Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Eni last Saturday:you can't spend your entire week off reading.

Me: I was planning on sleeping too

Eni: seriously, you can't.

3 books later...

It's 35 degrees outside... Too hot to do anything.

*shades and curtains on*
*kid watching TV with toys all around her*
*air vent on*

Okay... Let's sprawl in bed with my kindle. Awwwwwww bliss

Hehe... What's wrong with reading all week?

I'm seriously considering taking a week's break in a remote location, by myself, no electronic devices, just me and a stack of books when the travel thing becomes an option again.

Only problem with doing that is that I may not want to go home again! :D

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments We have some errands and stuff to take care of.

Just not today. Is so darn hot outside.

I finished Blaze. I think it's my favorite so far. Loved the mystery. The Jagger ordeal was too stretched out to make for the 4 books. This one, being independent was quite good.

Can't wait for the next one. But, according to my timeline, I think I need to add another one from ward security first.

Of course, I promised the kid I'd be around, so I might have to grab an audio instead and set some colouring supplies on the table.

Good thing I decided to try audible escape for this challenge too :)

Any arguments against me using the two rings as circles on the cover?

Well... I have to hide in my room... I was downstairs coloring with the kid and a book on my ears but my stepdad can't look at facebook posts without commenting... or wanting us to look at it... because there's nothing he enjoys more than to share what he thinks it's funny.

So I used the ask the minion if she's hungry excuse, and proceed to disappear upstairs after feeding her. I am planning not to return for the next hour. By then he'll probably be outside watering trees and vegetables. LOL

LOL

Btw, the third book of the Ward Security series takes place after Blaze.

Not that they need to be read at the same time... apart from minor references or some cameos - it is Rowe's company after all - nothing major happens. It's even less spoilerish than reading the series, and not the short stories in between (which are not mandatory, just fun to read)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments ARGH! Just been without internet for 24 hours. *Waits for cold sweats and twitching to stop* Why do they do this to me when there's a challenge on? Jeesh!

On the plus side, the book I'm currently reading mentions Morris dancers! Woohoo! ( The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry )

Hope everyone is getting on ok with their books? I just finished my Bond book, which was awesome, but not recommended for anyone that can't handle old-fashioned ideas about women ;)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Goooood evening ladies and gents! we've just crossed the border from Canada into the United States, but because there is so very much to see here, I'll be pointing out the sights in certain individual states as we go along.

We're starting in the North East, in the region known as New England. There are six states in that region, including Maine, which is known for being the setting of almost every one of Stephen King's books. It sounds like a terrifying place! lol.

Our first stop is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (to use its official name), the capital of which is Boston. There's some lovely sights to see in Boston...

description

description

Also in Massachusetts is the city of Cambridge, best known as being the home of Harvard university. Chances are you'll meet some smart people around there, as well as have something nice to look at...

That's it for Massachusetts tune in in a couple of days for our next New England destination...

Sorry about the internet. SO hard when it is down.
Way to go on the Morris Dancers. I was happily surprised when I came across them in Green Darkness.

...and yes those Bond books by Ian Fleming can be a bit hard to stomach with the sexist attitudes of the times and the characters.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hello team!

So yesterday one of the people managements called about a new project... all fine and dandy, but he was asking because the potential client wanted an interview with me. I *HATE* this part of being a consultant. Hate it with a passion.

But,it's part of the process... just because I load interview doesn't mean I can skip them.

Of course it ruined my ability of doing anything else during the day, even sleep.

I ended up reading TWO BOOKS yesterday. And managed to stay awake till 4 in the morning.

I am totally toasted today... good thing that 1)I am off work and 2)It's an online interview and even better 3)It's scheduled to 6 PM, meaning, I can sneak a power nap if needed.

Anyway, I am annoyed at Fracture. As a software tester and a math major, I tend to get stuck into little details. And I am annoyed that little detail was never referred till it gets thrown at our faces in gory detail. I understand it was for major impact. I would also accepted if it was with any other of the fantastic four. But, being it a Snow and Jude book, it is gnawing at me that it was not mentioned before.

message 1018: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Bleh, interviews are horrible! hope you got through it ok.

And yay! for reading lots. I managed a fair chunk today, and tomorrow should hopefully be pretty good too :)

No spoilers besides qhat is on the sinopses. Jude's brother is attacked and they try to find out why. And yes, they come out of it okay.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Good evening ladies and Gents! continuing our tour of New England, we find ourselves in Connecticut today. Conneticut is a coastal state, and it is also home to the second hand book shop I'd most love to visit... The book barn

There are other things to look at in Connecticut besides books, of course.

description

It is convenient that this state provides such big, strong men. after all, books weigh a lot, and we may need help carrying them all back to the train ;)

message 1027: by Suzy (new)

Suzy Kennedy done Uglies

I'm reading a lpt of dystopias back to back and I'm getting into this uncanny valley where lots of the 'downfall of humanity' event that are happening in the books are starting to happen now....

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Surprisingly I'm getting some audios done while transferring to the spreadsheet which I thought was due this week but I'm ahead of myself. This is what happens when family is too busy chatting but the surprise is that it is nearing 1am and the family is in their rooms even hubby so I can get something done. Yay! hmm, but not sure why I was just about to pull my hair out thinking that this week was check in time. So I'll finished my Q&A of the BOM since I've finished the book :)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Fantastic! There are f*@#ing ants in my living room. And I mean a LOT of them.

I would scream with the frustration of "one effing thing after another", but I don't want to worry the neighbours :D

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Ants?!

Isn't it pepermint oil they don't like? I have forgotten. And other bugs clove or something.
Ugh! Brain.....not.............working, 😣😖

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I finished the unbreakable bonds series. I'm not prepared to say goodbye to the fantastic four. And it ended so sweetly, I'm pretty sure that's it.

Sure, I still have one book left on the ward security spin off but it isn't the same thing.

I also have to update the spreadsheet.... My last couple of books are not there yet

Tomorrow... It's 1 AM here

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments So hard when an enjoyable series comes to an end.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So true
So, I finally caved in and bought an inflated pool.

Now I'm under a tree shadow while it slowly fills with water.

And dealing with a 7 y.o. excitement... Which is the harder part

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments We have some powder to try spread around, and I wiped down the area they were with vinegar to hide their scent trail. I'm also reasonably sure my vacuum cleaner will be walking off by itself soon, as it has about 700 or so of the little blighters inside it, lol!

We used to have a pool too. Unfortunately we could only use it three times a year, living in Leeds and all. 3 days of summer is all we get! :D

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Good evening ladies and gents. Today we find ourselves in the Middle Atlantic region, where our first stop will be New York!

Naturally there are sights to see in New York (New York city in particular) that are instantly recognised the world over. There are bound to be very few people that have never seen a picture of the Statue of Liberty, for example.

Let's see how many other famous landmarks you can all spot on our tour of new york!

Yea, peppermint is one of the things they don't like. Cinnamon is supposed to be the best natural deterrent.

message 1047: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments Or.... my husband doused the floor where they were coming in with a cleaner, household safe one but it just was swimming in water and contains tea tree oil.

They disappeared. Of course he just lets it's dry to deter them while they move along elsewhere.

Today I was trying to mop that area of the floor and sorta gave up suds city. It just kept making soapy mess because the tile ended up with a layer on it. Who knows how many washes it will take me to actually get rid of all the soap residue.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I did that too but gave up and bought those little ant traps and it actually worked. I haven't seen any more since then so I tend to do it when Spring season comes. I'm glad the dog doesn't care to even go near it
