Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I don’t leave until Saturday but I am on countdown for sure. Especially given the Oklahoma heat this week. Ugh.

Jenny | 8072 comments Happy Monday all!
I hope you all had enjoyable weekends, and are looking forward to the week.
I read several books over the weekend, and would prefer to just do that today as well. Ah, life.

Thanks for the great suggestions, just added them to my TBR and will search for them from library online after work (or when I get bored of working... lol). I'm excited, I love finding new prolific authors, because there is much to enjoy!

Have you or anyone else read the JD Robb Naked in Death (In Death #1) by J.D. Robb Naked in Death book's by her too? Seems like an interesting series and has been in my TBR for a while, but it's quite long lol.

I read the first book in the series, but I wasn't keen. Keep saying I will try the next one but there are other book I want to read more that get in the way, so I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Spin the Dawn (The Blood of Stars, #1) by Elizabeth Lim

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 787 comments I might read the second one, will see how easy it is to get ahold of.

message 711: by Celia (last edited Jul 13, 2020 09:42AM) (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Pachinko has been on my TBR for a while, so I’ll plan to finally read it now. See kids, sometimes procrastination does pay off.

I might read the other... I haven’t been in a YA mood recently :/

OK, now I need to know what kind of office feels the need to protect its workers from defenestration. I always thought it was the perfect surprise attack.

I always think of you when I (rarely) read that word too!!!!

re: Naked in Death (In Death #1) by J.D. Robb
I really like the In Death series by J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts. Its set in the future 2059, I think is when it starts out. The MC, Eve Dallas, is a police lieutenant and a little snarky. The male MC, Roarke is kind of yummy....Lol! Eve's sidekick is hilarious once you get to know her. I like the audios for these and they are fairly quick reads as well.

Pachinko seems like a historical family drama. That is just about the last type of book I am in the mood for right now, but I will probably read it too.

Are any of you volunteering for DQs for it?

bamaace83 | 965 comments I'm on the waitlist for both August books so I should get them. I'm working my way through The Sun Down Motel and should have that finished today. I'll go work on my answers to questions at some point today as long as work isn't too crazy. Y'all really need to read Dear Martin. I read it last month and it was really good. I'm also sitting over here looking at this weeks Olympic tasks and shaking my head. I was confident I could do 7 books in 7 days for Show Dressing and then boom the Decathlon appeared. I think the Olympic Gods are just waiting until someone goes off screaming in the wind. For reals! I may be pulling out my Harry Potter broom and holding on for dear life in the sky before this is over.

message 727: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Kelly wrote: "Does a beach count a as a geological feature?? 🤔"

Maybe? I would say shoreline or coast, yes. Beach, depending on the type of beach, could be man made, or made from wave or tide action, or erosion, etc. The formation of a shoreline or coast could be defended as geological processes. Beaches may form over geological time periods, but there are many possible processes that form them.

Damn!
What is the page count requirement for the Olympics challenge?
If you need a bunch of short books, go look at my shelves for Tower Teams. There will be a bunch there. Some of them were really good, (some), and most are on KU. I do rate everything, so it should be easy to sort through.

Cool! I will probably go have a look. I'm pretty sure that it's 100 pages because I had a book less than 160 over here and had to take it off because it didn't give us any points.

And, I was wrong!!!! I think I got an email with the wrong date on it. I have to wait an entire month for this. Frowny frowny face. Yes, I know I typed that out.

But, I did get a couple of new books from the bookstore that look good. So, life is still ok.

message 734: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Jenny, I totally just used your task lines for Watership Down. I'm planning on reading it this week. I went ahead and planned out all those Olympic books and just went for it with mostly 300-400 page books. I'll be listening to chipmunk speed audio books and reading every night but I'm telling myself that I can make this happen. It means that I will have more than my usual number books this 2 weeks but its all the Olympics fault. I think I'm just going to go ahead and add them to the spreadsheet and then I have to legit make it happen.

message 735: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Good luck to you!
You will be able to get it done.

And, if you decide to change the T character name from Toadflax to Thethuthinang, feel free. I was trying to name Watership characters in my head, and I got to twenty before I gave up and looked on line to see if there was one that started with I or O. I thought all of the letters would be covered with one book, but, alas, no. teehee

message 736: by [deleted user] (new)

could someone look to see if the wizard is missing from the spreadsheet for round 3 as I don't want to duplicate it?

This was one from last read that I believe would be moved over

message 737: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I looked on the official ss, and I did not see The Wizard. So, if it is not on the round three tab on the tracking spreadsheet, then it probably just got missed when unread stuff got moved over. Sorry about that.

Goldenhand was the only one I saw to be moved over from Round 2 to Round 3.

Jenny is correct - The Wizard wasn't turned in for Round 2 either.

You can update the Round 3 sheet with what you are reading - if you won't be reading Goldenhand, just delete it. And add the book or books that you will be reading.

Sorry for the mix up!!

likely finishing the other tonight

message 741: by [deleted user] (new)

Also can't link quite yet

message 742: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "i listened to the audiobook version default is 200 right?"

Default is whatever the top book edition is on the "all editions" list, unless the top one is a large print version.

Don't worry about linking. I clean that stuff up periodically. So does Angie, if she beats me to it.

message 743: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "i listened to the audiobook version default is 200 right?"

For an audio, the page count is from the default version in GR - usually the one listed first. I can verify the page counts for you. No worrys, if you can't link - I can link it when I verify too.

I just want to try abd make this easier for me. For me the first edition that shows up is the one in my list. I also know the edition currently on my shelf isn't the one I read. Just need to look through

Am I going insane or just the check mark seem a row below where it is supposed to be in my list?

Nope, you're just insane. Or, since it looks like both Angie and I are playing with the spreadsheet right now, then one of us temporarily put a check mark in the wrong box.

It's fine now...or is it? bwahaha

Jenny | 8072 comments Letitia, your book Rise is not on your Wheel shelf yet.
Kate, your book A Lesson Before Dying is not on your wheel shelf yet, and you need to assign a task. I found a few that would work for it.
