Hello, I'm Celia from Oregon. This is my first reading challenge of any kind ever. Glad I'm not the only person on this team that's new-ish :)

My favorite genres are classics, dystopian/post-apocalyptic, suspense, high fantasy, science fiction, graphic design/art history, and history. I don't care for mysteries, romance, or YA in general.

I have a lot of books I'm raring to read that should fit the tasks nicely.

Hello all! I finally found my team forum! I tried to log on yesterday but Goodreads was being glitchy and wouldn't load anything. I'm Letitia from PA. I am currently a Pre-K counts teacher although I am hoping to teach in a school district in the fall now that I have my masters in special education. I have three boys (8, 3, and 11 months). I love reading anything with romance or adventure. I like to mix it up. This is my first time playing. I am sure I will be asking questions as it goes on but I am excited to start this game!

So starting June 12 we want to read a book with the title, author, series, or character that forms the words backpacking and if it has the tags as well you get extra points?

Letitia, yes a book that in round 1's case uses a letter from backpacking. If the book also has one of the tags listed, and/or fulfills a task from the list of tasks, then it gets extra points.

I'm working on a tracking spreadsheet for us to use so we can list the options for our books in the current round - but don't worry, it won't be complicated and will be on one sheet. I've also sorted the tasks by type/category to make it easier to find one that works.

It’s a fun challenge and I like it. Whew this broom has a mind of its own though. I think we’ve made it then boom the quaffle is broken and down we all go. I’m taking a mini break and going to venture out to a real restaurant. I’ll be back and hopefully my broom becomes supercharged.

Will someone please explain this bonus?

I understand we need to spell our word. But I do not get how this bonus works:

“ ◈ The team will get an extra 15 completion points if all the letters in the word are part of their spell-it-out”

And I did go ahead and post my recs in the Round Ireland with a Fridge team’s thread. :)

The first time we spell out BACKPACKING we get 15 points. The next time we spell it out we do not get extra points.

Hey Celia,
We can spell out our word as many times as we can during the 2 week round. The first time we completely spell out the word, we get that completion bonus - but only on the first time the word is completed.

Quidditch is over. Jenny's team won. My team had some troubling times flying those brooms in the sky but I think near the end we were learning how to maneuver them so we will be ready for a repeat after wheel. It's been a crazy reading day so I'll catch up here tomorrow. :)

Now that the gang's all here, I've posted a working/tracking spreadsheet in Post #8.

Everyone can do any of the tasks, but can only do each one one time throughout the entire challenge, so everyone has a column on the task tab and we can check/mark the ones that are used. Also, I sorted the tasks by type on one sheet to make it easier to see search.

Let me know if you have any questions. I think everyone will be able to edit - if not, let me know.

Angie, I love the way you sorted the tasks. That makes things sooooo much easier!

The fact that our team is all here and checked in is fabulous. That bodes well for us.
Take the week to start searching your shelves for books that fit. tasks that you want to search for, tagged books that you want to try. Have fun with it.

I actually started looking through the genre tags that I linked above, and ordered a book that I didn't even know existed from one of my favorite authors. Out of print paperback on its way to me as we speak. An Infinite Summer, from the guy that wrote The Prestige. So, I found one for hallucinogenic already!

I am so not a planner! Lol!! I will however choose one letter and find a book for it....then I will just read for what we need.

I encourage everyone to pick one letter / book as we all have to read at least one book every round.

If you are a planner - pick a letter in the first word layout and then pick as many more as you want to read in the other word layouts. That will help us "non-planners" choose our books to complete the most words!

Oh, I see what I did!!! I added that page after I created the file - so it was showing view only for everyone. That page probably wouldn't have mattered, since it is just to help us find things.....but, it's should not say view only now.
