Jenny | 8072 comments Letitia, can you put your last book on your Wheel shelf please?

Thank you!

message 452: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments The books that are listed on Round 1 of the spreadsheet and not finished yet are...
Kate- The Fifth Season, and In the Time of the Butterflies
Celia- Echo, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Cindy- The Nightingale
Jenny- The Winter Prince.

I think I will be done with mine in time, anyone else?
Remember, if you can't or don't want to finish by 3 pm Eastern Time today, no problem! The books will work for next round as well!!!

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Just marked the spreadsheet and updated on my shelves! I finished In the Time of Butterflies last night and finished (might have been reading during a staff call this morning on Zoom......) the Fifth Season.

message 457: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Lol, there is nothing wrong with reading during a zoom meeting. I may have been doing the same thing yesterday afternoon.

Only a problem if you get caught (which I didn't!) :)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Lol!! It's so good to know I'm not the only one who reads during meetings!!

message 460: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I’ll finish Echo next round, but I’m polishing off Ballad rn. :)

It's always hard knowing/remembering whats on Libby from my library, especially as I scroll aimlessly or in search of something else, so those tags have helped a lot. They are finicky to use sometimes, but it's nice for challenges to have a list of books I know are at my library to scroll through instead of working to locate a certain book.

I love learning how others organize their reading lives too! Your GR list with only one author is a great idea. If there is a series you like or an author with multiple books do you add a new book by them to your TBR once you have read the one on the list?

message 462: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I linked to a Youtube stream of the Globe's Midsummer Night's Dream earlier, which was brilliant. So, when National Theatre Live released their version, I didn't think it could possibly be as good.
Boy was I wrong!

Jenny | 8072 comments I am not going to finish the last book of mine until the next round, as I keep getting interrupted, darn it. I will take it off the spreadsheet.

message 464: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments I watched the one you posted eariler, Jenny. It was great. I'll have to watch the new one later today!! Thanks!!

message 465: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments My lovelies, I am attempting to write a formula that will automatically mark the task as used in our lists for Round 2. Cross your fingers. LOL!!

You have been such wonderful readers this round that there isn't much for me to tinker with today! :-D

message 466: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Those darn interruptions....don't they know that we are trying hard to not do real work and read all the stories. That's why I didn't even attempt to start a book last night. I had this feeling that I better tell myself Thursday midnight deadline because sometimes work/real-life be crazy on Friday's.

message 467: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments PLEASE - no one should feel bad if they don't finish any more books this round!! We finished 9 spell-outs and even have a few stray books on the next one! That's AMAZING!!!!! Great teamwork!!

message 468: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Yes, yes, yes!!!!
We did really well this round. I am very happy with all of us. We are wonderful. I would pat you all on the back, but you know, social distancing and all. teehee

message 469: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) HOLY COWS. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was so much better than I expected. First 5 star read of the challenge. Oh man, I'm on such a reader's high right now.... They better make a movie of that. It will be a killerrrrr.

message 470: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Celia - thank you! I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it, but now I will. That's a hight recommedation!

message 471: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I changed around some tasks on the tracking sheet round 1 sheet about a week ago. I just made sure they matched the tasks sheet and some did not, so Angie and Jenny, Idk if you need to make changes on the main spreadsheet. Sorry. Seems like a lot to manage... Thank you!!

message 472: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments No worries, Celia! I am double checking everything and will make any needed changes. Thanks for letting us know!

Yes, when I finish a book I go to the author's page and check to see if I'm interested in any others. It's especially easy if the book was part of a series because I just add the next one to my TBR. (I *cannot* read a series out of order haha) If I didn't limit my TBR... it would be like 6000 books instead of ~1100.

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments All books added to the Official Team Spreadsheet. Excellent job all!!

Official LAST CALL! Does anyone have anything they haven't added?

We are checked in!! 34 minutes until Round 2 begins!

message 475: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments It looks like we did an awesome job! It will be interesting to see how we stack up.

message 476: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments If we had books on Round 1 that weren't completed, I moved them to the 3rd spell-out in Round 2. If you don't want to read those books this round, delete them.

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments Great work team! I had fun this round and can’t wait to continue cruising through some books in the next round. I definitely needed this type of challenge to ward off what was feeling like an impending reading slump - and so far it’s worked wonderfully!

message 480: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (louloo) | 140 comments Hello round 2 😊

message 481: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Happy Saturday team!!!!!

We ended the round with 4419 points, which puts us squarely in the middle of the pack, or seventh place. The top points earner was Murder on the Orient Express, with 5118. They are the only ones who broke 5000 points. So, well done, and now we know how we stack up. The competitors on this team take note; If we want to end up with the prize, we needs must read more, and longer books.

I plan to read (listen to) a couple of really long ones at work this round, because, why not?

Seriously all, without trying anything extraordinary, and just being ourselves, we did really really well.

Now, we find out if this group of lovelies has a killer instinct!

message 482: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I will figure out a long audio book that I can listen to at work that will help with points - if its something I can listen to but read already then I can probably get two of them done. I have to slow down at work if I'm really trying to follow a plot point.

message 483: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I tend to listen to books I have already read at work as well. Unless it is a slow day, and then I can concentrate on the new. I just got The Shining on audio, so creepy good here I come!

message 484: by [deleted user] (new)

I just added two books to the spreadsheet once I figure out page count I'll be good. Not sure yet how to discern for an audiobook

message 485: by [deleted user] (new)

Apologies if I'm making more work. I took a picture to prove the existence of the audiobook however I don't know how to share the picture on here. In addition it only shows two kindle options for it both without a page count

message 486: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I'll find some bigger books to throw in the mix. I know people read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes last week. What character fits in the words this time? I'm planning on knocking that one out on audio this week.

message 487: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Slytherpuff, I am on my phone, but when I get to my computer, I will help with the audio.

message 488: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Slytherpuff - the Kindle version has 493 pages, same ISBN #. I had a librarian add the page count to GR and I added it to the worksheet.

There is Dr. Gaul and Tigris (don't know any other characters) or there is H from Series name.

message 491: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I didn't even think of series name. I'll slip it in there for now and mark the other two things as options. Thanks!!! I'm having to do some juggling over here because the Olympics are causing me issues.

message 492: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you! Is it allowed to use an edition you didn't read?

message 493: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments I’m on my phone so I can’t link, but I’ve got Obsidio (615 pages) up next and am on On The Come Up (464 pages) currently but I think the rest I have planned are average length (300-400 pages). Although I’m working through Harry Potter again for my yearly re-read once I make it past #3, those are decent page counts! Great work on round 1!

message 494: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "Thank you! Is it allowed to use an edition you didn't read?"

For an audio version, the page count from the default edition is used.

I will get the audio version added for you to tag.

Jenny | 8072 comments Hey guys!
Sorry I have been a bit absent for the past few days. I have a guest over, and I have been reminding myself what it means to be social, whilst practicing social distancing. Weird, but fun.

We did so well in the first round. What I would love is for everyone who read a really good book, worth sharing with the crowd, to feel free to recommend it to the rest of us. Or, the opposite! If you read something that was just a no, share that too please!

I plan to read the new Hunger Games book now, based on Celia's review. I had not planned to read it before that. So, my mind was changed.

I would recommend The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett and An Infinite Summer by Christopher Priest . The second one might be a bit hard to find, it is a Christopher Priest book that I didn't even know existed. This is the guy that wrote The Prestige by Christopher Priest , and all of his books are different from one another. Crazy talented author.

Happy Sunday all!

message 496: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments I also have the new Hunger Games book ready to go on audible for this week. Hmmm, I think the two books that I read over the past couple weeks would be:

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours, #1) by Cassandra Clare

I love these books. This is the first one in the newest series and it starts to show more of the beloved families we know from City of Bones and Clockwork Angel. I gave it a 5 and it was really good.

Just Mercy A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson

I read this book because it was highly recommended to me from people in real life. Growing up in Alabama, I know all too well about times where racism was present but never truly experienced it myself. My dad can tell stories on stories though. Given everything that has happened over the past month in USA, this book was a great read just to shed more light on how things should not be. I gave it a 5 also.

I actually didn't like Dear Girls Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, & Advice for Living Your Best Life by Ali Wong . I know it has a pretty good rating on Goodreads and it won a GCA, I just had a terrible time getting into it and was over the story pretty quickly. I did finish it though.

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) Round two has started correct? My days seem to be running into each other so I want to make sure.

message 498: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Yes, it has. Read away!

message 499: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments On the "blah" end from the first round were The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves and Swing by Kwame Alexander . The Girl He Used to Know was a contemporary romance of sorts, which should have clued me in that it may not be for me. However, the MC (with first person narration) is an adult on the autism spectrum, so I wanted to give it a shot since I'm always looking for great neurodiversity and disability representation in literature. As for Swing, it just seemed like a lot of nothing happened in the majority of the book and ended fairly abruptly right as something happened. It's got decent reviews, with some feeling my same way. It's told in verse, which could contribute to the choppiness I felt in the story.

As for what I loved, my re-read of Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman was immensely enjoyable. I love the Illuminae Files series. I also started a few new cozy mystery series (one of my favorite genres) like Assaulted Caramel (Amish Candy Shop Mystery, #1) by Amanda Flower and Cloche and Dagger (Hat Shop Mystery, #1) by Jenn McKinlay that were great first books and I will be continuing with the series. My re-read of Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott for the BOM was also fantastic. I love that book and movie with all my heart.
