Nice, Anna. Keep checking the list, I will add to it as we get more.

message 153: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 151 comments For the tagged books, does it have to be just crazy or can there be a word after it?

message 154: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I think it has to be exact (or plural/singular). What is the tag you are wondering about?

message 155: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 771 comments I loved Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel now I have to add her new book to my list. 🤓

My recommendations are To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee , American Gods (American Gods, #1) by Neil Gaiman , and A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

I just discovered Penelope Douglas Corrupt (Devil's Night, #1) by Penelope Douglas and Tessa Bailey Fix Her Up (Hot & Hammered, #1) by Tessa Bailey so if anyone is looking for hot steamy slightly dark romance.

I will have to think about some more.

message 156: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Yours are on the list, and I added a couple as well. Hard to stop.

message 157: by [deleted user] (new)

Agreed I'll prob have 50 more recommendations within the week

I'm reading Lirael right now

message 158: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I will have to check out these lists tomorrow! And add some. I am going to be sitting in a combine all day harvesting wheat (this is what happens when you end up dating a farmer). This city girl has no clue about what is going to happen!

message 159: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Can we start calling you Farmer Kate?
Is it a big combine? Those things are cool. I drove a tractor once, but not one of the big ones. Have fun with it!

message 160: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I will have to let you know! I haven’t been in it yet. Even though I have lived in Oklahoma my whole life I have never been on one before. I really do like my farmer though! 😂😇

message 161: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I am really happy for you Kate!!!!!!!! And wear a mask. That wheat gets in the air.

message 162: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Hi everyone!
It's been a crazy day for me, but I did venture out to all the teams and invite them to have a look at our recommendations, or come by anytime with specific requests and to let us know if they read something we recommended.

Wow, Kate, I'm impressed! I hope you enjoy the experience!!

message 163: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Thanks Angie! I hope you had a fun trip.

message 164: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments It was fun! I love a good road trip! :-)

message 165: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I think this team is going to kick ass and take names. We already have 3 full words planned out, and 9 of the 10 genre tags claimed.
And, not even every team member has put any books on the spreadsheet yet! This is going to be fun.

message 166: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I just went ahead and added more books to the next word open. Is this what we are reading for 2 weeks? If it's one week I better stop searching books if it's two weeks then I can find a couple more.

message 167: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments It's two weeks. Keep adding!

message 168: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Cool, thanks! I'm trying to balance shorter, medium, and a couple long books so I don't get myself in a situation where I picked all 400 plus page books and am like oh crap what did I just do to myself!?!

I am not really a planner, I have two kindles both with over 2000 books on them so usually have something that fits ;)

Can you send me the link to the spreadsheet? the one I get is view only (I have asked for editing permission) but I can't seem any entries. Thanks

message 170: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Alright, I'm up to 6 pre-planned and then I'll have a few more during those two weeks but don't want to get to far ahead in case one of my other many challenges that I seem to get involved in needs a book that doesn't fit one of those.

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments Jenny wrote: "It's two weeks. Keep adding!"

I forgot it was two weeks (by that I mean I briefly forgot what a fortnight meant), and will likely end up with a few more that I may add on during the first week as it progresses. My monthly number may end up being a low estimate, since I averaged based on entire year so far, when I probably should have estimated my pandemic numbers only lol. Since being back at my parents house, I work with some data entry that allows a lot of audiobook time, so my numbers have increased a bit since March.

Deanna | 3534 comments Hey Watership Down!

We've begun packing book recommendations in preparation for our Odyssey and will continue updating the list throughout the challenge.

Book Recommendations from Team Odyssey

Happy reading!

message 174: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Between us we have claimed about 40 books per week for reading when we signed up, so 80 per two week round. So, we have already claimed slightly less than half of that.

There are no penalties for reading more or less than what you thought you would for the challenge. But we will see how competitive we are as a team. More pages equals more points, and the task bonuses give us extra points. Almost all of the books on the spreadsheet have tasks attached. So, my guess is that we may be a bit competitive.

Have fun planning, have fun not planning. Either is good.

message 176: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Us being competitive, who would have thought? I'm still recovering from being knocked off my broom and holding on for dear life as things were thrown at my head on Saturday. I know that I'll have a few more books to add to the mix.

message 177: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Helmets. Big fluffy hats. These are important for beaters. And Chasers. I got knocked off of my broom quite a bit as well. I'm picturing the hat equivalent of bunny slippers for the next match.

I see that Jenny sent you the link - it's posted in message 8 too, but I didn't get a request for access....that's weird ... but it's setup for anyone with the link to have access.

message 179: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Lol - competitive....us??

I will read for whatever needs filled in - I don't plan. When I do, I read something different! Lol!!

message 180: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I'm a wee bit competitive. I'm going all in on this with all my reading for the next ten weeks (except for a tiny bit of studying heh heh) dictated by the spell-it-out, tags, and tasks :D

Is it ten tags per person per round or ten tags per team per round? If it's team, that's going to give me a lot more options lol

message 181: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Ten tags per team per round.
I assume that the tasks list lasts (say that three times fast) for the whole challenge, so if you are marrying tasks to your books, try to get the harder ones out of the way first, and save things like "3 word title" for the last round.

message 182: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) What do you seasoned challengers consider the “harder” tasks?

I'm assuming that at the end of the 2 week period, the tasks attached to the books are "locked" in, correct? I know you can't "bank" books, but wasn't sure I read anything correctly on the tags, but assumed they stayed attach to the book submitted.

Thanks for answering questions so well, you guys rock!

message 184: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) So I have not started planning yet... where would you like me to pick books? Spell out, tasks or the tags.
I will happily read where y’all direct me

message 185: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 152 comments I know Angie I’m the same way with planning. That’s the reason I only listed one book on the spreadsheet because if I plan I always end up reading differently.

message 186: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Celia wrote: "What do you seasoned challengers consider the “harder” tasks?"

Chipmunk on cover, set in a pacific island, MPG Chick lit, stuff like that. I think I mean hard for you. So if you don't tend to read Horror, and one of your books works for it, use that before you use Blue cover.

message 187: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Abbey, yes I think the task list lasts the whole challenge, so if you use a book for a task this round that task is done for the challenge. The tags will change with each round.

message 188: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Victorian Vickie wrote: "So I have not started planning yet... where would you like me to pick books? Spell out, tasks or the tags.

If you want to plan out books, then the main thing is to find which letter it will work for. Then, you can see if it fits one of the tasks as well. It does not have to. It looks like the 10 genre tags for the round have been claimed, but don't hesitate to add more in case someone can't finish a book or changes their mind.

And, if you just want to add books as you have read them, that is totally fine! You do not have to plan anything.

message 189: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 09, 2020 02:12PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments I would just like to add these thoughts.

Tasks are definitely not required for any of the books in the Spell-out, however, if you can find a task the book fits I encourage you to add it to the sheet as well, because each task earns us 5 extra points for each book. Since we each have the full list of 200 to use, I doubt that we will use them all!

For Tags we can only use 10 per round, so if you find one by all means make a note of it, but don't seek those out especially if we have 10 listed already.

That't the competitive nature in me taking over! :-P

message 190: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments You all have been busy! I have been sitting in a combine all day and not doing any reading but having a blast! And thanks Jenny! If you had told me six months ago this would be in my future I would have been shocked. But I am really happy.

Hi everyone!

I've ventured out from Middle Earth to invite you all round whenever you would like. It's never more than 5 minutes from a meal (speaking of which is it time for lunch yet...).

We've got a lovely selection of recommendations here to tempt you all and would love it if you stick around to tell us what you thought.

message 194: by [deleted user] (new)

Once I'm on computer too many books to add to my to read list

message 195: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Right? I have just glanced at some of the other teams choices, and my TBR is about to get much bigger. Oh well. There are worse things in this world!

message 196: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 10, 2020 07:30PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Okay team, I'm taking some time away from work (before it kills me or I kill someone) to post my recommendations for you. I try to go with lesser known books that I enjoyed.

Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan ~ I highly recommend the audio to get the full effect of the story.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Stillhouse Lake (Stillhouse Lake, #1) by Rachel Caine Bluff by Michael Kardos

message 197: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Angie, what is going on? Work is kicking my butt too! Shall we run away together and join the circus?

message 198: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Never mind. I am afraid of clowns.

message 199: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I am going to bug you guys with a recommendation, as I just found out that this author's next book is coming out soon. If you have not read The Summer that Melted Everything The Summer that Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel , then seriously think about giving it a try. Some of the most beautiful prose I have read, and a really good story.

And, I want you all to please recommend books that you NEED others to read. I am willing to try almost anything.
