Maddy wrote: "Hey Ora, how did you like Kaz? :)"I love Kaz!!!! I still need to read Smoke and Bone. Probably have a better understanding of the griesha and what happened before.
I haven't read the trilogy either, just started with Crows and wow. I like them all, but Kaz is definitely a favorite and Inej is close second. Will you read Smoke and Bone too?
I also went Six of Crows first before going back to read Shadow & Bone. It worked, but reading the first trilogy definitely gave me a lot better understanding of the world - and made rereading SoC a lot of fun.
I haven't decided about the Shadow and bone, but if it is anything like crows, then I will probably like it :D Fingers crossed we get a good word next week and can use them :D
It's definitely not as good and not as dark as SoC, but I still thought it was a very solid and enjoyable YA fantasy and I absolutely love the world. And if you want to go on with the new series, King of Scars, you definitely need the info from S&B.

I read Shadow and Bone shortly after it was released and I’ve been avoiding the author since. I didn’t dislike the book but I also didn’t like it enough to continue the series. Maybe I should give her another try.
That series has been on my radar as a "might-try-it-some-day", but I have not read anything by L.B. yet. While I love the Fantasy genre in general, YA fantasy is strongly a hit-or-miss category for me and based on the reviews of my GR friends I am not sure it's my kinda book. :) But I might still give it a try ...
i think shadow and bone is more 'classic' YA with like more of a focus on romance and a not-really-but-kind-of-almost love triangle but six of crows is really good and you don't need to read the original trilogy to enjoy it. i really loved king of scars as well but unfortunately you *do* need to read the grisha trilogy for that. i do enjoy the grisha trilogy for what it is but there's definitely a lot of places where it doesn't necessarily 'break the mold' of YA imo.

And now I remember why I didn’t care for Shadow and Bone. Love triangles make me feel a little crazy if they aren’t very very well done and I didn’t think this one was. I read it in 2013 so it was a long time ago.

Shadow and bone sounds too cliche YA Fantasy, but Six of crows is just something else.

Just want to confirm that on other teams' recommendations, if they say they recommend the whole series or any book by a certain author, then we can read any book in the series or books by that author.
Jackie wrote: "Just want to confirm that on other teams' recommendations, if they say they recommend the whole series or any book by a certain author, then we can read any book in the series or books by that author."Correct, Jackie. If it's such a vague recommendation, then we have lots of leeway.

I'm not sure if this is pushing it for road trip, does the mode of transportation have to be a car or can it take place in space going to planets? I just remembered the constellation sereis that features AI (hate to say robots because Abel is so much more, but there are other robots only doing what they are programmed to do) and wanted to know if an unintentional road trip counts. Can't remember all the details since it's been a while since I read the series, but after Noemi and Abel find themselves as unwilling allies and wind up going to a "pleasure planet" then have to go to two other planets before going to Earth. I think they make it to Earth in the first book. If you haven't read the series and like SF dystopian books, it's a MUST read.
Ora, I really like the idea of an interstellar road trip, but I think it's something that we may need to run by the captains' group to see if this would be accepted.

I gave it 3 stars. The writing is good but it just didn't grab me. I know it's fantasy but the characters' actions were just so unrealistic that it really bugged me. I'll probably read the next book though (view spoiler) I'm hopeful that I'll like the next one more.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
