Erin | 7 comments I'd like to read some continuation's of Gaskell's story and how other writers might believe things turned out between John and Margaret?

Martha (marthas48) These are the 2 that I have read. I gave them both 3 stars, but I did like the first one better than the 2nd.
A Heart for Milton: A Tale from North and South by Trudy Brasure 3.5 stars
Margaret of the North by E. Journey 3 stars

Erin | 7 comments Thanks for the recommendations! I hope to read them asap.
I wish there was a lot more, though. I mean, Jane Austen has zillions of continuations etc but North and South doesn't....It irks me to no end.

Martha (marthas48) I hope you enjoy them. I'll let you know if I stumble across any others.

Erin | 7 comments Thank you! I'd really appreciate it!

Trudy Brasure | 59 comments Hi Erin. If you're looking for more of Margaret and John, there are a host of variations at C19.
We've a long way to go to catch up to the scores of Austen variations, but there have been some really talented writers out there who have written N&S fanfiction.

Here's a link about variations at the N&S Goodreads Group: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

And here is a blog post about a few of my favorite N&S sequels and variations: https://armitageauthors.wordpress.com...

Martha (marthas48) Thanks, Trudy! I was hoping you would weigh in on this. :-)

Erin | 7 comments Thanks, Trudy! Just finished A Heart For Milton! LOVED IT! Brilliant continuation! I'll be reading your other variation as soon as I can.

Trudy Brasure | 59 comments Thanks, Erin. Glad you enjoyed it! It's not always well received by those who think Margaret and John should be arguing all through their marriage.
I was surprised to find that there are basically two divergent interpretations of Gaskell's novel. I might not have discovered that if I hadn't published my version of their happily-ever-after.

Louisa | 11 comments Hi, I'm currently writing an N&S continuation. It's called Mistress of Marlborough and it's available on C19 (though in somewhat mixed up form, alas, as chapters are arranged by comment and NOT chronologically).

Volume I is posted (over 250 pages worth!), and I'm working on Volume II. If I can get through the copyright issues, I hope to publish Vol. I in ebook (or even paper) format. :)

loriBear | 13 comments Though I'm a bit biased, I can endorse Louisa's story! Been a fan since pretty close to when she started writing it.

And Louisa, darling, it's about time! I'm excited to hear that you are working on publishing! eBooks are a great way to start!

Ha ha, I'm in the Old Dogs, New Tricks category when it comes to publishing online. :)

Trudy Brasure | 59 comments So glad you're going to share your work with the wider world, Louisa. The era of self-publishing has definitely arrived. Your story will be a welcome addition to the growing line-up.

Thanks Trudy, I'm still afraid of the learning curve though!

Hi Erin, C19 is an online forum, and you have to register to use it. The link to my story is here. I hope it will work for you.

Ann | 1 comments Nowhere but North by Nicole Clarkson. It’s the only spinoff of the book I’ve read but I really enjoyed it!
