Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

So I was wondering... do you mind if I play word tetris with our planning spreadsheet? I don't want to step into anybody's toes, is just that 1) I love doing it and 2)It's killing me not..."
Lol! I was going to mess about with it later, but if you're bored... ;)

The really clever bit about Head On (and its pre..."
Pratchett rarely slips my mind, lol. Only reason I haven't reached for it already is that I read it pretty recently (part of the TT series chain! lol).
It would probably be Wil Wheaton for me. He's a very good narrator, and I find male voices are less likely to kick off a migraine than female ones (why can't we ever have female narrators with a deep, sultry voice? All the high-pitched screeching isn't good for my brain! LOL)

Thanks Sammy!
Dang, how I missed this :o)
LOL
Anyway, one spell completed, one almost done missing an E and one started with a V.
Some of the books can be arranged in case we need the hard letters, like Artemis Fowl that has a LOT of characters!

I know I will not be adding my tasks until near the end of the two weeks. It is all about strategy and based on the spreadsheet tabs I suspect others will be doing the same.
I don't want to jump and put one on something and decide that based on my two weeks I should put it here and not there. That set of tasks has to last you through so I have to hedge where I want to use up things now, and I don't want to use it on easy things and be stuck at the end with hard things.
Because as much as I like challenges I only have so much reading time and books need to fit other things so sometimes being forced into a corner doesn't make me happy because then I don't get as much mileage out of a book.

oh I get the strategic part, nothing against it, I was just commenting that, because I thought our results are great, and we didn't have all points accounted for yet.
I wish I could plan that way.. but if I have too many options, I tend to get lost, and since I am a serious mood reader, I prefer to mark one as used and that's it.
Specially because I'm also not a big reader, so, if I manage to complete 30-35 tasks, it's a really big improvement on my past months, and I personally thing my achievement is great.

Yeah, I could have put them all together...
*runs to fix it*"
It's ok, I think it just disappeared in the shuffle. I re-added it ;)

I don't mind assigning tasks as well, of course, if that would help.

Oopppps, sorry... I hope I didn't mess up any of the read ones...
I'm staying on my corner from now on...

You mean the cappies have to know exactly which one from the 200 X 13 have been used?
Yep, staying on my reading corner alright... maybe the kitties will share theirs with me...

I am keeping tabs because i don't want to use up all the easy ones this first two weeks and might see a tasks as I evaluate that I would think you know I'm probably not likely to read for that tasks again. So I'll use it instead of the MPG or series # for example.
Unless Sammy wants to take that on. I know this co-cappy would prefer not to take the decision for that out of your hands.
Moving books for letters usage is a different beast and I don't mind doing that shuffle.

After a bit of research, I found the missing ones:
198 - Read a book set in Australia
185 - Read a book set in Central America
Just thought I pointed it out, not that Central America is easy, but reading a lot of NR Walker books, Australia is one I can do.

I can add those to everyone's list tonight that has copies it over if someone doesn't do before I am able to.
i can't access google sheets from work, they block it and no way do i want to mess with that from my phone.

Ugh headaches that are nearing migraines are horrible. Ok so let me go back and see what I’ve missed on the chatter :)

I've had a migraine that's been steadily building for 3 days now, so I fully sympathise! Stoopid brain pain :(

Yeah! They are the worst. Happens to me and they suck, so I truely sympathize. 💙

Oh I do understand.
But as I am a visual person I tend to connect the images with the personality more than a name.
But I can and will adjust. 😉🙃

Oh, SO sorry to hear that. Hope it passes sooner than later. 💙

Thanks Alison. If it sticks to the usual pattern I'm about halfway through. Usually I have one for about 1 week out of the month (just before TotM). Before I was on the meds I have now, I basically had them every day for about 4 years, so as far as I'm concerned it's a huge improvement! lol.
It's why I got into audio books. for at least part of it, I can't use eyeballs to read, so audio works better, provided the voice isn't too shrill :)

Hold on! So, multiple people can read for the same task?
I mean, I understand that all of us have those 200 tasks - but I thought that at the end we have to pick only one book per task.
If that's not the case, then I can totally update my task list! No worries at all.

I get the TotM thing, I have some patterns related to that also. Hormones can do some crazy things.
Take care. 💙

Yep, everyone gets their own list of 200 tasks! so have at it! :)

Ladies and gentlemen, it appears we've gone a little off course, and we seem to be somewhere in Wales. The scenery, as you can see is very rugged and well-defined with sparse vegetation...

Who knew Wales had such attractive vistas?
And don't forget to wave to Cat as we pass through. Lucky her to have such lovely views during her stay here! ;)

*waves absent-mindely at Cat whilst appreciating the views*
I think we should stop for a bit... That we'll defined valleys need some visiting

LOL I see you already explained but since I was trying to cook and didn't see this. 😉

Sammy thanks for the visuals. I'm a big fan of Dracula 😉

As you were passing so close, and look to be heading Poldark-wards (I wonder if force of will helps direct the train?) I've joined you for a bit!
Don't worry, I've brought some refs from my fridge, gone retro with a battenburg cake...

It is probably the most awesome thing ever. :)

I hope you feel better, Carmen and Sammy! I'm useless with a mere headache, I can't even imagine.
And a quick question, dear captains - with BOM participation links, will a couple of them do, or do you want them all?

Thanks Elena.
Contrary to all laws of nature, listening to classic rock being played on bagpipes actually does make me feel better :D
If you're doing the questions in separate posts, we need 3 days worth of links. If you're like me (i.e. lazy) and do all the questions in one go, one link works, lol.

Don't forget to mark your books as read and add them to your wheel shelf when you're done with them please!
Muchas gracias.

So if you happened to have read a book set in Australia or Central American in the past week, that has been updated and is available to use.

Don't forget to mark your books as read and add them to your wheel shelf when you're done with them please!

Oops!
They are in the shelf, but I get lazy, doing reviews and stars, so stuff tends to stay in my currently-reading way too long.

No worries. As long as everything is updated before we need to move everything over and check in, it's all good :)
It's a common thing during the first round, lol.

Thanks, Sammy! Finished it!

I just saw your message, asking for sports books recs.
I have only one to make and that's wondrous in itself already, because this is definitely not my type of genre. :)
Anyway, here goes: Take Your Eye Off the Ball: How to Watch Football by Knowing Where to Look by Pat Kirwan.
I am from Hungary and apart from my husband being a fan of American Football, I knew next to nothing about it. Still, I found this book interesting and useful.
Pat Kirwan has an easy, entertaining style and never appears to be looking down on the reader from any heights of expertise. He is eager to share what he knows and why he loves the game.
