bamaace83 | 965 comments Yeah, I don't like those either. Nope, not for me. I think it's the same reason. They are just creepy.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be as focused on books as I was previously since my grandpa is now in the hospital

I HATE those damn clowns!!! ;(

Sorry!!! I will keep him and you in my thoughts. Don't worry if you don't meet your planned books, we've all got your back.

Thank you. Hopefully he'll be fine.

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) Just to be clear...when I finish I a book I just list it on the spreadsheet....I don't post it anywhere else

I have read 2 books that I need to post

message 261: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments Yes. Just write it up on the spreadsheet with the task it fits, if any, and any other letters it may work for. Then you are done.

Were your books good?

Yes they were...I just wanted to make sure I do things right.

message 265: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments Angie, I am a couple of hours into listening to The Echo. I am loving this!!!!!!!!!

message 266: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments Is anyone reading The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward for the BOM? If you are interested, it just started. The link is in one of the first messages in this thread. Remember we get extra points for participation!

Anyone read anything worth sharing yet? Or had something wonderful or awful happen over the weekend?

My weekend has been pretty boring. I have run errands and done house cleaning, and not read as much as I wanted to. Kind of hard to vacuum and read at the same time, alas. I have so far been successful in giving myself a break from the news, so if the world ended or something, please let me know. I did watch The Bletchley Circle on Amazon. Good series.

And back to laundry and listening to Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan .

message 267: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I'm planning on reading The Jetsetters. I should be able to start it tomorrow. I've finished two of my books this weekend and need to get everything upgraded. Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption was super good. Growing up in Alabama, I really enjoyed reading this story based on the EJI especially given the times that we are in right now.

message 268: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments I was going to ask what EJI is, and then I read the blurb...and added the book to my TBR list. That does look good.

message 269: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments Jenny - I am so glad!!! For me, it just got better as the story progressed.

message 270: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 14, 2020 06:41PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments I started The Jetsetters this evening! I am going to try to read all of the BOM's. I even volunteered for writing DQs and I've never done that before (volunteered, I mean!) I really like extra points! hehe

message 271: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments Speaking of extra points.....

I want to ask everyone to try to link a task to each book you read.

We each get to use the full list of 200 tasks; some are easy ones and some are obscure. But, for each task we tie to our books we get 5 bonus points. As long as from your list of 200 tasks, you don't use any task # more than once, you can used them for every book.

message 272: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments I plan to read an extra book or two to make up for the points I am not getting for this BOM, and The Sun Down Motel, which I read too recently. But, I plan to read the other two. Some of us are trying to convince the mods to do a backroom BOM as well, and those are usually very silly indeed.

I agree!!!!! And the task list is pretty comprehensive and easy to match books to.

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "I found several tasks my current book can fit"

Awesome, Slytherpuff!! Pick the one that you think would be harder to cover with other books you would read.

message 277: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments Just a reminder - in order for your books to count for points, they must be on your Wheel shelf. Don't forget to link them to the shelf you designated.

Thanks!

message 278: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments For those of you reading The Jetsetters for the BOM, per the mods...

FYI: We will use a standard page count for BOMs for Wheel

The Jetsetters will be 352

Luckily I have been doing this as I go along, just incase we needed the extra point along the line :)

I hope you like Echo! I've read parts of it when I volunteering a classroom at a Ronald McDonald House in undergrad, but didn't have my own copy to finish. So it's been on my list!

Pretty tame weekend for me! Finished two books and started the third. My oldest brother is in town for the week, so we've got my entire family together (during quarantine myself and my younger two siblings in college ended up all back home since March) and I've enjoyed some time out on our deck with my siblings this weekend.

We've had people cleaning our air ducts at my home for the past 5 hours, so my audiobook listening while I work from home as been low since it's so loud. Hoping for some quiet hours soon to listen again!

Hope everyone else is starting off their weeks with some good books!

message 283: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments I have resorted to a comfort book to listen to at work, The Nothing Girl (Frogmorton Farm #1) by Jodi Taylor . I keep getting interrupted, and so I can't concentrate on a new one today. I should check to see if it will count, or when the last time i read it! Either way, it is giving me smiles.

Abbey, that does sound lovely. I would love to spend some porch time with my family, but half is in Wisconsin, half in Colorado, and me in Arizona makes it a bit hard.

message 286: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Well two "Trippy" books in a row was a bit much, so I'm taking a break with the "Crazy" Bird Box. It's turned out to be a great choice so far lol

Last night I had to be careful about where in the story I stopped before bed... I was getting the heebie jeebies lol

message 287: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments I keep meaning to read that one. Creepy can be very fun.

message 288: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments Woohoo! I get to use the comfort food book that I listened to today for the challenge!!!! I thought I had listened to it more recently than 2 years ago, but if I did, I did not record that fact. Not like me, so, yay!!!!!

message 289: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments And, my hallucinogenic books showed up today from Amazon. Yay again!
Can you all tell I am happy to be off work?

message 290: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments And, may I say a big CONGRATS to all of my LBTGQ (etc, etc) friends who won workplace protections from the Supreme Court today!!!!!! (and a big f- you to Kavanaugh, Alito and Thomas, who think discrimination is just fine, thank you very much).

I must say I was very happily surprised by the 6-3 ruling. There is still hope for the world.

message 291: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I read some of their dissenting opinions though and they aren’t based on supporting discrimination. Their votes had to do with the function of the branches of government. Congress is the legislative branch and it’s the Congress’s job to pass laws. It’s the judicial branch/Supreme Court’s role to interpret the laws. Those 3 don’t agree with discrimination, they just think the law that was under review did not apply and that Congress should have done its job and passed a new law instead.

message 292: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments I stand corrected. I was being reactionary instead of informed. Sorry.
I'll go read the dissenting opinions. I must say that I have almost never agreed with an opinion of Thomas's or Alito's, so I judged.

Wouldn't it be nice if congress did its job more often? Taking back the war powers, for instance?

Back to my book! Leave politics alone, Jenny, this is not the forum!!!!! (I have to keep reminding myself of that). Teehee

message 293: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Haha no worries. It’s difficult to even reach an informed opinion on anything these days when it seems like so many articles are one-sided...

Day off tomorrow so I’ll be finishing book three and on to book four!

message 294: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments Just finished listening to the last few minutes of my audio book, and reading the last few pages of my other book. I should be sleeping. I am smart.

message 295: by bamaace83 (last edited Jun 16, 2020 05:31AM) (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I finished Jetsetters this morning and now just need the questions to catch up with me. I liked the story. It was a fast read and I liked learning about all the characters. On to book 4!

I'm so not good with hyperlinks. I have posted my responses for day one and two questions but I just don't know how to put that in the fancy spreadsheet.

message 296: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8068 comments Anna, to link to a certain message, like if I want to link to your message #295 above, do the following-
Look to the right of the banner for the message where it says "45 minutes ago", and hit control while you click on it, click on "Copy link". Highlight the spreadsheet cell you want to copy the link in, and hit command v to copy it.
I assume that a PC is the same as my Mac, but I do not know how to do it on a phone.

Or, just tell us here where to find your answers, and one of us can do it. : )

On an iPhone browser (not the app), press and hold the time stamp and a menu will pop up with the option to copy the link. Likely the same on Android.

message 298: by [deleted user] (new)

I also have trouble with hyperlinks

message 299: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Yeah, special one here. I got one hyperlink in there but when I tried to rename it and stuff it went away. I promise I do use spreadsheets at work but you wouldn't know it with my struggles over here. Message 137 and Message 142. I haven't done day 3 yet.

message 300: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments I can add the links as long as you let me know in a post what needs to be on the spreadsheet. Just copy the URL and paste it in a post...just be sure to give me the info that you want linked. (like DQ - Day 1....etc)

I'm also checking the links to books on your Wheel Shelves - so make sure your books are there and I'll take care of those links too, if you are having trouble.
