Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) I have a question about the letter x in exercise. Does the item have to start with it Like Xmas. Or can it just be in it like Max

message 1005: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Has to start with the letter. If you do audio, there is a narrator who reads a lot of books whose name is Xe.

message 1006: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments It looks like we came in 4th in points for the round and dropped down to 3rd overall.

Our points for Round 4 - 4,991
Total points for Wheel - 19,797

Another EXCELLENT round! Great job, everyone!!

message 1007: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments This officially starts our last round. Happy Reading!

message 1008: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Yeah, those pesky hobbits read about 10,000 more pages than we did this round. But, we are only a few hundred points away from first place. Just saying.

We rock.

message 1009: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I'm planning on hopefully reading some bigger books in the next two weeks so we can get some more points. I'll admit I was steadily rolling through some 200 page books because of the Olympics but I think I'm back in the 300-400 page range, or close to it. Now, my biggest obstacle is finding a 7, 8 or 9 in the page numbers because of turf wars. I know I'm rambling but I keep reminding myself you love challenges, you love puzzles, and then the other part of me is saying where's the wine because you're going to need it to figure all this mess out.

message 1010: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments You tagged it exactly, Anna! I'm in the same spot!!

message 1011: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I just got home, and am pouring a glass of wine, and about to decide what to read next. A nice chore.
A large stack of new books is staring at me, all of them saying "ME NEXT!!!!!!"

Sit.

Stay.

That worked when I had a dog. Not so much with kitties or books. Oh well.

message 1012: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I just got my hands on Midnight Sun (Twilight, #5) by Stephenie Meyer which is a whopping 752 pages....I have been waiting for this book for an age but so far it is just very repetitive ;(

message 1013: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) The Memory of Light by Francisco X. Stork
Author Francisco X. Stork

Not sure if this would work for X but it is a great book

message 1014: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Vickie, that x won't work- first and last name only for authors. Too bad. I will go look at the book now though, so there is that.

Jade, let me know if the Edward version is worth it please. I liked Twilight, even though admitting that is like saying I am a fan of American Idol. Ok, I sort of like Am. Idol too. teehee

message 1015: by Jade aka MrsTosh (last edited Aug 10, 2020 09:18AM) (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments Will do! I am hoping it is, I fell madly into the Bella and Edward trap back in the day. And Americal Idol, so much better than out English version, but that's possible because I can't stand Simon Cowell. I still watch Joshua Ladette on youtube, I loved that dude!!

Jenny | 8072 comments Nice table! And even nicer kitty-cat!
Enjoy your day with your book. I do hope it is good.

message 1018: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments All I saw was the G'n'T! But now that Jenny mentioned I do see other things.... hahah!

message 1019: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I have looked through the tags lists, and I have a bunch of books that I will read in the last week to cover that tags we need. I just haven't put everything on the spreadsheet yet, as I want to look through the books to see if there are any I, E, or X characters.
I don't like the word we have- it is so limiting! I am trying very hard to not use all of the consonants. I was able to move one book from a C to an I, when I remembered that one of the characters was Irena!

I was thinking of rereading The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and there are no characters that fit. None. It couldn't be "exercising" instead?

I am considering tackling Infinite Jest. Have any of you read it?

message 1020: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments A lot of what I'm reading this week has E characters or authors. I haven't checked tags yet.

Thanks ladies.....making the most of the weather. We had horrendous thunderstorms all night so it is slightly overcast today but very muggy. Should have this one finished tonight. Also started reading The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix it is hilarious!

message 1022: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I have 4 books lined up that will work for E but may also work for others. I haven't gotten that far to see if the pesky X is in them or not. I have 2 books before them and then I'll get to them. I'll also update my Pachinko questions either tonight or tomorrow.

message 1023: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I finished Pachinko, and I must say I didn't love it. If I get to it, I will answer the last three days of questions, but right now, I have finished the required three.

I am prepared to binge read some Xarissa cozy mysteries if we need X books at the end. We should be fine. I have read her alphabet series, which are too short for NBRC, but her Aunt Bessie books look like good silly fun.

Yes, I agree, I can't say I loved it but I didn't think it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I only answered the first 3 days I lost interest after that.

Oh, it has a tag of horror, but it so funny. Some of the characters are hilarious and I keep laughing out loud much whilst listening to the audiobook. There are other parts which aren't very nice.

message 1025: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments I'm going to start Pachinko soon. I will admit that I have been putting it off because I was afraid I'd hate it. Thanks for the posts, Jenny and Jade!

I've definitely found this round's word super limiting, which has been a bummer! I had a few books that needed to go back to the library and somehow none of them had characters (or titles) that fit into the word. Argh.

message 1027: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I know. I wish we had ended on a really long word. Alas.
trying to make books fit here and with Turf is proving a bit of a challenge as well.
At least I get to home soon and have a nice glass of wine. And perhaps dinner.

message 1028: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Y'all better double check my MPG family quick. It's like the last one there and I'm running out of tasks. I may have to have a couple books that don't have tasks assigned. I'm trying to get things to all play well together but the Olympics is messing me up over here.

message 1029: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Let's try this over here. Do y'all think this is a black cover?

Flat-Out Sexy (Fast Track, #1) by Erin McCarthy

message 1030: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I just checked TinEye, and yes, black. I will go confirm your Family tag.

message 1031: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Done. You are good.

message 1032: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Thanks! I've been reading like crazy since I got home to finish a couple books so now I'm going to find some wine and watch a little Netflix.

Salt by Helen Laycock
This may fall off soon, and I want to use it for the task.

message 1041: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Also, check Betty by Tiffany McDaniel for MPG Contemporary please!

message 1042: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3107 comments Both verified, Jenny

And word count on Salt is 62,138

message 1043: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments Happy Friday everyone!

I totally thought our round ended today and I panicked...only to realize we've got another week :) Booyah. I also finished the BOM Spin the Dawn today, so I'll get those discussion questions for some points (especially since I've struggled to find books that work for this word).

message 1044: by Angie ☯ (new)

I thought the same thing and also did a little panicking! :-)

Thanks for doing the BOM questions!

How did you find it? I have it ready to start. Seen some very mixed reviews so far, not really my thing but thought I would try and get some extra points for our awesome team ;)

Jenny | 8072 comments Angie ☯ wrote: "Both verified, Jenny

Thank you!!!!!
I added an insane number of books to the spreadsheet yesterday, all E books and I books except for one, I think, and I totally forgot about the BOM coming up. At least it is a reread for me.

We'll see if I can pull it off. A lot of audiobook rereads while working, and some potential masterpieces from KU.
End with a bang, right?

Jade, I like Spin the Dawn. It is a "root for the underdog" story, with an interesting world around it.

message 1047: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I just had a panic fit too thinking I never answered Pachinko questions! It's been a crazy work week so I just haven't had time to sit down to answer those.

message 1049: by Jenny (new)

Well, she is part fish, so sure.
