A good read. I'd been put off it by watching half the film and getting bored, but the book was great.
BornRebornBorn to Fight A YA dystopian series. Not great literature but I really enjoyed it.
The 10PM QuestionThere's a reason this was on my dusty shelf. I gave it two stars because it wasn't the worst thing I've ever read.

How are you?

message 130: by [deleted user] (new)

Not too bad, thanks Paul. How are you?

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Aaron. Nice to meet you. are you interested in doing the Dusty Shelf Challenge?

message 132: by [deleted user] (new)

The World According to Garp is my latest Dusty Shelf Challenge read. Very much enjoyed this one

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

I've now read The Cookbook Collector, which was odd. Some parts were really good but for the most part it was lacking in plot and character development and arguably the most interesting plot line (that of the titled Cookbook Collector was barely explored).

I'm currently reading The Snow Child which is gripping so far.
