I did find poison tag for Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder it was just slow finding it because the quick find didn't want to work for me but thanks for the links.

Yes, the whole Study series is tagged, and I think most of the spin-off Glass books also. I also think I found her healer books also tagged poison.
Book #1, Poison Study is on the third page tagged by 28 people.
They are a back up for me, always willing to do another re-read of them. ;-)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Carmen, do you need to know where the books are tagged for those? Or how many times?

(view spoiler)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments The Vine Witch has "Poisons" as a tag.

I wasn't overly impressed with book 1 which I read a while back. But it is on KU with Audio if anybody interested.

I just was doing Book 2 for another challenge but it isn't tagged with poison. :(

Suzy Kennedy if anyones looking for a tagged book I highly recommend
Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

The entire sires os funny, filled with smexy warewolves, humerous sarcasm, LGTBQ chatacters, sassy vampires and was a great read.

There are 2 other series in the universe too with cameos from OG characters, so If you like it theres lots more reading

I thought it'd be tagged umbrella but its a parasol... BUT it is tagged poison

I've read two of the other series, but really not a fan! (Prudence and Imprudence)
Every other page was describing what people were wearing. Drove me nutty and made me want to throw the book against the wall (oh the things we read for challenges! lol).
Does that series have similar issues, or does she keep a lid on it? I loved the idea of the books, but just couldn't take the constant obsessing with clothes! If not, I may tentatively try one at some point... :)

Sammy, makes me sad you are "not really a fan" but you might like the original Parasol Protectoriate or the Finishing School better. If you are not into YA, then I would say Parasol would be better.
I do not remember that aspect of those books however by the time they were published I had read all the others so knew the world and it may have just been superfluous info to me, but then the more I think about it I know the author is a bit into that aspect of the time, and it fits with these characters and a few others thru out the world she built.

You are forgetting the newer ones about the Finishing school students as adults, she is still working on, and the ones with some of the Pack at different times she also has in-progress.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I place a book in the planner on but it can work for a few letters so I may change it. LOL

I will keep my eyes open for them and if I come across a cheap copy I'll give it a whirl. But not during a challenge, so I can run away and abandon it if she tries to make me sit through endless dress descriptions, lol.

(I'm not really into clothes or shoes. I'm a jeans, t-shirt and boots kinda girl. On the plus side, it means I have more closet space than most :D )

So frustrating when tech misbehaves! fingers crossed the new one arrives promptly and good to go.

(I will not relate at this moment my nightmare getting my washing machine replaced earlier this year. No need to cause nightmares while you're waiting, lol.)

message 767: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Let's not talk nightmares... my sister went home at the beginning of the month to pick out the mail and discovered that 1)Our kitchen exhausting vent was on and she couldn't turn it off, and 2)Our fridge finally died - Sure, it was almost 30 y.o, but dang it!

So now, the house looks abandoned, with gas, water and light shut down.

*sigh*

On the bright side... I am now happily looking at refrigerators online... and see the size of the dent on my budget.

message 768: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12880 comments They always come in threes! I had to replace my oven and freezer at the same time, though I didn't have many issues with them (except they didn't take away the old oven like they were supposed to, so it's still sitting in my garden as we can't get rid of it because of lockdown!)

Finally finished Infinite Jest. Easily the most depressing book I've read in a long time. Even Life's That Way, heartbreaking as it was, was a more pleasant and uplifting read than IJ.
Don't get me wrong, it was extremely well written, but just SUCH a downer. could have dealt with that if it was 300 pages or so, but at over 1000 it was just Way. Too. Much.

message 769: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments oh right... I need to replace my stove & oven combo too. It's ancient and it's starting to get a bit corroded... since it's a gas one, better safe than sorry. The thing has survived a minor kitchen fire, so, I guess it has done its purpose.

Its not nearly as packed with what they are wearing. Don't get me wrong, its there, but I found its shorter and presented in a more sarcastic, funny way because the MC (Alexia) hates corsets and dressing up as it gets in the way of her spying and nefarious activities.

I actually recommend reading the parasol protectorate (PP) before continuing the custard protocol (CP) series. I'm shocked you weren't confused reading that series first. The MC, Prudence, is the daughter the of Alexia, the MC in the parasol protectorate. Theres a lot explained in the PP that bleeds into the CP that make it easier to follow.

Also I found there was a lot more fashion talk in PP because Prudence was raised by the very fashionable vampire, Lord Akeldama, who's purpose in life is to make sure people are dressed well so she cares about those things, where as her mother did not.

PP was my fav series in this universe because its more New adult than young adult. The characters are older, the banter between the MC and her love interest is EPIC!!! the relationships are realistic and they deal with real issues. Im pretty sure PP wa the first series writing and the others were written to bring in a younger audience.

My personal ranking is:
1-Parasol Protectorate- EPIC
2-Finishing schoo- younger audience and characters but still funny and endearing, just no hanky panky
3- the short stories collections that focus on the secondary characters (many who are LGTBQA :)
4-Custard protocol- funny and I like the continued building of the world with Alexias daughter who was an impossibility to be born (told in the PP), but disjointed and the shifting POV from one book to the other was weird.

I found it all pretty easy to follow, as both books summed up the need-to-know parts of the previous series quite thoroughly :)

I'll keep an eye out for the others. sounds like I'd get on much better with those :)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments I do not remember, and am too lazy to go look, but who is the spreadsheet guru?
Because I have noticed that "URU" in uluru on all of the entries, all the way down, is missing the formula for the page points. A few have been fixed manually, mainly those alrwady finished, but not all.
On my tablet that is all I can manage, fixing manually, and to be honest changing f80 to f82 in four or five spots is a pain. And also that lazy thing I mentioned before.
So, someone that can do it with a few left and right clicks please help. Thank you!

Totally agree, Akeldama as well as The Twins mother is why that series is so heavy on fashion.

Yeah, mine too. There's a whole new chapter of Ryder I haven't read yet!

Ryder is a new book Ilona Andrews is writing, it's going to be called Blood Heir, and it's on Julie's POV, 8 years after the last Kate Daniels.

They're releasing it on serial form, pretty much like the Inkeeper Series. Curious enough, it started as a pandemic snippet... just something to keep the fans sane, but it ended up turning into a book idea.

It follows the King of Fire snippet they did to show us life goes on when the series ended.

If someone is interested, here's the link

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12880 comments Good evening ladies and gentlemen. We are just arriving in Germany, just a little behind schedule. Apologies for the delay, there were some technical difficulties.

Now everyone knows Germany is the home of Bratwurst and Becks beer, but there are other things that also originated in Germany, which not everyone knows about...

For example, the automobile was invented in Germany by Karl Benz. it's hard to imagine the world without them now!

description

And Baron Karl von Drais invented another mode of transport... The bicycle!

description

And of course Johannes Gutenberg was responsible for the printing press. Without him, we wouldn't be here right now!

description

Are you surprised that any of these originated in Germany? I was!

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Was aware of the three inventions, and the first two do not surprise me, but was not aware the third originated in Germany, and I am not talking about Gutenberg and his printed Bible. Even if I am VERY thankful for him, as a reader, and lover of books.
