Anyone else feeling a little hemmed in by this round's letters? I'm just staring at the books I have that'll work and I'm just like....no thank you. So I think I'm gonna throw all previous TBRs for this month out the window and just read some Star Wars. Because there are always heaps of weird names that fit practically every letter of the alphabet in Star Wars. For the last decade or so I've been doing this reading project where I read everything SW in publication order (and I mean everything - comics, short stories, kids books, EVERYTHING) but I think I'll put that to the side and just read the novels that I can count for this challenge. Hopefully that'll give me enough motivation to knock out a bunch of books.
Fingers crossed this works out well for all us lol
Honestly, I have been struggling to read at my normal pace for the past few months. I feel like this week I am actually out of my reading funk and back to my normal reading speed. I am whipping out books and feeling like myself so these letters haven't held me back at all. I was concerned going into the week with these letters but I have been doing well with my book choices.
I thought I was going to have trouble with this word, but it hasn't been that bad.Day 1 BOM questions were a bit much though - 6 questions! And there were numerous questions within each question.
Moving on to Star Wars was such a good idea! Just finished one book that works for every single letter and I'm gonna start another one that works for all but one letter. Thank you George Lucas for creating a universe where every name is absolute nonsense.
We can probably move a few books around if someone needs something not available too...just post need in thread. We’re doing very well I think...not as tight as we’ve been, but considering we’re just finishing week 1...awesome!
We can use screenplays, correct? I got the fantastic beasts and where to find them out of my library thinking i could use Queenie but id just like to make sure before starting to read it
Shannon wrote: "We can use screenplays, correct? I got the fantastic beasts and where to find them out of my library thinking i could use Queenie but id just like to make sure before starting to read it"Rules state this: ◈ Books must be at least 160 pages in length. Children's books, Graphic Novels, Scripts/plays (movie and theater), Cookbooks and Poetry books cannot be used unless by word count they can be verified (by arbookfinder.com or arbookfinder.co.uk) as at least 40,000 words or have an audio edition that is at least 5 hours long
Tammie wrote: "Shannon wrote: "We can use screenplays, correct? I got the fantastic beasts and where to find them out of my library thinking i could use Queenie but id just like to make sure before starting to re..."arbookfind is saying only 11,892 words
I just had my kitchen renovated - turned out great! Spent yesterday getting everything back into cabinets and drawers. It was exhausting but I listened to Ape House while doing it. Thanks for the recommendation Faith.
Shannon wrote: "Thanks Ashlee. Dk why it wasnt showing up on my phone lol"No problem. I have that site commonly pulled up to research books for my students. :)
Today's goal is to "finish what I've started." I ended up teaching virtual summer school to 3 individual students. So, that means 3 different novels, on top of what I was reading for myself. With that said, I plan to finish at least 3 and begin Dear Martin.
Hi all, sorry I've been a bit absent, last day of term yesterday so I've been a bit manic trying to get last minute marking/classroom organisation etc done around my last remote lessons. I'm hoping I can get some more reading done now that I'm on the summer holidays though!I've added Spin to the spreadsheet, and my plans for the weekend are to make progress (if not finish!) some of the titles I currently have on the go:
Bernadette wrote: "I just had my kitchen renovated - turned out great! Spent yesterday getting everything back into cabinets and drawers. It was exhausting but I listened to Ape House while doing it. T..."Glad you enjoyed it and woohoo that the kitchen renovation is done!
@Sadie...I moved your Dear Martin to 'Q'I may work on moving a few more books around today just to free up some of the 'easier' spaces. Will try to make a point to note them here.
If you find have a choice of books, pick the one with a 'U' or 'I' availability...we are going to need 6xU and I
We have 2 books that show 'u' as an extra, but both of those books are used for a 'z'. Same situation for 'I'.
Bernadette...I'm likely going to move your Ape House to an 'I' somewhere.
I had my deck & pool area renovated as well. Spending time today cleaning the deck furniture before it gets too hot tomorrow. I expect to have family visitors as "Club Daniel" tomorrow as the call it😂. I'll be listening to The One-in-a-Million Boy while I clean and hope to get through most of it!
Bernadette wrote: "I had my deck & pool area renovated as well. Spending time today cleaning the deck furniture before it gets too hot tomorrow. I expect to have family visitors as "Club Daniel" tomorrow as the call ..."Awesome...wish I had a pool...90s here all week!
I just grabbed a book that will work for U from a used bookstore. Ill start reading it once i finish the book im currently reading
We have 2 U's that are currently posted to be used for Z ... I outlined with yellow on SSSo if you are looking for a U and come across a Z you'd prefer to read, we can change those around.
I need to read Visions of Heat for another challenge. I have Dear Martin but can put that on hold for the next word. Realistically, I probably will only be able to fit one other book in so I can go with Dear Martin or I can read for a letter. I have all of the letters, so it is just matter of picking the one we need most. Are U and I our most needed?
Keli wrote: "I need to read Visions of Heat for another challenge. I have Dear Martin but can put that on hold for the next word. Realistically, I probably will only be able to fit..."Yes, U is probably the most, then I. I’m assuming everyone is reading what’s posted on the SS though.
If everyone can keep checking in this week that would be great.
Ashlee wrote: "I am currently reading a book with a Z character, if you want to move one of the U's."If you could put your Z at line 29 where someone removed a book.
My next book has every letter but U so I can switch out Attack of the Clones for that one, to give us another U, while keeping the Z.
Does someone need to claim the blank P on line 34? Just realized I never claimed a space for the audiobook I'm listening to and it'll work for P (and none of the difficult letters) if it needs to be filled.
Lauren wrote: "Does someone need to claim the blank P on line 34? Just realized I never claimed a space for the audiobook I'm listening to and it'll work for P (and none of the difficult letters) if it needs to b..."If it’s open, take it Lauren
I cleared a couple of common letters...it might be one of those
Tammie wrote: "Lauren wrote: "Does someone need to claim the blank P on line 34? Just realized I never claimed a space for the audiobook I'm listening to and it'll work for P (and none of the difficult letters) i..."Gotcha
Bernadette wrote: "Captains - my next audiobook can be an I, U or Z. Which do you prefer?"We need them all...Bernadette-choice :)
Hey Dear Martin readers...I’ll suggest using 109-espistolary style for your task option...I saw Shannon did this and I freed up an easier task myself. If you want to do this and you book is already recorded, just put a yellow box around it on the SS or note it here so it can be changed on the main
Just finished Sisters of Sword and Song :) away and only got my phone on me so will add it to the spreadsheet tonight when I get home. Now to decide what’s next!
Breaking Point (sorry on the phone) in Line 66 can be a Z. But that leaves an I open. Not sure which is more difficult?
Stacey wrote: "Breaking Point (sorry on the phone) in Line 66 can be a Z. But that leaves an I open. Not sure which is more difficult?"I missed that Idea...I'm going to move BPoint down to the Z and move an 'I' up...thanks Stacey!
Now we just need to focus on only reading for what's open in that last set...if we finish it, we can open another.
Please comment here if you have back ups
Stacey wrote: "Breaking Point (sorry on the phone) in Line 66 can be a Z. But that leaves an I open. Not sure which is more difficult?"Stacey...fyi...'series names' are not part of the spellout...unless I missed an update somewhere. This worked out well.
*****OK everyone...Donna is going to work on adding another word to our SS.
Please realize we won't get points for partial words...so if we can all work to check the SS when trying to decide what to read next, that would be great.
I know I have a back up book that doesn't work for anything currently available...so the extra will be helpful...but we'll need to complete the one above to make the extras count...this is very important. We can only have 1 incomplete phrase :)
Please do take some time now to reconcile the SS and remove books you will for sure not finish. We will start adding more books to the main...probably on Wednesday.
Thanks,
Hi guys. I had to remove one of the I’s i was reading because of how boring it was to me. Its near the top so we can use another I up there. Sorry i wouldve read it if it was only 300 or so pages but its 650 some and i cant find any interest in it
Ashlee wrote: "Name of the series can be counted for the spell it out."I missed that! That is great!
Hey guys, finished From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata for Z.Will start to read Unthinkable by Nina Croft now, for U.
(both books are updated on the spreadsheet).
Hello Team Wizard!
Team Fridge have got snorkelling next round, and I was hoping that you guys would have some recommendations for books meeting the Asia tag! Ideally by indigenous authors - I'm looking to increase the diversity of my reading - but mainly just great books that you loved. Obviously it doesn't have to be books that you've read for the tag, and I'm not expecting you to check if the tag actually exists, but books that ought to meet the Asia tag would be perfect!
Thanks!
Cat
PS I'll stalk your thread for answers, or you could pop over to the Fridge: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
