I think it's a fractured Snow White story. The main character is a princess whose mother died when she was younger, and when her father dies her unpleasant aunt or something similar comes to take care of her/the kingdom. I think she gets locked up for a while because she's so insubordinate. Like in a tower.

Her kingdom is/was at war with the neighboring country, and I think she has to marry the prince from that other kingdom to make/keep peace. She hates him. But they get closer, and toward the end they're alone together up a mountain and he dies. She uses some sort of magic to revive him (maybe true love's kiss?) and they wind up marrying and living happily ever after.

I've been wanting to reread this for a little while but I can't remember its name! The cover is a girl in a ball gown, I think. Not sure though.

Several years ago. I'd guess it was written around 10 years ago or so, but it's hard to gauge. I'm pretty sure it wasn't new at the time. I think I was just on a fractured fairytale kick and reading all of them I could find.
