SOLVED. 1970s YA Girl makes gravy for picky cat. [s]

Early 1970s young adult. Girl has mother cat who is picky eater. Girl melts down vitamins to make a gravy for the cat food. Her father has boxes and boxes of these vitamins. Apparently gravy smells so good that people want to use it also. At the end of the book the girl has gone through all her fathers supply of vitamins.
