Angie ☯ | 3110 comments So glad everyone is enjoying it!!

message 352: by [deleted user] (new)

Also on my second book though not very far into it

message 353: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments My bookstore opens to in store traffic next week!!!!!!!!! I am so excited to be able to browse again! While wearing a mask and gloves, of course, but still!!!!!!!

Not sure if I used enough exclamation points there.

I sounds like everyone is enjoying Wheel so far. Yay!
Is there anything that I can do to make it even funner? Is funner a word? Do you guys want to do a buddy read between us at some point? Or do you want to exchange reviews and recommendations? Shall we look for the most absurd titles that fit a task just for the fun of it? Or, are we good as we are? I can keep asking questions, you know. Can't I?

message 354: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 151 comments lol! Im down for whatever. I am actually almost done my fourth book and may try for one more before the week is over. Depending on how my kiddos are. :)

message 355: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Holy crap!
If any of you are Shakespeare fans, quickly go watch this amazing Midsummer Night's Dream from the Globe Theatre.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cAwa...

Not sure how much longer it will be available.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments We had quite the thunderstorm come in yesterday and we lost power for part of the day. It's been so long since we had rain I was just happy to see it! Spreadsheet updated and just checking that we don't need to report books here in the chat - I'm not seeing any on my pass through the conversation but wanted to double check! Almost halfway through Americanah so already making headway - Kartography was good but it was SO SLOW.

message 357: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Americanah is one I keep looking at, but then choose not to pick up. Let me know if it is good please!

You do not need to report here about your books read. Just post here if you go on any more fun tractor rides. teehee

Not this week - but probably soon. I should probably confess over in the Maze Chat too..... :)

I'm really enjoying Americanah a lot!

message 359: by [deleted user] (new)

I believe I have that book Americanah in my room right now. Perhaps buddy read down the line will get me to read it

message 360: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I wouldn't mind that at all. Anyone else up for reading Americanah?
Or are there any other books that any of you might want to nominate for an in house buddy read?

message 361: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I'll add that to my TBR read. I'm always up for a buddy read.

message 362: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Finished my third book and on to my fourth today. Upped my goal to six total for this round. We'll see... haha

message 363: by [deleted user] (new)

any idea what the next word is yet? I believe last week ended a few days ago

message 364: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 21, 2020 03:45PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments The rounds 2 weeks each. Round 1 will end on June 26 and Round 2 will begin.

Here is the countdown clock - Jenny has it posted it in Post #5 also....

Countdown to end of Round 1 and start of Round 2: June 26 ~ 10pm UK

We have a little under 5 days left in this round. Please try to post your completed books a few hours prior to the official end, so that Jenny and I have time to verify and turn everything in.

message 365: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments How is everyone doing with reading/books? Think you will finish everything this round? If not, just let us know which ones you might not fit in and if possible, I'll read for some of those letters.

message 366: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 152 comments I’m not sure if I will be able to finish the nightingale that i signed up for letter k since I’m also trying to read five feet apart

message 367: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry I must have misinterpreted it

message 368: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 771 comments Hi everyone...I’m enjoying the chatter even though I don’t respond to all of it. I will try to do it now!

Slytherpuff, I hope your grandfather is doing better.

I finished book 3 and added it to the spreadsheet.

I have enjoyed all of my books so far! I’m on track to finish Five Feet Apart and am headed to that thread to answer some discussion questions.

I will probably need help with adding it to the spreadsheet but I will try the directions first.

I also would like to participate in the buddy read(s). 🤓 I will see if I can get the book and I’m open to other books as well.

message 369: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Ah. Alissa has been lurking in the background. I thought I felt someone looking over my shoulder while I was typing! Good to know it was a cherished team member, and not an evil clown. Phew.

So, maybe four takers for Americanah as a buddy read at some point.
Alissa, if you have any suggestions for other buddy read books, list a few.
Not just Alissa. Everyone.
I can start...
Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo The Beauty of Your Face by Sahar Mustafah Little Eyes by Samanta Schweblin Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton A Memory Called Empire (Teixcalaan #1) by Arkady Martine .

Any interest in these?

Jenny | 8072 comments Cindy wrote: "I’m not sure if I will be able to finish the nightingale that i signed up for letter k since I’m also trying to read five feet apart"

Don't stress it. If you are unsure bout finishing something, go ahead and take it off the list for this round. You can use it later if you finish it later.
I am reading Five Feet Apart too, and I have not run across a K character yet...

message 371: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Like Jenny said, no reason to stress! I was only asking to see where we could move things around or if there was something that I could read that would help!

This team is great!!! No stressing allowed! :-)

message 372: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "Sorry I must have misinterpreted it"

Cindy, I moved your book down into last spellout that isn't full for this round. If you get to it great, if not also great - we can use it for the next round!

message 374: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 151 comments I added another book so hopefully we can finish off another word.

message 375: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Book four done!

message 376: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Everyone is doing so well!!!!!

A reminder to all-
Take a screenshot of the book page if you are using an MPG that appears towards the bottom of the list. I just lost one I was going to use for A Good Neighborhood. Oh well.

message 377: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I managed to finish another 3 books over the weekend, so have upload others onto the spreadsheet which I will finish before the deadline :) we're doing a great job team!!

message 378: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments I'm definitely loving this challenge! Listened to my first "iffy" book yesterday, The Girl He Used to Know, which had my favorite male narrator, but I was already taking a risk with the description anyways lol. The ending was the best part (not because it was almost over, but because it took a surprising turn for a more contemporary fiction novel).

Anyone else come across some fairly average books in their reading either during the challenge or this year? I've only had a few this year, and only 1 or 2 DNFs but those borderline books are always so hard to decide if I should just stop and move on :)

message 379: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments Is there a better way to add the BOM response links after Day 1? I added Day 1 as a link in the correct cell, but couldn't link Day 2 in that same cell. I just added a column next to it for now for Day 2, just so I could add my link while I remembered, but I wasn't sure where to put other days of the BOM within the one spot placed in the original table.

Thanks!

message 380: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Hi Abbey - we only have to add a link for one day to the BOM. I asked the Mods as I had the same issue! :-)

Super glad you are enjoying this challenge. It is the first time I've particapated and I am loving it too!!

Oh no, don't you hate it when you have that "iffy" book!? I've ahd a few this year, I think it's because I've read based soley on challenge requirements for several this year. I usually finish those because I'm hoping they redeem themselves before they end!

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) Have we changed words? Just wanted to check before I add my books

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Victorian Vickie wrote: "Have we changed words? Just wanted to check before I add my books"

This round ends Friday (June 26) at 5pm EST and the next one begins. We need to have all our books reported as read by 3pm EST at the latest to give Jenny and I time to get everything turned in properly.

Any books started that get started but aren't finished before 5pm EST - can be carried over to the next round - as long as they are finished after 5:01! :-D

message 383: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 22, 2020 10:50PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Abbey - You had two books with the Task as set in England. (Cloche and Dagger and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)

We can each only use a task once, so I changed Harry Potter's taks to Six word title - let me know if you want to switch either of these books to a different task.

I have no sense of direction or places, so I had to lookup Mainland Europe and British Isles for one of my book locations - England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are considered the British Isles. I didn't know there was a distinction...I thought Europe was Europe!

message 384: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I finished You (You, #1) by Caroline Kepnes a couple of days ago, and I can't decide if I liked it or not, the synopsis is brilliant and the idea gives me nightmares but the book was just ok. Although I am still thinking about it so maybe I liked it more that I thought ;/

message 385: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Jade, I had the same reaction to that book. I listened to it on audio, which added another layer of creepy to it, and I can still hear the main character rationalize his actions. So, yeah, it worked.

message 386: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Finished Americanah. I thought it was fantastic! And it's long (but doesn't take nearly as long to read). It's a very flexible book - I think it counts for every letter (BACKPING) so feel free to move it wherever it works best. I started In the Time of Butterflies and should finish that tomorrow and will try and read one more.

Glad it is not just me! oh bet the audio version was creepy. It has definitely lingered with me.....and he gave me Ted Bundy vibes *shivers*

The Netflix show of this is also super creepy.

Celia (cealcrest) When do we get next round’s word and tags so we can plan? :D

Friday I think, when this round ends.

message 391: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments That’s a good question. I’m piggy backing off of it and asking do we have a day gap in between rounds or does the next one start right away. I’m trying to get my books to fall into a nice little puzzle over here.

message 392: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments We will probably get the next word at least a day in advance. Angie or I will let you know when we find out!

message 393: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Sorry, and the next round will start right away.

My bad! Thanks for catching that and swapping one over! I was adding tasks for the books I didn't have one selected and definitely was not looking at my correct column for tasks that were already checked...oops :)

I also wasn't sure about Mainland Europe and British Isles and learned more about it after a google search too :)

message 395: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments So, ask and ye shall receive!
The spreadsheet will be up later, but if you all want to start planning, the next round's word is WHITEWATERRAFTING.

The Genre tags are Fire, Heat, China, Dragon, and Autumn.

I will link up easy searches for these later as well.

That's some letters!! thanks for the update Jenny

message 397: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Jade - I thought the same thing about You!!

Abbey - It's easy to do with that list of tags! I did the same thing with my list! And I have to say, it's nice to know I wasn't the only one who wasn't sure about the Europe/British Isles thing!! :-)

That's quite the word we have for next round!! Lol! I'll get our planning sheet updated today!

message 398: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Second round tags are posted in message five for easy access.

message 399: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Round 2 sheet is now in our Planning/Tracking file - going to add the tags.

(Thanks, Jenny!! I was going to post that I didn't know how you found them and they would be added later!)

message 400: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Wow - that's a lot of repeat letters. But I like the genre tags better this time for sure.
