bamaace83 | 965 comments I am a chaser on the other team. Good luck Jenny! I’m thinking I may have jumped in the deep end without a life jacket as a backup but we will see what happens.

Jenny | 8072 comments It is so much fun!!!!!
If you haven't done it before, it will take just a minute to figure it all out, and then the crazy takes over!

message 53: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments And good luck to you too!

message 54: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Oh my - I'll just have to cheer for both of you and not be for either team then!

Good luck, Anna!

message 55: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Quidditch is fun but oh is it intense! Good luck you two!

message 56: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Hello, I'm Celia from Oregon. This is my first reading challenge of any kind ever. Glad I'm not the only person on this team that's new-ish :)

My favorite genres are classics, dystopian/post-apocalyptic, suspense, high fantasy, science fiction, graphic design/art history, and history. I don't care for mysteries, romance, or YA in general.

I have a lot of books I'm raring to read that should fit the tasks nicely.

Looking forward to it! Cheers

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Hi Celia! How exciting to have you as part of our team for your maiden voyage into the land of reading challenges! What a perfect challenge to start it off, since it's a road trip theme!

I hope you have lots of fun....but if you're like the rest of us, you will probably get addicted to the challenge thing!

message 58: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 151 comments Hello all! I finally found my team forum! I tried to log on yesterday but Goodreads was being glitchy and wouldn't load anything. I'm Letitia from PA. I am currently a Pre-K counts teacher although I am hoping to teach in a school district in the fall now that I have my masters in special education. I have three boys (8, 3, and 11 months). I love reading anything with romance or adventure. I like to mix it up. This is my first time playing. I am sure I will be asking questions as it goes on but I am excited to start this game!

message 59: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 151 comments So starting June 12 we want to read a book with the title, author, series, or character that forms the words backpacking and if it has the tags as well you get extra points?

message 60: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Hello, and welcome Letitia and Celia!

Letitia, yes a book that in round 1's case uses a letter from backpacking. If the book also has one of the tags listed, and/or fulfills a task from the list of tasks, then it gets extra points.

...runs back to the quidditch pitch...

message 61: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Hi Letitia!
We have several first time Wheel players, so don't feel alone! I haven't played this game before either! I hope you have fun playing! Ask anything you want!

message 62: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments I'm working on a tracking spreadsheet for us to use so we can list the options for our books in the current round - but don't worry, it won't be complicated and will be on one sheet. I've also sorted the tasks by type/category to make it easier to find one that works.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5960 comments I have popped over with my fridge from Ireland to ask for recommendations from you lovely people I like literary fiction / mystery thrillers and historical but am happy to consider anything I have looked at Aiswyra's list but it is too far off my beaten

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) I am here!! Sorry I am late

message 65: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) I am from NWA and finally on summer break! Having to learn how to virtual teach Algebra and English for the last 3 months of school was interesting.
I am in a couple team challenges in other groups so I am reading a variety of books right now!
I have 4 fur children who are the light of my life and I guess I should include hubby in that description also!
This is my first wheel challenge

message 66: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Hi Vickie,
Welcome to our roadtrip lounge! Lol! I bet switching to virtual teaching was a bit challenging!

You aren't late at all!! The challenge itself doesn't start until June 12th. We are just hanging out and getting to know each other a bit.

Looking forward to 'traveling' with you!

message 67: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Hi Marie,

Here are 5 of my favorite books along the genres you listed that I don't see on your read shelf already:

Far From the Madding Crowd
Code Name Verity
West with the Night
HHhH
The Glass Hotel

Hopefully I did that right. I'm a challenge newbie :P

Thank you for the recommendations! :)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Jenny's team is beating us up and I can't stay on my broom. I'm here but this isn't going well.....who knew reading and broom flying would be so difficult!

message 69: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Are you at least having fun?
I tried to have my team's name be My Broom Chafes. Sadly, it came in third in the voting.

message 70: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments bamaace83 wrote: "Jenny's team is beating us up and I can't stay on my broom. I'm here but this isn't going well.....who knew reading and broom flying would be so difficult!"

Oh no, Anna! We're going to have to put you two on separate sides of the road trip vehicle. Hang on to that broom!! Good luck!

message 71: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Angie ☯ wrote: "Celia - I'm going to put a link to your recommendations in Marie's team thread too. :-)"

Oh okay, I'll do that next time. Thank you! :)

message 72: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments It’s a fun challenge and I like it. Whew this broom has a mind of its own though. I think we’ve made it then boom the quaffle is broken and down we all go. I’m taking a mini break and going to venture out to a real restaurant. I’ll be back and hopefully my broom becomes supercharged.

message 73: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 06, 2020 03:26PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Oops, I deleted that post instead of editing it!! Lol

Celia - You can make a copy of your post and post it on the Around Ireland with a Fridge team thread. If you'd like, if not, I'll make one.

I just didn't know if Marie would venture back over this way to see your recommendations.

message 74: by Celia (last edited Jun 06, 2020 08:06PM) (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Will someone please explain this bonus?

I understand we need to spell our word. But I do not get how this bonus works:

“ ◈ The team will get an extra 15 completion points if all the letters in the word are part of their spell-it-out”

And I did go ahead and post my recs in the Round Ireland with a Fridge team’s thread. :)

message 75: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments The first time we spell out BACKPACKING we get 15 points. The next time we spell it out we do not get extra points.

message 76: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 06, 2020 08:08PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Hey Celia,
We can spell out our word as many times as we can during the 2 week round. The first time we completely spell out the word, we get that completion bonus - but only on the first time the word is completed.

Does that help?

message 77: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Ohh okay, yes. Thank you both! :)

message 78: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Jinx.

message 79: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Too funny! Are you finished with the Quidditch match this weekend?

message 80: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I think it will be over soon. I am reading about a witch right now, and a talking cat. Cute book.

message 81: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Quidditch is over. Jenny's team won. My team had some troubling times flying those brooms in the sky but I think near the end we were learning how to maneuver them so we will be ready for a repeat after wheel. It's been a crazy reading day so I'll catch up here tomorrow. :)

message 82: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I'm glad you had fun, and I am even more glad you may be up for another match someday!!!!

I am a little glad it ended tonight, so I can get stuff done tomorrow.

Sleep well!

thanks Celia and thanks for dropping into Ireland's Fridge

message 86: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Thanks for the link, Jade! Now our team shelves are complete.

Angie has been working on the team tracking spreadsheet, which will linked here soon. Then you all can start grabbing letters and planning out your books. If you are planners. teehee

Off for some much needed coffee.

message 87: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Hi Jade! Welcome!

message 88: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Now that the gang's all here, I've posted a working/tracking spreadsheet in Post #8.

Everyone can do any of the tasks, but can only do each one one time throughout the entire challenge, so everyone has a column on the task tab and we can check/mark the ones that are used. Also, I sorted the tasks by type on one sheet to make it easier to see search.

Let me know if you have any questions. I think everyone will be able to edit - if not, let me know.

message 89: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Angie, I love the way you sorted the tasks. That makes things sooooo much easier!

The fact that our team is all here and checked in is fabulous. That bodes well for us.
Take the week to start searching your shelves for books that fit. tasks that you want to search for, tagged books that you want to try. Have fun with it.

I actually started looking through the genre tags that I linked above, and ordered a book that I didn't even know existed from one of my favorite authors. Out of print paperback on its way to me as we speak. An Infinite Summer, from the guy that wrote The Prestige. So, I found one for hallucinogenic already!

message 90: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Thanks, Jenny! I'm going to update tasks for Setting to be them in alphabetical order - I'm lazy and don't want to have to read through the whole list when I see where my books are set! Lol!

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Super excited to start planning. I honestly always feel this is my favorite part!

message 93: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I put my first book on the spreadsheet, and it is feeling lonely. Come join it!

message 94: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 07, 2020 10:16AM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments I am so not a planner! Lol!! I will however choose one letter and find a book for it....then I will just read for what we need.

I encourage everyone to pick one letter / book as we all have to read at least one book every round.

If you are a planner - pick a letter in the first word layout and then pick as many more as you want to read in the other word layouts. That will help us "non-planners" choose our books to complete the most words!

message 95: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) The sheet says view-only for me, so I can't add my books. I requested access.

message 96: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I tend to plan and then change my mind. But, I was excited about the hallucinogenic book, so I had to share.

message 97: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Celia wrote: "The sheet says view-only for me, so I can't add my books. I requested access."

Celia, did you try the one I linked here - Post #8 or the Official Team one in Post #2? The one I posted is showing "no sign-ins required", as long as you have a link to it.

message 98: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Yeah, I keep trying the link from post 8, but it still says view-only. It's the sheet with the tasks by type.

message 99: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Let me see what I've done....Lol!!

message 100: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Oh, I see what I did!!! I added that page after I created the file - so it was showing view only for everyone. That page probably wouldn't have mattered, since it is just to help us find things.....but, it's should not say view only now.
