Jenny | 8072 comments And, anyone who is interested in historical fiction, based on real life in Norway in the 1600s, complete with witch trials and fishing, The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave is really good!

Fixed :)

When a book with other 1000 editions the default is too short which is annoying

Jenny | 8072 comments OK team!
I am checking in with our halfway-into-round-three update.
We are currently sitting at 88 books claimed, and around 4000 points from claimed books (including BOM points and task points, etc).
For context, and those keeping track, round one-4400, round two-5300 points.

So, basically, well done with the kicking of the ass again, team!!!!

Celia, don't worry if you don't have time to read this week. I will read extra, and I am sure others will too.

If anyone wants to join Alissa and I in the reading of Girl, Woman, Other, there is a thread set up, and the book is really good so far. Unusual and good. (Link in message 752).

message 763: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) I will read more...I just checked out 3 E authors from the library....

message 764: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading All the Light We Cannot see which is a great but long and intense

message 765: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I keep meaning to read that one too, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I am supposed to be catching up on the house work but managed to finish another X book instead ;) should finish everything I have listed no the spreadsheet this week and possibly add a few smaller ones.

I finished The Visitors by Simon Sylvester The Shark Club by Ann Kidd Taylor this week both really good reads and worth adding to that never ending TBR list ;D

I am finishing up Endless Summer One Summer / Lessons Learned by Nora Roberts this weekend, I can always rely on Nora Roberts to put a smile on my face. Have a great weekend guys.

Cindy | 152 comments I’m trying to finish 3 books by the end of round three. Right now I’m reading into thin air and it’s a little slow going for me.

message 768: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I have a lot of books left to finish but I know that I'll get them down.

I had a hard time breathing when I read that book. Too sympathetic maybe. But, it is a good one.

message 770: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Anna, how goes the chipmunk audios for the Olympics?

message 771: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Hehehe well we had a new ac unit installed in our house yesterday. Long story but ours decided to kick the bucket Wednesday and it’s hot outside. So I was listening to one yesterday and put it on speaker because I was doing stuff while the people were there. Needless to say I realized really quick that I probably needed to find some headphones! I don’t think the installation guys would’ve appreciated my chipmunk romance book.

message 772: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Thank you for all the kind messages. Drove 7 hours to grandma’s Thursday and got back last night. It was hard to see her so frail and almost unresponsive, especially since she was literally up and about two days before. She has very aggressive liver cancer that’s too advanced to treat. I’m grateful my family was able to have a little more time with her. Anyway.

I’ll be able to do some more damage on the sheet this week. Probably not as much as I had so ambitiously planned, but I’m loving A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Idk how I managed to never read it before.

As hard as that must have been, I'm glad your family was able to have extra time with her together, especially during all the uncertainty these days.

I loved a Tree Grows in Brooklyn too - just read it last year - and not sure I hadn't read it before either!

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Long day in the car yesterday means two audiobooks with my daughter knocked out! Spreadsheet updated and everything should be good to go on my end. Starting to tackle Roots today.

Glad you and the family got to send some time with her. I have been there myself unfortunately and this precious time matters so much.

message 777: by Kate (new)

message 778: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Thank you, Kate! I used the major literary award task. :-)

message 779: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments I'm *hoping* to still get all my books this week! My mom and I will be driving some of my old furniture down to Kansas City to give to my older brother Monday/Tuesday (just a 'quick' trip down and back from MN), which means my progress will slow a bit. I added one book to the spreadsheet we'll be listening to together, but she listens at a slower (okay, a regular 1x speed :)) so the pacing will be different.

I think I'm on pace for my audiobooks I planned, I just need to get after my physical reads. I'll be aiming to get them all in as planned, but will let you know by Wednesday-ish my updated plan. I do enjoy having 'deadlines' again for some of my reading though, so I thrive off of this environment :)

Hope everyone had a good weekend of reading or other activities! Anyone reading anything spectacular??

message 780: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I just finished the second to last thing on my list for the weekend. All I have to do is take out the trash, and I can dive back into a non-audio book.
The good part of having people stay over is that I am forced (by me) to clean my house. That bad part is that I am forced to clean my house. I want a house cleaning service. Whine.

I am really enjoying Girl, Woman, Other. And, the KU series that I am on the third book of is very fun in a dystopian kind of silly way. Rebellion (The Resistance Trilogy #3) by K.A. Riley

I finished The Woman in White today while cleaning, cooking and baking, and I liked it, but I think it could have been about 200 pages shorter.

I went for a bike ride to the pub for drinks and lunch with my Hubby. We managed to get some sunshine today for the first time in weeks. It was our first trip out since the UK came out of lockdown, it was a very strange experience!

No spectacular reads at the moment although I am enjoying Wolf Hall (Thomas Cromwell, #1) by Hilary Mantel very much and it might just make it's way to being so.

Kelly (louloo) | 140 comments All books logged up to date hoping to fit in at least one more before the deadline.

message 783: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I added some more books. I'll have more finished tonight.

message 784: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments You guys are all doing great!
For those of you with Audible, they are starting a week long sale, and there are a lot of really good titles on the list. Just FYI.

I just grabbed Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff on Audible, so I can read it again before the HBO series starts on a couple weeks. I lent out my physical copy, and never got it back. Oh the tragedy of being a personal lending library.

message 785: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Once I get my books finished tonight, I know I have two left on the spreadsheet for the next 3 days but I'll also try to find an X book. I know we need that letter in a couple places. Cool, I'll have to go check that sale out. I'm currently listening to an audiobook working on computer stuff.

message 786: by Jade aka MrsTosh (last edited Jul 21, 2020 07:32AM) (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I managed to finish a couple of books today, 3 more on the sheet to read. Should finish Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia tonight. I have actually really enjoyed it more than I expected, it reminds me a little of The Mummy Or Rameses The Damned by Anne Rice .

message 787: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually listen to audiobooks on walks but this week it's been too hot.

My family has Amazon prime. Any idea where we can get consistently free audiobooks? I have one app but it seems to be mostly classics

message 788: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I'm not sure, but I did ask in a different thread to see if anyone knows of a site.

message 789: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I am told that the best place to get free audiobooks is your library, or you can try a site called Chirp.

message 790: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) If your library uses the Libby app, it’s great for free audiobooks. My county and the neighboring county have a deal, so I am a member of both libraries which makes for a broader selection and shorter wait time.

message 791: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I use my local library app called BorrowBox or Youtube lots of free ones on there.

message 792: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Yes, I was going to suggest Libby also. I listen to audiobooks from there all the time. I can't speed the books up as fast as audible but it's still a pretty good speed. I'm lucky that I live in a metropolitan area sandwiched between two states so I have access to 4 libraries and it has helped wonders, especially with the new releases or most popular books.

message 793: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments If you don't have an Iphone / Ipad, you can't use Libby. But most libraries have both Libby and Overdrive apps to use with either ebooks or audiobooks.

Borrowing books from the library for my kindle and for audios is the best thing since sliced bread. Lol!

Jenny | 8072 comments We have our Round 4 word!
ISLANDHOPPING
And, the genre tags are-
Ocean
Mermaid/man
Whale
Turtle
Underwater.

The spreadsheet will be up later, but if you want to start planning, feel free.

message 795: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Links to the tags are in message 5.

message 796: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments oh brilliant! I love a Mermaid story :)

message 797: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I like Island Hopping!

message 798: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I would like to be island hopping right now. Alas, I am at work instead.
But, no hard letters to find for us this round, so that's kind of nice.

message 799: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments I like this new word (so far at least lol)! I should be able to get everything I have listed on the spreadsheet finished. I swapped one physical book for an audiobook (same letter), so I just need to finish HP #4 tonight and Let's Talk About Love tonight and tomorrow.

message 800: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (louloo) | 140 comments Netgalley now has audio books. The site is advanced copied of books in exchange for reviews.
