Yes it is a lot of book! I have just been reading a few chapters every night.

Summer hasn’t started in Oregon either. We had to make a fire in our wood stove on July 4. *rolls eyes* Been mostly overcast for almost a week. Usually I don’t suffer from seasonal depression, but this weather in the middle of what should be summer is just a bummer. Ok, done complaining.

Maybe everyone already knows this, but if you’re viewing the spreadsheet on a computer you can use ctrl/cmd-f to bring up a search box, then type your name, and use the arrow buttons (on the search box) to cycle through all your entries. That way it doesn’t matter if things get shifted around, you can still find your books. If ppl want instructions for doing the same thing on iPhone, let me know.

I know exactly what you mean, usually doesn't bother me either but with everything going on in the world at the moment it is depressing. I was lucky enough I guess to be working from home in May when we have a mini heatwave.

Jenny | 8072 comments We have our third round word and tags. We need to spell out
OVERNIGHTEXPRESS.
Our tags are linked in the usual place, and are-
Spring
Bloom
Renaissance
Nature
Fairy/Fae

The spreadsheet isn't up yet, but Angie or I will get to it soon.

message 605: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Thank you, Jenny!

For "fairy/fae" does that mean either of those words as the tag or both together in the same tag? Seems like it would mean either, but the link is to both, so thought I'd confirm.

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Spreadsheet updated for Round 3

I checked the other teams that had gotten these tags and they used Fairy-Fae. So that is how the link is in the spreadsheet.

message 609: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I was just looking at the Bloom tag pages. What the hell do any of these books have to do with Bloom? I found a bunch I can use, but Bloom? Really?

I think we should start a new project with our team. Let's just come up with the most obscure shelves to put all of our books on. I have a few pages left in one book that has the word "wheels" in it several times. Also "rabbit" and "panda" and "ouija". None of these words describe the book in any way, but why not confuse future readers?

Jenny | 8072 comments I just looked at our tags pages, and even though I don't understand why many of these books are under certain tags, I found a bunch that are on my TBR list, and a bunch that are bloody brilliant that I have read. So, if anyone is looking for book ideas, here are some more recommendations.

Renaissance-
The Flanders Panel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte Lent by Jo Walton The Daughter of Time (Inspector Alan Grant, #5) by Josephine Tey

Nature-
Watership Down (Watership Down, #1) by Richard Adams Your Inner Fish A Journey Into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body by Neil Shubin Annihilation (Southern Reach, #1) by Jeff VanderMeer The Greatest Show on Earth The Evidence for Evolution by Richard Dawkins The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson

Spring-
Circe by Madeline Miller Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1) by Laini Taylor The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth, #1) by N.K. Jemisin A List of Cages by Robin Roe The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister

Bloom-

That "X" is going to be tricky. Anyone have any good recommendations? I found some GR lists but all titles looked quite obscure on the list I found, so I could have just found an odd list. I feel maybe the true challenge will be if my library has access to some of the "X" titles instead of finding titles, characters or authors with the letter. Hmmmm. Time to start planning.

I finished 2 more books today. Waiting for Tom Hanks was adorable and made me smile while reading many times. Just the light-hearted book I needed today while doing a lot of tedious paperwork sorting at work.

Jenny | 8072 comments Cozy mystery fan? The Diana Xarissa Isle of Man series. Free on KU.
Arrivals and Arrests (Isle of Man Ghostly #1) by Diana Xarissa

Fantasy? Piers Anthony Xanth series.
A Spell for Chameleon (Xanth, #1) by Piers Anthony

Tons of audiobooks read by Xe Sands.

Ancient war stories? Xenophon.
The Persian Expedition by Xenophon

There also look to be a bunch of books with Xander as an author or title on Kindle.

Sorry if I missed the answer to my message but I can’t see it recorded on the SS and and can’t work out where to add it??

message 620: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I don't remember seeing this, thus the lack of answer. Sorry. If you are thinking that the Y character would count for a difficult letter, it won't since we didn't have a Y in our spell-out word. We don't get any extra points for the difficult letters, and we have no control over the spin of the Wheel that determines the letters. It's kind of a bragging rights thing. Hard letters are automatically recorded on the official sheet somewhere anyway.

If I misconstrued why you wanted to note the Y character, then let me know.

Celia (cealcrest) I have one X book that I false started over a year ago that I will plow through next round.

For any Ender’s game fans, it’s the third book Xenocide (Ender's Saga, #3) by Orson Scott Card

I won’t make any promises about it being a good book. It’s merely in a series that I have some interest in finishing.

Thanks for the heads up on Xe Sands, Jenny! I’ll be listening to her read this next round: The Romanov Sisters: The Lost Lives of the Daughters of Nicholas and Alexandra

Thanks for researching the fairy/fae tag, Angie!

That was the name I was thinking would pop up easier in books than a title! I'll definitely search around that genre to get at least one read this next read to contribute one X to the list. :)

That's true too. Those darn vowels are hard too.

I found Sue Grafton's novels (which I seem to always forget about), that are just titled letter of the alphabet. My library had V is for Vengeance (Kinsey Millhone, #22) by Sue Grafton and X (Kinsey Millhone, #24) by Sue Grafton so I added those for planning. Hoping as I read more of some other cozy mysteries I already have checked out this weekend some characters pop out that fit the letters, since the title, Author and MC do not fit.

Just stopping by to get some book recs for my team and saw this - I'm outside Crater Lake and it's still frosting every night here. We actually had snow in the park last week. It gets down to 28 degrees in my hoop house and my poor tomatoes are not doing well. But it 80 degrees and sunny right now. Come on, Oregon. Give me enough summer to get my garden to grow!

Cindy | 152 comments I have a question and it may be a dumb question lol but I just finished a book and I’m not sure if I can count it or not. It’s a book that I previously started in March but couldn’t get into at the time and this actually happened another time after that, but I restarted over on the 4th and I finished it today but it says read from 3-1-20 to today and now idk if I can count it??

message 637: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments If you started it over, just change the start date on the edit feature.

There are a couple of books on my "currently reading" list that I got about three pages into before being distracted by some other shiny object. I keep meaning to change the status back to "want to read', but, one more thing, you know?

message 638: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Hey all!
We have just under two days to the end of this round. There are a few of you who need to choose tasks for completed books yet. I did put some suggestions on a few of them that I got from cover art or MPG tags. Use them or don't, but we will just assign a random fitting task if you don't choose yourselves. (Evil laugh).

We have about a dozen or so books that have been claimed on the spreadsheet, (yes I know that three of them are mine), so, if you are sure you will not finish in time, go ahead and take it off the sheet. Also, feel free to add any new books you plan on slipping in at the last minute to the sheet!

If you have been doing the BOM, make sure you have at least three participation days if you finish the book for this round.

It looks as though we are going to outpace last round. I must say that I am not at all shocked. This team is pretty damned impressive.

As ever, I personally want to know if there is any book read this round that is a must read for others. Or, just for me. Either works!

I have decided to be a nudge (is that how you spell nudge? It needs an accent). I listed some books that I love in message 611 that work for the new tags, and I just grabbed A List of Cages off my shelf for a potential reread. If you want your heart squished, and then made to soar, read this book. Seriously. Grab the tissues, gird yourself for a wild emotional ride, and pick up this book.

OK, I will leave you alone now.

Or not. Have any of you read The Summer that Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel ? OK, read this one too. Now.

Off to read now. I will stop telling you all how to use your valuable reading time...for now. teehee

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Adding one more comment to Jenny's note about books read - if you have completed anybook during this round that you started from June 12 or later and you didn't think it would work for this round, please list it on the spreadsheet somewhere and add it to your Wheels shelf - we'll find somewhere to make it fit! (another evil laugh!)

11/22/63 by Stephen King is a great read for any of you who haven't read it as yet. I know Angie has finished it and someone else was trying to get ahold of a copy. I have about 30% to go....I heart Stephen King!
