Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Jenny - I think everyone should read Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan , it is totally NOT my normal read, but it was amazing. I laughed, I cried, I got mad...only one more word about it - AUDIOBOOK!!

message 202: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I just bought the audiobook. Looking forward to it!

message 203: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments I really hope you like it. (If not and it's audible, you can return it!)

message 204: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I don't think I have ever returned a book to audible. It never occurs to me. I should consider it, as sometimes the narration kills the book. Or, the book is just bad. But, usually they are worth listening to.

message 205: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 10, 2020 08:33PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments I have returned a couple, very make it very simple to do.

message 206: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Oh man, I was restraining myself, but since you asked so nicely for more recommendations... XD

Here are a couple lesser known books that I really love:

The Strangeness of Beauty by Lydia Minatoya The Winter Prince (The Lion Hunters, #1) by Elizabeth Wein

The Strangeness of Beauty was a book I had to read for a class and absolutely loved. The writing is so good. The setting in WW2 era Japan is fascinating (no POWs, not that kind of story). Bought the book for a class. Kept it. 621 ratings.

The Winter Prince was actually the first Elizabeth Wein book I read *before* she got famous for Code Name Verity. (Yes, I'm definitely liked-her-before-she-was-cool bragging over here.) It is an intense Arthurian retelling. The sequels were meh, I'll be honest. But this first one... I had to buy it. It's that good. 1408 ratings.

I put Echo on my TBR, Angie. And I just downloaded the audiobook from my library. All queued for opening challenge day.

message 207: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Pusher. Look at you. The Winter Prince is free on KU, so I just downloaded that one, and I added the paperback of the strangeness to my amazon cart.
Thank you in advance...

one more day until this starts.

I'm finishing up my last book beforehand

message 211: by [deleted user] (new)

sorry for all the questions. I was planning on adding my first book to the spreadsheet but it shows no books on it and says view only. Is there a different spreadsheet or are mods only allowed to do it?

message 212: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments The sheet for us to plan/track all our books is linked in Post #8....is that the one you used?

Here is the link as well - Watership Down ~ Tracking Spreadsheet

message 213: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (louloo) | 140 comments Evening everyone!

I’m excited about starting the challenge tomorrow. Tonight will be spent finishing my current book ready!

message 214: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I have one I am going to finish tonight or in the morning. Then the pile of books I have set aside for round 1 can stop staring at me.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Is there a countdown clock I have missed - same with the word wheels? I looked the other day but was on my phone so I totally could have missed these.

message 217: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Yeah, it is hidden really well in the All about Wheelathon post #4 as a clock. I had to ask, and then I felt really stupid. I kept looking for a link in the text, not for something that obvious. Lesson learned. They will screw with me in a different way next time! Here it is...

https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

message 218: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Don't feel bad, Jenny! I couldn't find it either and I knew I had seen it! Lol!! I actually made one to post and my internet went down while it was in the midst of posting. Crazy day again!

message 219: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Yup, I got to work three hours early, and still didn't get as much done as I needed to. Another long day tomorrow! But, I will be listening to a new books as well. Makes for a good Friday.

message 227: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I am also ready to go, finished my other books just in time :)

message 228: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I just paged through the book I plan to start with this afternoon, looking for names to jump out at me, (for letters), and there is an evil clown in it!!!!!! That jumped off the page. At me. Right at me. Not sure if I really want to start this book now...

message 229: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments And we have begun!!!!

Everyone our a glass of something wonderful, tell you families to solve their own problems for a while, and dive in!

Starting an audiobook at work...

message 230: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Did you toss out the clown book, Jenny?

message 231: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments No, I am going to give it a go. I may wake up screaming, but, I am in the mood for a bit of non-real-life horror right now. Teehee.

message 232: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments You're my hero!

message 233: by [deleted user] (new)

When the isbn of my book matches but not pages in book or type of copy it's kind of annoying

The book is 518 says I think 2 maybe 300 hundred something and is soft cover not hard cover

message 234: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Weird. Time to ask a librarian with that one. Out of curiosity, what is the book?

message 235: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) First book down! Invisible Cities And it was definitely trippy lol

message 236: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Ooh! I have read If on a Winter's Night a Traveler, and Cosmicomics by Calvino, but not that one. Should I?

message 237: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I really enjoyed his writing because his imagery is so strong. If that's what you like about his other books, then yes. I would say he kind of has a nihilistic/fatalistic philosophy that bubbles up now and then... and I didn't like that aspect of it.

message 238: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm a librarian so that's good but a two to three hundred page difference is making me hesitate

It's abhorsen by Garth nix

My edition is 518 pages

And when I type in 0-06-027825 it shows up a lot shorter

message 239: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I always look through the editions for one that matches page numbers and publisher before I change anything. I’d hate to lose my librarian privileges...

message 240: by [deleted user] (new)

Weirdly enough I found the edition I have however the isbns don't match for some weird reason.

Realized I messed initial isbn up In prior post

Maybe it's because I bought the boxed set

message 241: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments So. A couple of numbers out of order and you made your brain hurt. I'm glad you sorted it out!

message 242: by [deleted user] (new)

The thing is completely different isbn numbers. Although they don't match I'd rather use the accurate page count one. Cover looks the same pages are the same and I believe it's the same editor

message 243: by [deleted user] (new)

Edition

message 244: by [deleted user] (new)

Perfect think the issue was book had like three separate isbns

message 245: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Well. My first book was pretty good, not great. I kind of hate books that have so much promise and then just trail off into ridiculousness.

At least I shouldn't have horrible dreams about the clown.

message 246: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Sad that your book wasn't great - but bonus that it won't cause bad clown related dreams!

My book was definitely "delusional"....even made me question what was real in the story an what was made up! Lol!

message 247: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments That sounds fun. If it was done well, then bravo on making you question reality.

How is everyone's first 16 hours of the challenge? Deep into your fourth book already? Not started a one? A new to you author that is now a favorite?

I am deciding whether to continue with The Mechanical audio that I started yesterday afternoon, and had to keep restarting due to work interruptions, or try Echo, because my curiosity is piqued by it. Ah, lovely decisions.

message 248: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I set up links to the other teams' recommendations on message 6 of this thread if you guys want to easily find some new books to try.

message 249: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I got delayed with my reading last night so I'm about to finish my first book today and starting the second. Good thing those clowns didn't keep you up! I hate clowns. I probably would've dropped the book and had to come back to it later this week.

message 250: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Oh, I agree with you. Clowns are evil, wrong and just shouldn't exist.
I have not idea why they scare me so much, but wow do they.

Also ventriloquist dummies, and most dolls. Something about being almost, but not quite human maybe? Shiver.
